Splinterlands Investing in Alphas?

With a lot going on in Splinterlands whether its the soon to be presale of lands or to the recent new set of cards in Dice I have been saving my Hive to invest in strengthening my deck. When I first started playing the game I was primarily focused on purchasing alpha cards, and as the game gain popularity so did the cost of alpha cards.

Now with the recent updates in ranking it has become less favorable to own alpha cards and use them when there are multiple more useful cards out there for the same or less price than alphas. Furthermore the use of alpha cards in tournaments I have noticed subsided quite a bit while cards with greater circulation such as Untamed set has seen more tournaments.

But the collector in me wants to obtain more alphas even with all the recent drawbacks. I have grown fond of the game over the years and as I begin my journey for a second year full time playing I feel I am still attached to obtaining alpha cards. Specifically alpha legends since I have very few of them.

Today was a day where someone is trying to off load single bcx legends and although the prices were still high relative to past value I still went and bought some to increase my alpha legend collection. My main reasoning behind going with these purchase is because I long to complete an alpha collection. This goes ahead of me trying to invest in cards for a return on investment or to invest in cards to strength my deck. Rather its a goal I had ever since I started playing the game and collecting cards. Back in the beginning it was only alpha cards so that is where my drive is. To rekindle my past thrills of the game I am determined to collect at minimum 1bcx of every alpha card. Today I made the move and am a few steps closer to that goal.

With today's purchases I have now 5 out of 9 alpha legends regulars. It has been a long awaited time but now I have some of the most lease circulated cards in the game, estimated each alpha legend regular has less than 1,000 in circulation. In addition I have multiple 1 bcx in hopes to resell it at a profit down the road. Looking forward as more updates comes and as Splinterlands get even more popular hopefully all the time I spent collecting these alphas will be well worth it. However even if not I had a lot of fun collecting them.
