How to maximise your earning from the SPS airdrop

avatar

In this article, I'm going to discuss various aspects of the SPS governance token Airdrop and explain how you can maximise your share of the drop. In this situation and with everything else in life, it's always important to know what you want and focus on your strengths.

It is important to take advantage of the situation and improve your life in the process. So, this means that the process of benefitting from the Airdrop actually starts even before the Airdrop starts to be dispersed.
This analysis will be based on this spreadsheet I got from @nealmcspadden

Cash out early

Due to the rapid rise in the value of DEC, and NFT assets in Splinterlands because of the airdrop, it is actually not a bad idea to sell assets a bit earlier than the airdrop.

This approach simply follows the age-old concept of selling when there's a buying frenzy. In my opinion, there's no shame in selling now, especially if you've looked at this spreadsheet and found out that your airdrop will not be worth so much.

If you're going to be selling cards early, focus on selling regular monsters that have had a considerable rise in their value. This will obviously have an adverse effect on the battle firepower but at least you'll be richer.

DEC hodler

Another interesting concept that stems from selling off cards early is that you could hold DEC and increase your chances of earning from the airdrop. According to the spreadsheet, DEC and collection power have the same weight in the airdrop, so holding DEC is the equivalent of that amount on collection power.

As you will have noticed, increasing your collection power is a tad bit expensive. For example, a $4 rare gold foil could cost 3,700 DEC and that will increase your collection power by only 2000 DEC.

It is important to note that if your focus is on maximising your earnings from the airdrop, then you're better off just holding that DEC. However, if you want to battle in higher leagues, you're obviously better off just buying the gold foil card.

SPT matters

For the first time since I started using the spt tag in my posts, the token finally has a legit use-case in a project. It will be considered in giving you airdrop points, and so I recommend you hodl as much as you can.

SPT carries a relatively small weight in evaluating the airdrop but with the token being relatively cheaper than the other options, it might be an untapped avenue to increase your earnings.

At this time, it is also important to spend more time on Splintertalk, curating and posting content to increase the amount of airdrop you'll receive.

Buying packs not worth the stress

The airdrop multiplier for packs varies from 600 to 4800. Untamed packs are the lowest and alpha packs are the highest.

One untamed pack costs $3.49 according to the last time I checked the market price on Hive-engine and that translates to 600 points in the airdrop. Now if we're only considering the airdrop, you can't open the packs.

If you simply held on to the DEC of that value($3.49), you would have roughly 3200 points towards the airdrop. This is why I don't think buying packs simply because of the airdrop is a nice approach.

With that said, if you have untamed packs that you bought in the past, then it is not a bad idea to hold on to them. This is because, while the packs may have cost 2000DEC, if you bought them before the airdrop announcement, then you probably spent less than $2 on it. Also, it is possible you earned the pack as a daily or seasonal reward from battles.

This line of thought can be applied to virtually every other pack in the game. It doesn't just seem like a bright idea to buy packs simply because of the airdrop.

Running the rule

Land is out of stock, so I don't think you can get it simply because of the airdrop. Also, good luck finding someone that wants to sell their land.

Buying skins simply because of the airdrop doesn't also seem like a nice idea. A common skin costs 1920 DEC and that translates to 1000 airdrop points. Holding 1920 DEC translates to 1920 points.

As for the titles, you get those by participating in presales. So if you participated, then good for you, more grease to your elbow.

In conclusion

I think the easiest way to intentionally increase your chances of benefitting from the airdrop is through holding DEC. You can get the DEC from battles or selling off assets.

The second way is by buying gold foils and increasing your collection power. Again, you can get the DEC by selling off your expensive regular monsters and replacing them with less rare gold foils.

Other than the previously mentioned two, SPT is the third easiest and more productive way to increase your airdrop points. You also get extra value, since you curate and earn more SPT from
your SPT.

Intentionally chasing after every other asset SOLELY for the airdrop will not exactly be value for money in the medium term. Packs for example could hold extremely valuable cards inside or maybe the packs themselves could rise in value, so you resell them in the market.

With that said, it is still not advisable to buy packs solely because of the airdrop. You should always have a game plan in mind and work according to it. Focus on your assets and devise means to maximise your potential without compromising your position.

You don't even need to play the game to hold DEC You can h=just straight up buy it from Hive-engine and then hold it there.

I don’t think I’ll be getting much actually, but it doesn’t matter, I need to hold my cards for battle as getting new ones is quite expensive these days

Yeah. I think the price of cards will drop eventually. Nothing can keep rising forever

Thanks for sharing these tips for SPS airdrop... I agree with you about buying stuff at this moment, as prices are already in the sky... But, they always can go higher and that is on others to take their decision what to do...

I have a question regarding SPT tokens... Do you maybe know if delegated SPT tokens will be eligible for the SPS airdrop, or you have to have them in your wallet? I have delegate mine to monster-curator, and maybe I should undelegate to be eligible?

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project and it will be highlighted in the next post!

Normally, I think you'll be eligible even if you delegate them.

Great analysis although with many points to re-think. I can't reply to all of them due to lack of time but I strongly would like you to consider that the $0.018 SPS token price from the private pre-sale, combined with the massive use-cases announced in the SPS whitepaper and the tokenomics of SPS (3 billion after 5.5 years, with a very small initial supply). Considering how much the market of NFT games grows (Axie Infinity's governance token AXS went from $0.10 to $23 and has less use-cases than what Splinterlands will offer with SPS) and how well-established yet still early on Splinterlands is, I think a SPS price of over $0.15 still during 2021 is very much achievable. This would put the market cap at around 100 million USD after the first 6 months (with about 650 million circulating supply). AXS has currently 1.4 billion market cap.

A greater SPS price will result in greater income for players, making Splinterlands more and more interesting for play-to-earn and resulting in more and more players.

Oh yeah, I was going to wok on an article that discusses the huge benefits the token will bring. Exciting times ahead, that'sfor sure
