My Splinterlands Self Challenge #22 - Full Tilt At The End of Another Bronze Season

avatar

Welcome to another update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues with only the initial set of cards!… Plus, whatever I can earn or win. As of my last update, I was in the top 10 of the Bronze leader board. I managed to stay there for most of the season, but to start off let's take a look at the past week:

Daily Quest # 147 - Win 3 with No Neutral Monsters. For completing this daily quest, I received a Gold potion.

Daily Quest # 148 - Win 5 with Earth. For completing this daily quest, I got 5 Dark Energy Crystals (DEC). For most wins, I'm getting a bit over 10 DEC for comparison.

Daily Quest # 149 - Win 5 with Life. For finishing this daily quest, I got a 6th copy of the common Death monster card, Undead Rexx.

Daily Quest # 150 - Win 3 with no Neutral Monster. For completing this daily quest, I got a 7th copy of the common Death monster card, Phantasm.

Daily Quest # 151 - Win 5 with Earth. For finishing this daily quest, I got a Legendary potion. I also spent 2015 DEC to buy 3 copies of Wizard of Eastwood to level him up to level 2 for Untamed only tournaments.

Daily Quest # 152 - Win 5 with Water. For completing this daily quest, I got 8 DEC.

Daily Quest # 153 - Win 5 with Water. For finishing this daily quest, I got 13 DEC.

Daily Quest # 154 - Win 5 with Death. For completing this daily quest, I received a Gold potion.

Finally have all of the Untamed Summoner cards at level 2.

So a relatively quiet week, without winning anything outside of the game. I did also play in another six tournaments this past week: 2 Untamed Novice Kobold Mining tournaments, 2 Bronze Untamed set only with no legendary cards, and 2 community run Novice rule set tournaments with no legendary cards. I didn't do great in most of them, but I did get some cool temporary prizes from the community-run ones.

I started off doing well in the first Kobold Mining tournament, going 9-2 the first day. However, I had a poor day 2, finishing 12-6-2 and coming in 33rd place to win 50 DEC. I went 6-4-1 on the other Kobold Mining tournament, to not make day 2. I didn't make day 2 in either of the Bronze Untamed only tournaments, going 6-5 in one and 7-4 in the other. The 7-4 record was still good enough to finish in 56th place, for 100 DEC.

The community-run events had small DEC prizes, granted the regular tournaments kind of do now as well, but also featured winning delegations of cards. Splinterlands supports lending cards, and these tournaments had prizes where you would get loaned cards for a month. The first tournament was only one round, and I came in 7th place with a 9-2 records. I only won 5 DEC, but got delegated a legendary Earth monster, Oaken Behemoth.

The other community novice tournament had a large number of entries, but I made day 2 with a 9-2-2 record. I finished 14-7-4 to come in 23rd place winning 75 DEC and a delegation of a gold Earth monster card, Flesh Golem. Cards that you have been loaned also count towards your card power for leagues, so these two cards temporarily jumped me up a bit.

The season didn't end quite as well as I had hoped. In many ways, I was dumb and kept playing when I should have stopped. I was in 5th place, and only behind third by about 50 points, or about 20 wins. I lost a game, adding 13 to how many I would need to make it up.. then lost another one, falling back to 13th place and only getting 1 pack at the end of the season instead of the 3 I would have gotten by just sitting in 5th.

This is a little bit of an abbreviation of my last night of playing, I would win most of my points back, then lose again dropping slightly lower, win most of them back, then lose again. Matches were taking a long time to pair up, it was getting really late, and I was pretty upset at the game. Overall, it was a pretty bad experience and I got fairly tilted, to use a poker term.

The final standings for the season. I was at 2169 points before I started trying to get to 3rd.

My Bronze I season end rewards.

Since I am relatively close to having enough card power from delegations to qualify for Silver II, plus fairly unhappy with my final Bronze performance, I am thinking of once again spending the next season just playing for daily rewards in Silver. If I pick up a few of the cheapest legendary cards, I can likely push up over the 40,000 card power to get the 3 daily rewards in Silver II.

Right now I'm at about 36,600 with delegations, and since they'll go away after the next season it probably makes sense to take another break from the leader board grind. I did spend 116 DEC on 3 Legendary potions to open the one pack I won. Nothing too exciting, but at least it had more than one rare card!

One bright spot is that my guild members donated enough DEC to level the guild up to level 6, adding 2 more member spots. They got filled pretty quickly, but it also looks like some people may have stopped playing. Anyhow, that's it for this season. If you made it this far, thank you for reading, and if you have any questions, feedback, or suggestions on future updates then please let me know in the comments below!

This last season was tougher, needed a lot more ranking points, I just managed to get into the top 10.

Nice to see you around.
