Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Screaming Banshee against Kron the not Undying

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Screaming Banshee from the Death Splinter.

Death is one of my favourite Splinters, and the Banshee is a pretty unusual Death card for her lack of hexing power - rather this is a low mana damage card - with blast she effectively does 3 damage (at level 3 which my card is at) for only three mana, but her weakness is that very low health.

This battle features the Banshee in a low mana battle victory against the single 'Kron' with Last Stand, which was a pretty satisfying win I must say!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Summoner - Clarissa, or whatever her name is!
  • Mana - 13
  • Ranged and magic have snipe

  1. The Chicken - to soak up some damage
  2. The Skeleton - one of the few low mana cards with shield
  3. The spirit thingy - anticipating snipe
  4. Screaming banshee - a nice low mana damage card and you don't often get reflect in low mana battles
  5. Haunted Spectre - for the hex!
  6. Skeleton archer - Affliction to cut through the common use of heal in low mana battles (it worked!)

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - Kron goes last stand and takes out the Chicken, well, that's what he's there for! All my monsters besides the Chicken are able have a go at Kron - he ends the round on 12 health, after his Divine Shield is taken out. The crucial thing is that the archer's afflict sticks in this first round!
  • Round 2 - Kron takes out the Archer. All my remaining monsters have another go at Stand Alone Kron - he ends the round on 7 health.
  • Round 3 - Kron takes out the Spirit, all my my remaining monsters have another go at Kron, he ends the round on 2 health.
  • Round 4 - Kron takes out the Banshee, but he also dies, which is strange given his full name!

How important was The Banshee?

Well not particularly TBH, I was rather anticipating a fuller line up where her blast would have been more useful!

For this particular battle I think the treble tank was crucial, but the key to victory was the afflict from the archer.

Having said that the Banshee did provide a useful 2 damage for low mana along with the archer.

TBH I think my selection wasn't ideal against Kron - the hex from the spectre did nothing against Kron, Shatter did nothing, strengthen did nothing - really it was just having enough AFFLICT and then enough damage to kill of Kron before he got through the front ranks!

So not so much a screaming banshee victory, but a nice easy strategy to defeat the single Kron play!

Final Thoughts: Screaming Banshee - how to use most effectively

I think she's useful in low mana battles, where you don't tend to get too many people playing reflect (The Failed Summoner being a notable exception).

And if you max her out she becomes very powerful, picking up 3 damage as standard. If you did that and played her with the 5 mana dragon summoner too, she'd get 4 plus 2 damage. That option means she does double damage for her mana, I can't think of any other combination that does that!

But that means she's toast at level five if you come up against reflect!

However, if you play her in an equalizer rule set where the low health isn't a problem, that's a very useful damage card for the mana right there, possibly the most useful in the entire deck if played with that Dragon summoner!

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

Awesome.
I particularly enjoyed your Final Thoughts section.
It's great to see it all layed out like that. Quick, concise, useful. 💪
But to back up a bit... Kron IS Undying. In Splinterlands no monsters really die... their essence is summoned and then returned after battle, be it defeat or victory.
He is from long ago and has seen much in the Splinterlands.
Kron is awesome...I have a special place in my heart for him. It's like I know him.
I've said too much! 🤣 runs away
