My Splinterlands Self Challenge #30 – Brawling With My Guild And Relaxing in Silver

avatar

Welcome to another update on my attempt to challenge the Splinterlands ranked leagues with only the initial set of cards!… Plus, whatever I can earn or win. Which, admittedly, has gotten a little bit murkier since I started trading around cards on Atomic Hub, using some of the WAX tokens I've gotten from Alien Worlds to buy and sell Splinterlands cards. I suppose I should add a trading section to these weekly reports at some point.

As noted in my last article, I am spending the first April season of ranked play in Splinterlands hanging out in the Silver league, getting three times the daily rewards of playing in the Bronze league. I don't expect that I have much chance of finishing in a high enough place to win any packs, but there's also a lot less stress when I am not trying to grind my way up through the rankings. The first Guild Brawl also just wrapped up, but I'll cover that after the usual weekly breakdown.

Daily Quest Rewards:

Daily Quest # 212 - Win 5 With Earth. I was a bit worried that I would end up getting Bronze league rewards for the first day, as there was a hiccup last time when I finished the quests before moving into the higher league. I played a bit over 50 games as the season got underway to make my way back up into Silver II once again. Fortunately, when I claimed the daily quest rewards, I got the three rewards for being in that league: 11 DEC, a Legendary potion, and a 16th copy of the common Fire monster card, Ant Miners.

Daily Quest # 213 - Win 5 With Life. For finishing this daily quest, I received a Gold potion and 38 Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), which was split between 29 DEC and 9 DEC.

Daily Quest # 214 - Win 3 With No Neutral Monsters. For completing this daily quest, I got 21 DEC; a 10th copy of the common Earth monster card, Barking Spider; and a 10th copy of the common Life monster card, Warrior of Peace. Outside of the game, I also won an Untamed pack from a Peakd trivia contest/giveaway by the Splinterlands community staff.

I bought 1 Legendary potion for 38 DEC and 3 Gold potions for 144 DEC 4 days later, and these were the contents of this pack.

Daily Quest # 215 - Win 5 With Fire. For completing this daily quest, I got 27 DEC (5 + 7 + 15). Outside of the game, I also picked up a 6th copy of the common Earth card, Goblin Dartling, at auction for a cheap 13 DEC.

Daily Quest # 216 - Win 5 With Life. For finishing this daily quest, I received a Legendary potion; a 17th copy of the common Water card, Wave Runner; and a 11th copy of the common Death card, Phantasm.

My reward cards for this week, in no particular order.

Daily Quest # 217 - Win 5 With Water. For finishing this daily quest, I got a Legendary potion and 48 DEC (38 + 10).

Daily Quest # 218 - Win 3 With No Neutral. For completing this daily quest, I received a Gold potion, a Legendary potion, and a 17th copy of Ant Miners. Outside of the game, I won auctions for a 3rd copy of the rare Life monster card, Truth Speaker, and a new rare Water monster card, Pirate Archer, for 14 DEC each.

My CardAuctionz.com wins from this week. The listings go up at random times, and are not always available.

Daily Quest # 219 - Win 3 With No Neutral. For finishing this daily quest, I got 97 DEC (49 + 11 + 37).

Tournaments:

Thursday Bronze Blunderbuss, no legendary cards, all sets tournament: A poor showing coming in 5-6 on the first day, to not make the second round. Sadly, this was still enough to be part of a massive tie for 128th place, so I got back 7 DEC out of the 10 spent to enter.

Good Friday Spring Training #3; Bronze rules with no legendary summoners; Untamed, rewards, and Dice sets only tournament: The first day I went 28-1. It had tougher matches day two, but I still finished 48-5-1 to come in 2nd place. I got some more WAX NFT's for this, as it's mainly a fun event put on by @monstergames (aka, Dave Mccoy in the Splinterlands Discord).

The recolored Splinterlands card art came out pretty well on this one.

Brave Novice, no legendary cards, tournament: On day one I went a decent 9-3-1. The second round was tougher and I finished 16-10-1 to come in 17th for 1,000 DEC.

Sunday Untamed Bronze Blunderbuss, Untamed Set only: On the first day I went 7-4, which was surprisingly good enough to make it to the second round. I finished 13-9 to come in 36th place for 100 DEC.

Brave Silver tournament: I ended up getting paired against some of the better players in the tournament, and my collection isn't really up to Silver league limits yet. I went 6-7 on the first day, to not make round two. It was a fairly small tournament, so I ended up coming in 44th place for 1,5000 DEC.

Guild Brawl:

Guild Brawls are a new variation on tournaments, where you and your guildmates fight against a random selection of other guilds. To participate, you need to first build a level 1 Arena for 10,000 DEC. I kicked in a little over 2,000 DEC to finish it off, so that we could participate in the first one.

There were only 13 slots to sign up for specific fights, or brawls, each with a certain rules set, like Novice rules with Untamed only, and 5 of them were for Gold Foil only. I ended up taking a Bronze, Untamed set only, brawl. I went 4-1-1, with the guild overall coming in 2nd place out of the 8 guilds in our grouping. This earned us 11 crowns, which are a new token that is needed to further upgrade the Arena building - to allow for more people to participate. These crowns will also eventually be able to purchase other items to assist the guild in brawls.

Since I still have the links handy, here were my battles:

I was a little disappointed that more people couldn't participate, but the system is clearly a work in-progress, with planned updates coming out in the months ahead. I am tempted to start working on a basic Untamed Gold Foil set of cards to try to be able to fill in one of the five brawl slots for those, as we only had one person even attempt that rule set this first time around. That, or I can keep working towards an actual Silver league set of cards. At any rate, I am happy that they are trying to add new content and give guilds something to do where you actually work together on some goal in the game.

Outside The Game:

As noted, I continue to mess around with buying and selling on Atomic Hub and the in-game market. I picked up the 5 Alpha set Rexxie's that were still for sale on Atomic Hub, as well as the last Alpha Swamp thing. I sold one of the Rexxie's on the Splinterlands market, but so far most of my big ticket items are still up on the market.

At this point, I've still got two extra Kraken, a Cthulu, and a couple of rare summoner cards up on the Atomic Hub WAX token market. The Chanseus The Great that I had picked up didn't sell right away, so he ended up finding his way into my deck. I put a couple of Dice set packs up for sale on Atomic Hub, to try to balance the scales as that's about equivalent to how much I paid for him. Though, if Cthulu doesn't sell he might find his way into my deck too. I might keep one of the Alpha Rexxies as well, if I can move the rest at a decent price.

Or, maybe I should spend some more time playing the actual game!

To wrap things up, I'm up to about 53,000 card power! Jumping up a bit from the Legendary card that I moved into my collection. I am still shy 17,000 card power from being able to get into the Silver I league. I also still have over 40 Untamed packs that I have yet to open. It might be smarter to try to sell them and buy individual cards, but that would also be a lot less fun.

Overall it's been a good week, with some big payouts for mediocre performances in the Brave tournaments. If you have an opinion on what I should focus on, either a Gold Foil deck for Brawls or trying to get a Silver league level set of cards, please let me know.
