'The Magi Sphinx' - Original Music - Throwback to Some Early Splinterlands Inspired Tunes! Orchestral/Instrumental + Walkthrough!

I've been a bit busy

with family and friends this holiday season, so I've not got a new tune to share today. But, I figured since it's the end of the year (the DECADE, even), it'd be fun to go back and revisit another song I wrote, inspired by Splinterlands. At the time, this would've been inspired by Steem Monsters, technically, as the name change happened shortly afterwards. I was trying to write some epic, orchestral songs in this time. I wish I had access to better instrument packs, specifically for strings and brass, as these Ableton packs aren't the greatest, and have a very digital sound, so maybe one day I'll redo all these all songs by plugging in new VSTs as I acquire them.

Listen to The Magi Sphinx here.

This song is in 11/8

though it doesn't ever really feel too odd, as each measure begins with a 6/8 sort of feeling, then 5 at the end. I really like what goes on harmonically too; I wrote the first half of the progression in a very diatonic way, then got really dissonant and weird with the second half. I essentially left half of the horns playing the same thing, and altered their harmonies, to achieve that intense 'spiciness'. If these brass ensembles had more articulation options, I think it would help to make this feel a bit more real.

Hope you like today's throwback! Thanks for listening, and Happy New Year!
