Adelaide Hive Meet Up - February 2021

Gee, hasn't this year gone quickly?!

Thursday night was the monthly Adelaide Hive Meet Up for February.

Can you believe it's March already?!

It's held on the last Thursday of the month at The Jade pub. We normally meet in the beer garden if the weather is great.

Thankfully, the weather was indeed fantastic, the sky was light blue with a smattering of light white clouds.

The Jade

Upon arrival at the beer garden, I found there were people there, but not for our meeting. In fact, it was quite crowded.

I soon discovered @mattclarke and @ctrpch sitting at a small table near the main entrance.

I shook their hands in turn, a gesture slowly returning locally but now with some unease.

@mattclarke offered me an official Splinterlands cap he'd gotten for one of his sons. His son remembered that I wear a Rexxie cap from the original Steem Monsters days and thought that I would appreciate it more.

Now that's humility and generosity for you!
I gratefully accepted it. I think it will be a far easier marketing tool than the Rexxie cap that had become part of my image for the last few years.

I assured them that the larger tables free in the beer garden and we all moved and found somewhere there to sit.

@mattclarke had brought the now infamous Mallsballers November 2020 Predictions for us to marvel and cringe over. We were all wildly optimistic back then, long before the hardfork that lead to the creation of Hive.

A lot of things changed and no longer exist.

@mattclarke went off to the bar to get us some drinks and I ordered some food. He came back with can of Diet Coke and a glass that had the words "Share a Diet Coke with a Boofhead" on it. It's considered a very light, playful insult.

What I had ordered was a toasted ham and cheese sandwich and a meat pie with tomato sauce (ketchup).

Absolutely delicious. I ate them slowly while listening and discussing all things Hive related.

All Things Hive

What I love about these meetings is that you can put a face to the screen name. It makes things a bit more honest and personal.

What I also love is that everyone has different interests and focuses and they can bring those unique perspectives, literally to the table!

Things are often explained in simpler terms to so that you can get a grasp of what's going on without the high tech jargon.

Of course, the first topic that we mostly talk about is Splinterlands. Then it's often the third and fifth topic and so on!

This can revolve around our relative rankings within that particular season to which cards have increased in value and by how much.

Different cards and combinations will play out differently at different levels, depending on what ranking you are, and what
Individual match rules are.

The idea is to not rule out or under value any particular card based on their initial stats or current price on the market.
The prices can fluctuate wildly, and once they are out of print, that's it!

Someone could decide to corner the market in Creeping Ooze for example. A very common card, but it's out of print.

If @aggroed and @yabapmatt decided that Creeping Ooze was needed to burn as a lubricant for mining machines in buildings when lands are eventually active (speculation mine) the value of the card then increases drastically.

This is not financial advice, nor does it reflect Splinterlands' future developments.

But when we aren't talking about Splinterlands, we discuss the price of Hive (which is doing quite well, thank you) and the price of Bitcoin, etc.

@ctrpch likes to dabble in the crypto market and he talked about trading between Hive and Bitcoin.
He confessed to renting one of my summoners. That's always cool.

@mattclarke hodls his crypto and plays the long, patient game. But spoke about how some often overlooked cards my become valuable once people realise that new rule sets benefit their usage.

I eagerly took notes.

Hint: Vampires and Goblin Mechs.

Personally, I make micro investments on Hive-engine but I am mostly hodling my tokens.

We discussed things like NFT's and games like DCity and more.

All in all it was another successful meeting, and I can't wait for the next one.

Why not start up a local Hive meeting where you are?

Anyway, that's all from me in this particular post.

Until next time,

Have fun!

Always great to see you, mate. Every Winter I say I'll queue up a different venue before Winter, but I can't find anywhere better. Thinking caps on :)

Thankfully, I got a brand new Splinterlands cap to wear.
So, we'll see what happens.
