Hello friends and players of Splinterlands,
the protagonist of this post is the card Sabre Shark which is also the protagonist of the Splinterlands contest titled "Share Your Battle" this week.

Sabre Shark is a card that I used a lot when I was in the initial leagues of Splinterlands, today I rarely use it but it is still a good card especially when it reaches level 2.

The topics I will cover in this post are the following:

Topics

  • Card: Sabre Shark
    • Description, Statistics and Abilities.
  • Cost, Levels and Ratings
    • Level Considerations
  • A battle of mine with Sabre Shark
    • My battle formation.
  • ** Final considerations**
    • Battle considerations
    • Considerations about Sabre Shark

Card: Sabre Shark

image.png

Description, Statistics and Abilities

Sabre Shark is a card that is part of two collections:

  • Alpha
  • Beta

It is a card Common and it is a card of the element Water.

Sabre Shark of level 1 has the following statistics:

  • It has a low mana cost (3)
  • Has 1 point of attack (Melee Attack)
  • It has 2 life points and has no armor points.
  • Has medium speed (3)
  • It has a skill: Sneak

image.png

The cards that have the ability Sneak attack the opponent's card in last position instead of attacking the card in first position.

Cost, Levels and Ratings

The cost of Sabre Shark (Level 1 - Alpha Edition) lowest on the market is 0.27 $ (19 November 2020)
.

In the following image you can see the complete statistics of the card in version Alpha:
.

The cost of Sabre Shark (Level 1 - Beta Edition) lowest on the market is 0.095 $ (19 November 2020)
.

In the following image you can see the complete statistics of the card in version BETA:
.

image.png

Level considerations

The levels that in my opinion have the best ratio benefits / price are:

  • the second level (for players who have low level summoners)
To reach the second level you need 2 cards to combine for the Alpha version and the total cost is 0.54 $ while for the Beta version the cards to combine are 3 and the total cost is 0.285 $.
  • the fifth level (for players who have non-legendary summoners above level 3)
To reach the fifth level you need 19 cards to combine for the Alpha version and the total cost is 5.13 $ while for the Beta version the cards to combine are 25 and the total cost is 2.375 $.
To take Sabre Shark to the top level you need to buy 505 cards for the Beta version and 379 cards for the Alpha version.

Alpha or Beta?

Obviously it depends on the price but if the difference is small it's always better to buy Alpha cards even if you spend a little more because Alpha cards have less copies in circulation and have a higher DEC conversion value.
However, this is not the case. In fact, the price difference of Sabre Shark Level 2 and Level 5 cards is about 50% less in favor of the Beta edition than the Alpha edition.
When the difference is so marked I prefer to buy the beta version.

Now let's see how Sabre Shark behaves on the Battlefield.

A battle of mine with Sabre Shark

image.png

If you want to see the battle you can do it from this link: https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=71c22d0fafcd938850a46a1a7bb319c62b3d14e4&ref=libertycrypto27

In the battle of this post I had the following conditions to respect:
.

image.png

  • Armored Up: All cards have an additional bonus of armor points equal to 2.
  • Equalizer: All cards acquire the life points of both friend and opponent card that has the highest number of life points.
  • Mana Cap: 19.
  • Usable summoners: All available summoners.

My battle formation

The maximum number of cards that can be deployed in battle is 7 ( 1 Summoner + 6 monsters)
.
I have chosen to deploy 6 cards (in order of position):

Furious Chicken - Creeping OOze - Sabre Shark - Ruler of the Seas - Crustacean King - Halfling Alchemist
.
Daria Dragonscale (Summoner)

First position

- Furious Chicken (Level 3 - Gold) -

image.png

Why did I line up Furious Chicken (Level 3 - Gold) in first position?

Because when the battle rule is Equalizer acquires the life points of the card that has the highest number of life points and putting it in first position gives protection to the cards in the next positions.
In fact in the shared battle in this post it acquires a total life of 9 and thanks to the Armored Up battle rule and Crustacean King's ability it also gets a total of four armor points.
The combined use with the Daria Dragonscale Summoner increases its melee attack by one unit (1 ->2).

Second position

- Creeping OOze (Level 4) -

image.png

Why did I deploy Creeping OOze (Level 4) in second position?
When the rule of battle is Equalizer I put two cards that I do not mind losing and that have a very low cost in terms of mana in the first positions.
In particular Creeping OOze has the function of protecting the friendly cards in the next positions. In fact, the second position is, after the first, the most attacked position if the opponent lines up cards with the Reach or Blast ability.
Furious Chicken and Creeping OOze cards together become a good protection barrier to preserve the life points of the most useful cards in battle: Ruler of the seas and Crustacean King.

Third position
.

Sabre Shark (Level 2).

image.png

Why did I choose Sabre Shark (Level 2)?

I chose Sabre Shark because it is the star of the weekly Splinterlands contest. I'd have preferred to field Manticore instead of Sabre Shark and Creeping OOze because Manticore's Thorns ability would allow me to attack the opponent's Haunted Spirit card every turn.
However Sabre Shark behaves well in battle also thanks to the ability of the Summoner Daria Dragonscale that increases its melee attack by one unit (2 -> 3).

Fourth position

Ruler of the Seas (Level 3).

image.png

Why did I choose Ruler of the Seas (Level 3)?

Ruler of the Seas is a card I like very much and it is one of my absolute favorite cards among the water element cards.
It has three very useful abilities:

  • Blast
  • Swiftness
  • Silenced
It has an excellent magical attack (3) and a really strong ability: Blast.
Unfortunately my opponent doesn't line up cards with magic attack and the Silenced ability doesn't produce any positive effect.

