The quest for Diamond III

avatar
(Edited)

With only a day left in the Steemmonster season, I am doubting if I could complete my quest and reach Diamond III. A season or 7 ago, Diamond III was normally my end station but in the past season sometimes I was even lucky to reach Gold I.
So, during the season I did some moderate investments! And things did pay off until a few days ago! I did reach Gold I with 5 more days left in the season, giving me hope that Diamond III could be reached.
But in the past few days I am understanding that this will not be a walk in the park! It is tough to get there!

Today's quest was with the Earth monster which did cost me some rating points. Before the quest I came close to Diamond III, missing it with only 40 rating points. And now after the quest and lot's of players trying to reach their desired level I still need 125 rating points!

Investment time!

So it was time for an investment. 2 to be precise.
I have a table with all the card I still need to purchase to get a decent deck together.
I was updating the list with the current prices to see how much steem it would cost me. That was when I did see that 2 Pirate Captain were out their for a bargain. $0.04 in stead of $0.08. Because I still did need 21 of those I did buy those 2 cards for a total of 0.346 Steem.

But I also understand that the legendaries rule in the higher levels. So, I did decided to bring my Lord Arianthus to level 2. Luckily I only needed one card to be able to do this. The price was big, much more than I am normally willing to pay! But sometimes sacrifices need to be made.
I am lot's of time loosing against those one, mostly level 3 but also level 2.
So I do think that it was a good purchase, and will give me more option when lining up the monsters.
I did pay 16,122 steem for this lord.

Beta Packs

But my round of investment wasn't over yet. Most of the cards I do want to power up are the Beta cards. These cards are getting more expensive by the day! So in stead of buying the single cards, I decided to try my luck.
I still had some steem pegged token avialable on steem-engine and with those I bought 5 Beta booster packs!
Total cost: 38,45 steem.

So my total investment was 54.918 steem.

Booster packs

Pack 1

A pretty decent pack. A total value of $1.919 or 8.343 steem. Enough to cover the costs and make a small profit.
Very happy with the elven one. I still need a lot of them and with around $0.45 that is an expensive upgrade. Also Rexxie and Feral Spirit were welcome.
The other will be put of for sale!

Pack 2

Opening this one was a bummer, a value of only $0.368 or 1.6 steem.
Most of these will be sold. The goblin sorcerer was used to strengthen the existing one in my deck!

Pack 3

The 2 earth ones are nice, because my Earth Summoner still is at level 4, all my monster are accordingly. So, I did use them to prepare those monster a little bit to the upgrade of Lyanna.
The value of this deck was a little bit better than pack 2, but still at a loss!

Pack 4

Much better than pack 2 and 3 (even combined). A summoner always has it's value and the Silvershield Paladin is also a good catch. However both will be sold. Maybe I will keep the Malric Inferno a little bit longer.

Pack 5

Here is where the magic did happen.

Just a great pack! The first card was spot on. A golden foil Screaming Banshee. This has a market value of $19.25. Or 83 steem. This card alone is more worth than my complete investment.
So, yes it has been put up for sale. There are only 130 in existence!
But also the Earth Elemental is a valuable card for my collection and the Centaur also does come in useful!

Verdict

Will this investment help me to reach Diamond III this season. Probably not. But it does enforce my deck overall. The Lord Arianthus could maybe be the difference between making it or not!
And if the Golden Foil Screaming Banshee get's sold, I am in the green (+52 steem) and can invest some more steem into other cards. If the screaming banshee isn't sold. I do have a card which will probably become more expensive with the season.

The problem is that I do have double goals. One is to decrease my losses at steemmonsters and the other is to get the most out of it. This is of course a conflict because the one requires investments while the other requires selling of cards.

Cheers,
Peter
