Splinterlands - The new Energy System is clear like the light of the day

Splinterlands has thrown a bunch of upgrades in the game today and one of them was the change of the Energy System which now is clear like the light of the day. No more decreasing energy based on the daily battles and calculation of rewards using a decreasing percentage due to that, but rather a linear reward until a specific threshold is reached. And if you want to play more, if you cannot live without staying aside from the battles, you can always purchase some new Energy and throw your fighters into the battlefield. Things are easier now and I think that is both for the players, but also for the Splinterlands team in terms of maintenance and a low probability of issues from a simple, yet efficient system.

Energy Bar

First of all the Energy Bar is well positioned under the Battle button at the center of the page, which is an element that gets any player's attention. Having it there will make it seamless to know how much energy we still have, before pushing the Battle button. The system is quite simple and it consists of 50 Energy bars, with one hour refresh period for 1 Energy point. This ensures that while you can recharge 24 Energy points per day, you can still gather more up to 2+ days in case you are far away from the game for a bit.

Purchase Energy

In line with the Energy Bar there is a "+" button which simply takes us to a new page where we can Purchase additional Energy if needed. The interesting thing here is that the Energy Points have a cost depending on the highest League between the last Season rank, the current Season rank, and the Daily Focus. Why? Just because in the upper leagues there are better rewards, thus each play is more valuable and it makes sense to have a greater cost. This was a smart cookie put in place by the Splinterlands team and I agree with it.

LeagueCost per 1 Energy (DEC)
Bronze1
Silver10
Gold50
Diamond150
Champion500

The New Energy System is well presented in a detailed post Announcing a New Energy System for Splinterlands Ranked Battles that should be read to understand it clearer. I believe that this is a simpler system that should bring more transparency and clarity about how many battles you can do per day and how to purchase more if you are an avid player. At the same time, I like the fact that there is no penalty alongside the battles in terms of rewards.

This is an upgrade that is well-accepted by everyone, I doubt anyone is nagging about it.

Quite true, it is a system that benefits everybody and has also some flexibility on top of it with the purchasing mechanics.

I honestly don't know if I like it or not because I understood the old system. Are the downsides of the previous system (under 50% dark energy capture rate, drain more capture rate) gone? I do think it's easier for new users though.

Now there is no downside to rewards. 50 games, 100% of the rewards are yours, not decreasing with any ECR or so.

This new energy system will take the price of Dec to the moon, I'm pretty sure of it.

That's pretty cool and maybe we'll see DEC repeg again. At the same time, I hope that these efforts will translate also in SPS appreciation, in one way or the other.

The way we see now that the team at Sprintland is coming up with some kind of update every day and that's very good for the project the way they came up with this reward card some time ago. The way has changed the energy system now is a good thing, it will attract new users and one of the benefits is that the price of SPS may also go up.