Fifth position

Crustacean King (Level 8).

image.png

Why did I choose Crustacean King (Level 7)?

Actually my Crustacean King is level 8 but the level of my Summoner allows me to use it at level 7.
It is one of the most useful cards of the water element and I deploy it practically all the time.
In the battle of this post allows my cards to have two additional armor points.
It costs only 3 Mana and has two very good abilities: Tank Heal and Protect.
It is thanks to its two abilities that the cards in first position are able to withstand an additional number of attacks compared to their statistics.

Six position

Halfling Alchemist (Level 1)

image.png

Why did I choose Halfling Alchemist?

It's a card I like because it has a low cost in mana (2) and has the ability Halving that allows to halve the attack of the card that is hit by its attack.
It is a card that I almost always line up in penultimate position because it has only one life point.
In this battle, thanks to the equalizer rule, it loses one of its weak points and gets 9 life points.

Summoner

The Summoner I have chosen is Daria Dragonscale - Level 4.

image.png

It is one of the summoners I use the most.
Thanks to his skill all my melee attack cards get an extra attack point.
The choice of cards depends a lot on the choice of the summoner and his ability.
For this reason I have chosen to use 3 cards out of 6 with melee attack in battle.

Final considerations

Considerations on the Battle

My opponent chooses to bet on cards with melee attack while I choose to bet mainly on the Ruler of the Seas card with magic attack.
During the first round both my opponent and I keep the initial formation intact even though my opponent's strategy of betting on the combination of Haunted Spirit's "Heal" and Corrupted Pegasus' "Tank Heal" healing abilities seems to prevail.
In fact at the beginning of the Round 2 I lost proportionally more life points than my opponent.

image.png

During the Round 3 my Furious Chicken is eliminated and in first position comes Creeping OOze.
Ruler of the Seas manages to reduce the life points of Corrupted Pegasus opponent which is the card that allows Haunted Spirit to completely restore his energy.
Unfortunately, the Magic Reflect ability of Haunted Spirit has already subtracted many life points from Ruler of the Seas, which remains, at the beginning of the Round 4, with only 3 life points.

image.png

During the Round 5 my opponent loses Corrupted Pegasus while I lose my strongest card: Ruler of the Seas.
At the beginning of the Round 6 the forces in play seem to be in my favor and Sabre Shark becomes my card with the biggest attack.

image.png

At the beginning of the Round 9 the outcome of the battle seems decidedly directed towards my victory.
In fact my opponent remains with only one card in play and no attack because cards with distance attack cannot attack from the first position.

image.png

But the high speed (7) of my opponent's card makes most of my attacks vain.

image.png

At Round 21 comes the Fatigue which reduces the life points of all cards in play by an increasing value for each round of play (starting value equal to 2).

image.png

The battle ends at Round 25.
My opponent remains with only two life points while Sabre Shark still has 5 life points left.

image.png

The winner of the battle is however only one and is called Fatigue :)

In fact, the value of the fatigue has now reached 5 and the battle ends with a draw.

image.png

Considerations on Sabre Shark

Sabre Shark is a not very useful card at level 1 but from level 2 it becomes a useful card especially if you use it in the battles of the initial leagues of Splinterlands.
It becomes a much more useful card when it reaches level 5 and its attack becomes 3.
The strength of Sabre Shark is the cost in mana which is low.
The weak point of Sabre Shark is the small amount of life points that make it a fragile card to protect.
I use little Sabre Shark because I have better cards in my card collection but it is a fairly cheap card and can be very useful to new Splinterlands players.

The battle utility of the Sabre Shark card increases when the battle rules are:

  • Equalizer
  • Armored Up
  • Little League
  • Rise of Commons

With this post I participate in the weekly Splinterlands contest entitled "Share Your Battle".

Furious Chicken - Creeping OOze - Sabre Shark - Ruler of the Seas - Crustacean King - Halfling Alchemist

Daria Dragonscale (Evocatore)

Prima posizione

- Furious Chicken (Livello 3 - Gold) -

image.png

Perchè ho schierato Furious Chicken (Livello 3 - Gold) in prima posizione?

Seconda posizione

- Creeping OOze (Livello 4) -

image.png

Perchè ho schierato Creeping OOze (Livello 4) in seconda posizione?

Quarta posizione

Ruler of the Seas (Livello 3).

image.png

Perchè ho scelto Ruler of the Seas (Livello 3)?

Considerazioni finali

image.png

Durante il Round 3 il mio Furious Chicken viene eliminato e in prima posizione arriva Creeping OOze.
Ruler of the Seas riesce a ridurre i punti vita di Corrupted Pegasus avversario che è la carta che permette a Haunted Spirit di ripristinare completamente la sua energia.
Purtroppo l'abilità Magic Reflect di Haunted Spirit ha sottratto già molti punti vita a Ruler of the Seas che rimane, all'inizio del Round 4, con soli 3 punti vita.

image.png

Durante il Round 5 il mio avversario perde Corrupted Pegasus mentre io perdo la mia carta più forte: Ruler of the Seas.
All'inizio del Round 6 le forze in gioco sembrano in mio favore e Sabre Shark diventa la mia carta con l'attacco maggiore.

image.png

  • Equalizer
  • Armored Up
  • Little League
  • Rise of Commons

Thanks for sharing! - @marianaemilia

Great battle, the Sabre Shark works very well as a tank in this ruleset as it is agile and strong and only lacks high health. Halfling Alchimist was also instrumental in reducing the damage of the opponent's Haunted Spirit. Congratulations.
