Steem-Engine Helping To Create Niche Based Social Platforms

steem-engine-for-post.jpg

When I joined the Steem blockchain one thing I had issues with solving was how to know the right tags to use. What was my post about? Which tag was best to use to make more people interested such topics see it? At the end of the day I ended up using tags that were sometimes unpopular and because of that I didn’t really get much interaction via comments or upvotes on some of my earlier postings.

So, it’s not about using #ketcom or #rabbits because those were not popular tags and you probably won’t get anyone noticing you if you use those tags. It is also not about using #life, #steem or #steemit because they are among the most popular tags, chances are that you little post if not promoted might not see that light of day.

Steem Engine To The Rescue

Before now we had UIs (user interface) like busy, esteem, partiko, steempeak and others I am not too familiar with, their focus was to create a more user friendly interface with additional features the Steemit platform did not offer and sometimes with added incentives in the form of upvores or tokens.

But @aggroed and his team developed Steem-Engine for which users could create tokens for virtually anything of interest and with the introduction of Scotbot to Steem-Engine all hell was let loose. We now have multiple UIs that are niche specific, with their own tokens and offering users the opportunity to earn not just SP and Steem/SBD but also the ability to earn their own tokes which could be traded, staked or mined.

User Interface (UI) And Their Niche

https://www.weedcash.network/ (WEED)
weedcash.jpg

This was the first UI powered by Steem-Engine Scotbot. It has a thriving community and their niche is mostly Cannabis Related Content related post, the tag is weedcash.

https://www.steemcoinpan.com (SCT)
steemcoinpan.jpg

Many in the English speaking community didn’t know about this SCT until palnet come on board to open our eyes to what is happening on the blockchain. It actually started two months and you have mostly Korean language based post on it, though other languages post are allowed on the platform. Their niche is mostly Block Chain and Cryptocurrency related post and their tag is SCT.

https://www.triplea.reviews (AAA)
triplea.jpg

Another UI people in the English speaking community didn’t find out about on time was another Korean contribution to the blockchain called TrippleA. The niche is mostly Movie, TV and Anime related post and reviews, their tag is AAA.

https://www.palnet.io (PAL)
palnet.jpg

A lot of people were surprised to see this token when they login into their Steem-Engine account, some didn’t even know anything about it until they started seeing a lot of post about it. Some users dumped it for the free cash they were not expecting, while some kept buying and staking them, and some just left them there until they understood what it is before taking any actions. For now it is a General niche platform like steempeak.com, busy.org and other steemit.com alternative platform and their tag is palnet, do not confuse the tag with the tag palnet with their token palcoin as using the token palcoin as a tag without including the palnet tag doesn’t make it a palnet post.

https://www.splintertalk.io (SPT)
splintertalk.jpg

This is a UI coming from the Steem Mmonsters management team, they have a forum too and the niche is mostly Splinterlands / Steem Monsters related post and their tag is SPT.

https://www.sportstalksocial.com (SPORTS)
sportstalk.jpg

Sportstalk is a sport related UI and you get to see a lot of post that has to do with all sports generally. The niche is easy to get based on the name i.e. Sports related post and reviews, their tag is SPORTSTALK.

https://www.steemleo.com (LEO)
steemleo-snapshot.jpg

Steemleo was launch not up to a week ago and their mode of launch amazed a lot of us because they airdropped 1 for 1 for members that staked their Palcoin. A lot of us went to our Steem-Engine account and discovered this token without knowing what it was. After many members started posting about it the buzz spread around like wild fire. The niche is mostly ** community for investing content** related post and reviews, their tag is STEEMLEO.

As more tribes are forming and people getting together to form a community it shouldn’t be a surprise if we see more UIs coming onboard in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if @blueeyes8960, @mariannewest, @jayna and others come up with a UI that focuses on writing or @emergehealthier comes up with a UI focused on poems or @mariannewest with a UI focused on gardening or @j85063 with a UI focused on cars or @crypt-skip with a UI about animation or @definethedollar with a UI for his project Solairitas and the list goes on and on. Lol.

Be Mindful Of The Tags You Use

With all these UIs offering additional rewards via tokens for upvotes received i.e. through curation and authors reward one is tempted to use tags all the tags when the post is created has nothing to do with the tag been used. In some niche UIs, use of their tag for unrelated post will likely lead to your post getting a downvote. So you need to be sure your post contributes positively and talks about that platforms niche before using that tag.

Note: Please don’t take this as a financial advice, do your own research or contact your lawyer or accountant before taking any decision. If you sight me as your source of information for taking your own financial decisions I’ll say I said whatever I said under the influence of alcohol. Lol.

As a steem noob (though an experienced cryptocurrency user/miner), this post was very helpful by giving me a much better picture of the breadth of the steem community and the nature of the different UIs. Thanks!

@ketcom - Very inventive post! You talked about all the UIs and got to tag them all! Way to use the power of the blockchain! And thanks for the shout-out - maybe we will start our own for fiction writing!

hi@ketcom

don't you think that many users traded their STEEM into other tokens build on steem-engine and that only accelerated recent steem price drop?

Hi @crypto.piotr

I don't really think that is the case. Personally, between June and July i've bought more than 1000 Steem, this is the largest amount of Steem I've bought in such a short time and it saw my SP has grown from 1600 to 2250+. Yes, I've invested in the tribes but that's like less than 20% of the total Steem I bought and this is the situation for most of my friends.

My understanding of how the Steem-Engine DEX works is that the Steem you exchange remains in the Steem blockchain, It is not a situation that you sold Steem for Bitcoin, Litecoin or other altcoin.

So, in my own understanding, it is supposed to improve the price of Steem because people are buying bitcoin and other altcoins and then converting them to Steem. The Steem which is exchanged for other tokens are on the Steem blockchain which is also like tying down your token to the blockchain.

I'm glad to see that you're growing so fast @ketcom :)

My understanding of how the Steem-Engine DEX works is that the Steem you exchange remains in the Steem blockchain, It is not a situation that you sold Steem for Bitcoin, Litecoin or other altcoin.

It doesn't really make any sense to me. I cannot see how all steem-engine tokens prices would be gowing up/down (Depending on demand and supply) and it wouldn't affect price of STEEM.

But perhaps I'm wrong.

Cheers
Piotr

Thanks @crypto.piotr

It doesn't really make any sense to me. I cannot see how all steem-engine tokens prices would be gowing up/down (Depending on demand and supply) and it wouldn't affect price of STEEM.

I think the best way I can explain it is using an exchange for instance with bitcoin as the base crypto. People convert fiat to buy bitcoin and the use the bitcoin to exchange for altcoins. Now those altcoins are traded on the exchange, when sold they are converted to bitcoin and when they are bought bitcoin is converted to alcoins.

The key point is the the fiat remains in cryptocurrency.

In like manner, when users want tokens of the tribes a lot of them buy Steem, when they are traded on the Steem-Engine DEX Steem is the base crypto. The money isn't been converted to other cryptos outside of steem. And the more people want to grow on any of the Tribes the more they buy Steem which is converted to any of the tribes.

So in this case the fiat converted remains in the Steem blockchain.

It surely is confusing @ketcom :)

Thx for taking the time to explain it to me.

Cheers
