Six Year Old Make x10 Profits in Splinterlands

avatar

When I first started playing Splinterlands, I did so "for fun" not realizing what an amazing financial investment it was.

I would let my son play with my cards for hours, which would keep me in the bronze leagues, and not very profitable.

A short time after DEC started circulating, I realized that I was sitting on a gold mine. My cards were worth hundreds of dollars, and I was making lots of DEC with them.

I didn't want to take steemmonsters (now splinterlands) dtjaway from my son, so I bought him his own starter pack, got him his own account, gave him a 50 STEEM delegation, and set him on his merry way.

It has been about a year and a half

The kid plays often but not consistently. And he has the strategy of a six year old boy.

He likes the archers and cares very little about their placement.

He sometimes presses the wrong buttons and places cards for sale.

He refuses to let me rent out his unused cards.

He calls Mana, Drama, and thinks its funny to use less than he is allotted

And he still has $114.71 USD worth of cards.

He also has a small collection of DEC

And this is why I feel like anyone who has access to an electronic device (he uses my laptop, and only when I am not using it) can little by little grow a HODLings in crypto.

Splinterlands likely won't be his trust fund when he is 18

But he sure will have a little savings account which he can trade, and starting your financial life with a little bit of a head start is always a good thing.

What 10 dollar investment can you make, that given time will grow?

And how much do you think those cards will be worth in 12 years, when he is 18 and in need of a car?

100% agree. My kids all have accounts and I'll reward them for good behaviour by buying them packs. Some of these early cards will be very sought after by the time they hit high school. Good on him.

Indeed, Splinterlands could be an amazing opportunity - my account has been growing like crazy ever since I've picked it up and the cards in my possession are worth a multitude of what I've spent on the game. If it ever manages to bridge the gap to the mainstream world, we are bound for some huge returns!

I like the idea of huge returns, but I also like the steady DEC and card income. My card value keeps growing and my Hive Engine is fed some $$$ every time I play.

I've got our oldest daughter on Splinterlands as a bit of an experiment, mostly because I could see she was getting bored with Hive blogging, so I wanted to freshen things up. I do look at it as an investment for her future. If she blogs hard and manages her HIVE carefully, she could buy a small house and land in Cambodia when she turns 18, a pretty good start at adult life, much better than the start I had. !BEER

Small house and land at 18 is a GREAT start - amazing that she could do that with crypto.

It's a goal, might not happen, but it is within the realm of possibilites. Sidenote, I realized my comment was copied around 7 times, all deleted and taken care of. The nodes were acting wonky yesterday causing all kinds of chaos.

I saw the extra comments, I figured it was a glitch.

For my son, to be able to buy a home, he would have to pay at least 300,000 USD today. This would get him a 1 bedroom condo and he would still have to pay the monthly Homeowners Association. This means he would need 18,000 to get started in purchasing a home, then spend the next 30 years working to pay it off.

I think I can aim to have enough cash saved up to buy him his first car. Around here, this is the first financial mistake people make, starting their adult life off with debt. I hope to avoid this for my children.
