My Multiple Micro Income Streams on Hive (besides Hive and Leo Rewards)

avatar

While I'm mainly into blogging and curating on mainly Hive and Leo, I have diversified over the last almost four years and I now have several micro-passive income streams adding to the coffers, here's an overview of the various initiatives I've invested in:

To my mind there are FOUR main ways I earn a completely passive, or passive-ish income on Hive, besides the most obvious ways - blogging and curating on Hive and @leofinance:

  1. Passive returns for holding 'alt hive tokens'
  2. Passive returns from delegating Hive
  3. Blogging and curating through more tribes!
  4. Gaming income

NB this isn't supposed to be a compreshensive list of ways you can earn on Hive, it's just my attempt to review the options I've chosen, the weights I've put into them and the approximate amount they return every month.

Passive returns from buying and holding 'alt Hive' tokens

  • 1050 LBI tokens - Leo Basic Income - a 20% increase in token value since inception around 20 weeks ago (how time flies!)
  • 47 SPI tokens - yielding 1 Hive a month and a nice value increase in the SPI token value since I invested well over a year ago now.
  • 17 BRO - yielding 0.5 Hive a month and micro-returns in other tokens
  • 145 Utopis - yielding 30 Hive a month
  • 1000 DHedge - yielding 3 Hive a month and extremely micro-returns in other tokens.

Passive returns from delegating Hive

  • 10 000 HP delegation to @leovoter - Yielding 100 LEO a month at 16% APY, one of the best returns on Hive I think!
  • 200 HP delegation to @curangel - yielding 2 Hive a month
  • 200 HP delegation to @hodlcommunity - yielding 1 Hive a month, but I like to support smaller projects

Tribal curation and @tipu

  • Splintertalk (SPT) writing and curating - I've got almost 500K SPT which yields me somewhere around 4 Hive a month in curation and the same in author rewards for posting my weekly challenges
  • ProofofBrain (POB) writing and curating - it's early days, but I think around 20 Hive a month is a good guestimate. Just for adding 'proofofbrain' to the tags!
  • PORN curating - with my nearly 90K Porn megawhale stake I'm raking in about 4 Hive a month.
  • curating through @tipu - just by writing @tipu curate after various posts I'm earning about 5 Hive a month, NiCE!

Gaming income

  • Playing Splinterlands - I earn somewhere between $10 to $15 a season, times 2, let's average it out and call it $25 a month.
  • Splinterlands rentals - not too much, somewhere around 10 Hive a month for several cards I've got rented out.
  • @Exodegame card sales - I've got three syndicate contracts so I've got a steady stream of income coming in from selling a few off... I've got more than 20 of these for example, current valuation around $2.50

exode_card_077_SyndicateAyumi.png

Not that I'm selling too many, I'm holding 90%! Hard to say what my income is here, about $5 a month is a reasonable estimate!

Total Hive Alt Income = around $130 a month

That's with assuming Hive is valued at around $0.50, so all in all not too shabby for not actually doing very much at all.

I'll take that!

That makes a very nice passive income, > $2 a day.

Are you playing exode or just selling the cards obtained by contract drops?

There's not a lot to play where Exode is concerned atm, it's still underdevelopment, you can only play the Evac stage, which is great, but then colonisation isn't ready yet.

I don't sell off too many cards, as you never know how much they'll be worth going forwards!

After the Steem / Hive fork I didn't bother to research how tipu works on Hive (I know people here object to bidding bots).

curating through @tipu - just by writing @tipu curate after various posts

So basically you say that if I write

@tipu curate

here it might lead to tipu taking some kind of action on this post ? Or do I need to write that in a separate comment ?

I think it's !tipu curate

I am not a curator for them, but let's see if that invokes the bot.

speaking of bots I see the biggest voter of this post is buildawhale - so are bid bots still around on Hive ?

I think many turned into manual curators. Not sure about buildawhale. Maybe it still frontruns voting for known authors. But the actual "bid boting" business is probably extinct. Now they probably just offer ROI to delegators. Enough front ends have their own promotion services anyway.

