Hello Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Hello Everyone forgive the 5 o'clock shadow, while this is technically my second post allow me to backtrack to my introduction...

20211026_142143.jpg

The name is epsilon-killer, born and raised in southern California and am glad to be here on the Hive blockchain. I graduated from Liberty University in 2020 with a BS in Business Management and Computer Science. I have been working in the wireless medical technology field since 2015 and have been lucky enough to grow with my company and am now working as a software engineer. Recently Splinterlands introduced me to the Hive blockchain, and I have been loving what Hive is doing to build a self sustaining community!

Some of my hobbies include board games, pen and paper RPGs, cooking, and breaking bread with friends. My favorite board game currently is called Root! It is a game in which every player gets a faction of woodland critters and battles for control of the forest after the cats take over. Root is also available on Steam and the Google app store as a video game, though I prefer the physical copy. Support your local game store and check it out!

When it comes to pen and paper RPG's I have been running a campaign in Pathfinder for the past 5 years and have finally brought it up to DnD 5E in order to make it less homework the game and promote more in depth story telling and character development. Pathfinder definitely brought some great changes to 3.5e but the rules became quite cumbersome when adding up modifiers from several different factors. Though I run a DnD campaign, my favorite RPG to build in would have to be the Traveler setting. Traveler has such great character randomization options, creating one is a game in itself! I remember me and some friends would bust out the book just to waste an hour making characters together and seeing whos randomly generated character was the coolest. When it comes to playing in a campaign, the most fun I had was playing a drunken cheesemonger dwarf in The Elemestor Saga, a made up book series that doesn't exist. So many laughs and ridiculous things happen in that setting, never trust a duck wearing a hat!

I absolutely love to BBQ. I make my own rubs and marinades from scratch, and make some killer burnt ends. I have roasted a series of whole pigs, because I love lechon, and it better have crispy chicharron or get out! When I roast pigs I make a mojo marinade inject it and let it rest over night. In the morning I cook it for 4 hours and voila, perfect lechon! Below is the most recent pig I roasted for a block party in our cul-de-sac. In a couple weeks I will be roasting my first goat for a company BBQ, and would like to post on the process, which community would be best?

Resized_20210731_145556.jpeg

I cannot wait to become a part of the community and continue to connect with others who shar similar interests! If there is something that you would like me to post about or have any community suggestions, feel free to pass them along!

PS Thanks to @traciyork & @lovesniper for the intro help!

Bro I haven't played table top in too many years, since a bit before covid to be honest. I always loved pathfinder but I read through the 5e rulebook (yes I am that kind of nerd) and I think it would be easy enough. Do you still have a group? What do you think about rpg.net?

Haha @ecoinstant, I am from the same slice as you I have read every pathfinder book I own (I have several) and have gone through the core set of the DnD 5e books. Rulesets and game mechanics are fascinating to me, especially when the mesh well with the lore backing them.

I do have a group that has varied in size over the years, but currently we have a 4 person group that is running the Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign that I have reskinned to fit my world. We are currently running an arc that I have made outside of the campaign setting between the Isle of the Abbey and the Final Enemy. It is a great setting if you are not looking for a rigid pre-generated campaign and has lots of places to add your own touches.
I have not actually used rpg.net before, but I have used roll20's virtual table top platform during covid so we could continue to play. While I love the idea and grateful that they have a free version, nothing quite compares to getting together with a group of friends, breaking bread and rolling some dice.

Have you ever considered an online campaign before?

Love the meme! Clintok sounds like they were a fun character to play, how did that +8 to knowledge checks work out for you? +8 at level 1 is insane lol. At level 5 you could easily get that up to +15 or higher. In an old campaign of mine, a buddy made a tiefling rogue that was big on diplomacy and had a +18 by level 6.

I'll forgive the 5 o'clock shadow if you forgive my delay in saying hello! 😂

We had a wicked wind/rain storm here in New Hampshire over the past day, so I figured the flickering lights made for a good excuse to take a short break from the blockchain. The 19 bazillion notifications this morning tells me it wasn't such a great idea. 😆

All that aside though, thanks so much for doing this intro post. I haven't had much time for gaming lately (I really need to do something about that), but Root looks like something I'd enjoy. I've always wanted to give DnD a go, but the closest I got was rolling a character many years ago, right before the DM moved away. Which reminds me - I need to catch up on Critical Role - I think I'm still only in the first season.

And yes, as long as you somehow link to the original sources for the pictures, that's definitely adequate. Please feel free to tag me again if you have any other questions, and speaking of - Foodies Bee Hive Community would be a good community for your BBQ post (and I'm tagging @braaiboy because I'm thinking he might be interested in keeping an eye open for it 😁).

Hey there @epsilon-killer ... welcome to the Hive party.

Seems we have a bit more in common than just BBQ... but like @ecoinstant I haven't played table top since pre-Covid :-(

Re where to post: Yeah the @foodiesbeehive that Traci mentioned is full of cool people and great competitions/opportunities to get curated. Which reminds me: I haven't posted there, or much anywhere else to be honest, in forever... #FacePalm

P.S. I'm still working on my own BRAAIB - Braai (sort of) = BBQ here in SA token bot... but in the meantime you can have some !BEER !WINE & !PIZZA

Hey @braiiboy, I saw your recent post on rallying the troops (not sure how to format hyperlinks here) and gave it a like. I love Splinterlands.

I am excited to document the start to finish on the whole goat! Though I am not sure how much should be shown of the raw animal before cooking, I imagine no one really wants to see the slaughtering and skinning process. I've sourced a local farmer and went there last weekend to pick out the one that was most liked. It should be a great time!

Thanks for the beer, wine, and pizza. Ill have to do some research on how those work!

Thank you for the reply! Sounds like you got a much needed break, hope you were able to enjoy the rain before jumping back into the beast haha. I know I love to sit and watch the rain when it really starts coming down.

Thanks for the pointers for the foodies bee hive! Ill be sure to jump in there with my process, I think others will enjoy.

Great game, very high replay value! Takes a couple hours with a few friends. My favorite team to play is the woodland alliance.

Awesome I'll have to check it out. I'm looking too for a game I could play with my 11 / 8 year old daughters. If you have any recommendations for fun easy to get into and short tabletop games I'm all ears!

Yes! Try out Ticket to Ride, my 9 year old daughter loves this game. Easy concept, everyone draws some objectives to make a train route from one location to another, if you complete them by the time the game is over you get points for it. You then draw shorter routes that can be played and placed on the board, but your routes can be blocked by your opponents! Much like Settlers of Catan and how people can block road placement. The link below with the image source will give you all the details on the game. Check it out!
