A Rusty but always ready to rumble Android

Virtually every Splinterlands battle is unique, and this is despite how many times you think you've seen it before. You get in there with a team that you think will win you the battle, based on the ruleset and then, of course, hope for the best.

In this battle that featured Rusty Android, I found myself with literally the perfect team for this particular battle, and it was thanks to a combination of my summoner, a certain reflector and a phantom that tuned down the magic.

The Battle

This was largely a team effort like every splinterlands battle but the deciding factor was my summoners and the phantom soldier. Here is how I lined up the team;

The Summoner

Picking Mimosa seemed like a no-brainer to me, despite the fact that she's not my most upgraded summoner and that the rules don't permit healing. Funny enough, the main reason I picked her was because of the other rule of the battle, equaliser.

I've noticed that whenever there's equaliser rule in play, people tend to squeeze in as many magic users as possible. Seeing as she gives every friendly monster magic resistance and reduces ranged attack for good measure, she was the perfect choice for this battle.

The Rusty Tank

Two main reasons I picked the rusty android over Lord Arianthus was because, I expected my opponent to squeeze in many magic users. SO, I wasn't really scared of physical attacks. Unfortunately, the android couldn't last long in battle but before it left, it made a little bit of a nuisance of its self by reflecting all them magic hits.

Reach Birdie

Okay, Birdie couldn't exactly be in peak condition since healing was switched off by the ruleset, so I figured, why not use it anyways to increase the health of friendlies?

It also has reach, so it can do decent melee damage from the second position. I think it was generally a good choice with all things considered.

The key

Phantom soldier played a pivotal role in achieving this victory. Along with Mimosa Nightshade, this monster combined devastatingly to ensure that my opponent's magic damage was useless.

On top of reducing magic attack, the monster also has a pretty strong hit from its own attack and it played a big role in removing that pesky goblin mech that threatened to put a dent in my plan.

Speed Booster

The spirit Miner was in the battle for boosting speed. I put it closer to the end just in case there was a sneak monster wicked enough to get beyond Cornealus and the poisonous spider.

Poison

In battles where healing and self-healing are off, I almost always include a monster with poison ability. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it's damage early enough. If it injected poison by the 1st or second round, my rusty android would not have died.

Thorns at the back

Last but certainly not least, we have Cornealus at the back. In hindsight, its lack of healing made it a weak spot for any sneak monster with a heavy hit like a sand monster or skeleton assassin or silvershield assassin with poison.

Luckily, I didn't have to worry about either of those monsters mentioned above, and it was smooth sailing. It didn't really have any effect on the battle until the Goblin Mech was taken out. It does considerable damage with its +3 ranged hit and also hit early enough, thanks to the speed-boosting Spirit Miner.

It worked out

This battle is one of those situations where everything worked out perfectly. With that said, there are aspects that I could have done differently; one of them is the choice of tank. Using the Rusty Android put me at a distinct disadvantage since it doesn't have any sort of resistance of its own, but hey, it wasn't alone.

Goblin Mech exposed the fragility of the tank and if it weren't for Mimosa Nightshade and the Phantom soldier, I would have easily lost this battle. Lord Arianthus or the Golem would have been an absolute nightmare for my opponent in this battle.

It is also worth noting that using Mimosa Nightshade for this battle wasn't because she was the most upgraded summoner in my deck. It was because she was more suited for the battle. My monsters were generally a level lower than that of my opponent's but I still won the battle. This indicates that sometimes, using a more suitable summoner, despite the level, will give you an advantage over an opponent.

I only used it for the battle today. There's hardly any need to use it.
