Splinterlands Challenge of the Week - A Standard Win with Electric Eels

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Electric Eels from the Water Splinter...

The Eels are a decent card at max level - for only 4 mana you get 4 damage (3 plus 1) with the blast, and decent speed and health too, meaning they can perform OK as a second tank.

The only downside is that Water tends to favour magic, so it's tempting to swap these out for yet another magic monster to benefit from the plus one summoner damage you get there.

Still, they are useful and useable as part of a diversified attack line up and this battle features The Eels in a fairly standard magic line up victory...

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap 36
  • Ranged in first (ignored!)

Summoner - Valnamor

  1. Lord A - What else?!?
  2. The Eels - the challenge card.
  3. Mermaid Healer - I love triage, and cleanse comes in handy too, and decent damage if you max her.
  4. The Ruler of the Seas - a decent attack card, best played with triage in case you get that double reflect combo
  5. Phantom of the Abyss - there ain't too many cards packing 5 magic damage - nice!
  6. The Crustacean - it's just the law when you play water, right? (I really MUST level this up to level 9 at some point!)

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - I take out my opponent's Haunted Spirit, thanks to my high powered and fast magic attacks.
  • Round 2 - I immediately take out the Pegasus (one of the best cards out there) - thanks mainly to the five magic attack from the Phantom, but the Eels finish him off. I lose my Lord A.
  • Round 3 - Eels now in tank position I take out his Fire Spitter early on quickly followed by his Tower Griffen (shields no more!)
  • Round 4 - it's all over - my opponent's final two monsters die pretty quickly!

How important were the Eels?

While they did take out one monster - the Pegasus in this particular battle one single shield buff was enough to render them largely insignificant compared to the high (and fast) magic damage - while the magic HURT, really HURT my opponent, for the most part the Eel's melee attack was rendered ineffective by my opponent's shields.

Final Thoughts: Eels - worth levelling up?

YES!

Even though they were not particularly stand-out in this battle, they held their own and still played a role, and proved to be reliable second tanks.

Moreover, they can be VERY effective when there are no shield defences.

This makes me think whether a good combo for water might be Eels with that magic snipe dude with rust and the sabre shark> one worth trying out in future!

I noticed from this challenge my Eels are only L6, they'd be better off at L7 and they are more DEFINITELY on the list of potential candidates to level up soon.

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

I love the insight and strategy details.

Looks like you have a lot of fun with this and it is profitable as well! I am stuck in summer/business building/MMO cycle right now and don't have the bandwidth to jump in on Splinterlands right now but do enjoy seeing the adventure.

I'm enjoying the profits more than the game TBH, the actual game can be very frustrating, but that's gaming for you I GUESS!