In HF25 (coming in June, probably) there will be a change at the curation window level. Every curator within the first two hours will be on equal footing. That should give automated voting less advantage over humans.

I'm sure there's more I could be doing, but my income is not too bad. Better than I get on bank accounts by far. I've set my kids up with Hive accounts and a delegation. They are following a trail I run to get some income that they can use as they want. I've told them to leave it for now and let it build up.

You've set your kids up - there's a post or two in that!

I guess so. Neither of them is interested in posting for now though.

PORN curating - with my nearly 90K Porn megawhale stake I'm raking in about 4 Hive a month.

This.., is still a thing? It was never great during the heydays.., wait.. was there a heyday?

Heydays?

This is like those posters that people used to stare at to see something “pop” out ... if we stare at your comment your age will “pop” out.

Lol 😂

The Heyday was early to mid 2019 when the Tribes were new and shiny. It didn't last long.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t heyday a older word that’s not commonly used?

Nice list! Hmm, I didn't buy any of those syndicate contracts on Exode. In hindsight, looks like they are a good deal and getting better.

If the game kicks off they could be gold dust - lifetime drops for a one off fee, that's my kind of purchase!

Since we’re here...

I have a Leo question that you might be able to help me with. (I didn’t want to create a post for this and I don’t think I’m in the Discord)

I received a reaction from someone in regards to my motivation to take the leap and produce content for Leo. I was left feeling confused and second guessed myself.

My question is, what are the rules and expectations for Leo?

I have looked everywhere with no success in finding specific data to clarify my uncertainty.

LeoPedia contains plenty of information, yet no details on the community standards.

—-

What I thought I knew-

Leo is for financial posts
Quality writing, formatting, and communication skills are standard

——

I’m aware that the masses who populate Leo Finance are veterans with years of deep knowledge and experience in the topics that they speak upon. I clearly don’t hold a candle up to those guys, but I didn’t think that having lesser knowledge, or beginner knowledge meant that I do not belong.

Or does it?

Shouldn’t Content span different ranges? Wouldn’t a beginner crypto / blockchain obsessed individual generate beginner articles that would appeal to those who aren’t crypto super brains?

Another thing- my experience and infatuation with crypto is fresh (two yrs but 6 serious months) but I’m not daft in regards to economics, business, social, political, media, etc. On the contrary. I received an explosive 100% in my college economics class (I thought I was going to hate it and was very wrong), and have extensive education and career background on many (if not all) elements that come into play regarding financial topics.

What is it that I don’t comprehend?

🥺

If you have a finance related post... write it!

The community wants and needs different writers at different knowledge levels. Two years in crypto is actually a looooooong time and I would be interested in seeing what you have learned.

I say just go for it, write what about what interests you (I would say 'passionate about' but that sounds a bit naff) with integrity and you should do pretty well on here.

Content wise it's anything related to finance - the posts which do well are those related to investments and especially crypto. Also posts about Hive are welcomed.

There are very few authors on here who are crypto super brains, most, even the whales, just got lucky.

You'll see plenty of whales getting upvotes for any old shit they churn out however, that's because people chase whale votes by voting for them, same on Hive, but on Leo decent financial content tends to do well.

As to standards, the more effort you put in the more you should get rewarded, there's no minimum standard as such, but the better rewarded posts tend to be a bit longer - say 500 words or probably more, and with a decent structure.

Just go for it!

It gives you lifetimes drops of various cards - mainly officers and crew, but also a ship, weapons, drugs. There might be some available on the market.

Love leo.voter. It's the easiest way to earn a hundred a month without lifting a finger. Add in a little $cub built up over the past month and things are not too bad around here.

It just takes time to find the best ways of earning.

You know I hadn't even thought about Cub, but then again it's hardly a side earner for me and not really Hive!

Leo Voter is good! We need a page with all these options!

Interesting stuff!
Funny how doing little bits and bobs here and there can add up.
It could potentially be quite a lump sum in the future.
I am focusing on babysteps towards a passive income so you've given me new avenues to check out! Thanks!
