My Splinterlands Self Challenge #27 – It's A Long Way To The Top If You Want To Freeroll

Welcome to another update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues with only the initial set of cards!… Plus, whatever I can earn or win. With the first season of March 2021 wrapping up, I finished up my two weeks of farming rewards in Silver II. Overall, it was a relatively quiet season playing the game, as I didn't qualify for Novice tournaments or have the cards to try to compete for the Silver leader board.

I'm thinking of staying in Bronze for the upcoming season, though I may regret that with how many games it usually entails. Still, I tend to do well in the Novice tournaments, at least when I pay attention while submitting matches. Anyhow, as usual, let's start off with a breakdown of the past week.

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 189 - Win 5 with Death. For completing this daily quest, I received 13 dark energy crystals (DEC) and 2 Legendary potions.

Daily Quest # 190 - Win 5 with Water. For completing this daily quest, I got a Legendary potion and 12 DEC (6 + 6).

Daily Quest # 191 - Win 5 with Fire. For completing this daily quest, I received 40 DEC (23 + 17) and a 9th copy of the rare Water monster, Kelp Initiate. I also went shopping, as I had accumulated about 8,000 DEC at this point. I picked up an Untamed pack, as the new Legendary summoner was about to happen.

While I didn't get a free copy of the new summoner, this was still a great pack with both a Legendary and gold card.

I spent a total of 810 DEC on 3 rare Death monster cards, Grim Reaper; 2 rare Water monster cards, Ice Pixie; and 4 common Death monster cards, Nightmare. This, in combination with the cards I already had, let me level them up to the 2nd level versions. I bought a level 3 common Life monster card, Silvershield Knight, for 920 DEC. I then spent 23 DEC on a common Life monster card, Baby Unicorn; 1353 DEC for 6 more rare Life monster cards, Shieldbearer; and 670 DEC on Silvershield Assassin - all to make level 3 copies of those cards.

I also found that I already had enough copies of Biceratops and Silvershield Sheriff to level them up to 2 as well.

Daily Quest # 192 - Win 5 with Earth. For completing this daily quest, I received 5 DEC; a 6th common Earth monster card, Nectar Queen, and a 6th copy of the rare Life monster card, Silvershield Sheriff.

Daily Quest # 193 - Win 5 with Fire. For finishing this daily quest, I got 5 DEC and 2 Gold potions.

Daily Quest # 194 - Win 5 with Death. For completing this daily quest, I received 1 Gold potion, 1 Legendary potion, and a 10th copy of the common Death monster card, Phantasm. I also won an auction for a rare Water monster card, Giant Squid, for 20 DEC.

Only my 2nd copy of this card. I really should get a few more to level it up.

Daily Quest # 195 - Win 5 with Fire. For finishing this daily quest, I received 23 DEC (10 + 13) and a Legendary potion.

Daily Quest # 196 - Win 3 with no Neutral. For finishing this last daily quest, I got a 10th copy of the common Death monster card, Undead Rexx, and two more copies of the common Water monster card, Demented Shark.

Tournaments:

Sunday Bronze Blunderbluss, no legendary cards, all sets allowed tournament: I went 8-3 on the first day, and finished up 16-6 to come in 14th place. This earned me 275 DEC.

Thursday Bronze Blunderbluss, Untamed set only, no legendary cards tournament: I went 9-2 on the first day, and finished up 18-4 to come in 8th place. This earned me another 500 DEC.

Friday BAT-sponsored Bronze rules, with Dice, Untamed, and reward cards allowed tournament: I went 8-5 the first day to not make day two.

Outside The Game:

I won 200 DEC from a giveaway by @drazeus on Peakd. Other than that, the big event this week was Dygcon, an online blockchain game convention primarily put on by the Splinterlands staff. There are going to be some giveaways following the event, but they have not happened yet at the time of this writing.

One Splinterlands related activity at the convention was a "beat the pros" tournament. Some higher league players got spammed with Bronze league challenges. I personally played against several of them, and managed to beat about half. For anyone interested, here are the fights:

I'm expecting to get various WAX NFT badges from the tournament, and there may be some Splinterlands prizes randomly given away as well. Anyhow, that was pretty much the week! Here's how I ended up at the end of the season:

My 47 win streak was from going from Bronze to Silver.

These were my 15 season end rewards from being in Silver II.

The big news is that at the start of this upcoming season, the game will be adding new "ghost" Beta cards for all players. Essentially you can play with a level 1 copy of any card from the Beta card set, though you can't sell or trade it. I hope that this helps give new players a better experience, as it should give them a lot more cards to mess around with when starting out.

That's about it for this update! As I said at the start, I'm thinking of doing the Bronze league for the last season in March. I'm at about 44,000 card power, and would need 70,000+ to get to the Silver I league.
