The Black Lotus card from Magic the Gathering, a trade-able card game, is perhaps the most famous playing card ever to exist.

That fame might have a little to do with it being sold for $166,000+

Whats so special about this card? This is one of only 29 cards that exist in the Alpha edition and in addition to its rarity, its a very powerful card in the game. Even though the game has been extremely successful, is still in its infancy.

With three or four thousand players, a doubling or tripling of the player base overnight is not out of the question.

By taking this potential Black\gold lotus off the market, the price of the remaining Selenia Sky cards for sale has increased dramatically:

It is completely obvious to me that if this auctioned card sells for a hefty sum this will generate incredible press for the game. This auction should be supported by all cardholders who by owning cards own a stake in the game itself.

It’s kind of so freaking obvious it makes me want to scream.
