If you are just starting out in Splinterlands then you either need deep pockets or friends with benefits. One of the amazing people over in the discord (@jeffandhisguitar) let me borrow a Valnamor Summoner and the card made all the difference in today's daily quest.
Magic, Speed, Health Oh My
Valnamor has what you are looking for if there is a Mana Cap around 18-25 in the lower level leagues. Fill the board with magic users and do some big destruction quickly.
He doesn't play well with big beefy cards like Sea Monster or Kraken in lower Mana Caps. Where he shines is when you can distribute his stats to several smaller threats like Medusa, Sea Genie, Ice Pixie.

Replying to some of the complaints in the video:
Reverse Speed rules - faster monsters can miss slower monsters :/
Though, yea, retaliate (and affliction) being random is technically noted in the description (Has a chance to ...), but it's not obvious how it works just glancing at it.
reading the comment thegcc left, I'll try to find some time to watch the video, so I can maybe provide an answer.
Those abilities he mentioned are basically 50/50, every turn. You can get lucky and have them triggered every time, or you can get unlucky and have them not trigger at all.
But i'll try to watch it some time today or tomorrow
