Splinterlands Sunday!: New Rewards System and Season End!

The show must go on no matter what is happening around us in the Steem ecosystem as the blockchain continues to produce blocks every three seconds and the Splinterlands Seasons never stop going. This was another interesting Season as a number of changes were implemented during the last two weeks which have made the engagement with the community and game different. Not only were new Reward edition cards introduced, but we also had a new Rewards system deployed in order to adjust with the growing amount of players and accounts now playing the game.

Some of the these changes are completely new to me as I have not been able to really prepare for them but have continued to feel encouraged with what the changes mean for the game. The fact that Rewards needed to be changed signaled positive trends for me which mixed with others I have been seeing. I feel that we are seeing record numbers of players and accounts playing and transacting in the ecosystem which is a positive trend to the value being created not only for our Collections but also our Steem accounts which seem to have become more relevant these days.

The influx of new players have also helped a growing number of players achieve higher ranks this Season. I got off to a strong start this Season as I got as high as 18th early in the Season which has been consistent as of late. However, I knew that it would not be sustainable as I have bot being able to play more than enough to get my Daily Quests done. My second account was done by @gamercrypto and got to Diamond Division III again which shows what a good and experienced player with mid tier cards can do!

As the Season continued, it became clear that Top 50 would be out of reach as top players were clearly using the higher engagement to their advantage. Luckily, with about three hours left I was able to both achieve Champions Division I and my final Daily Quest! It got me to 85th with 3,708 points! I believe that almost all of the Top 100 players on ranked battles this Season made it into the top Division of Champions this Season.

This is always my minimum goal as the ability to get more Season ending rewards is important now more than ever given the changes. Whereas we were getting cards in every reward, the new system now rewards other items like DEC, packs, Orbs, and Potions in addition to cards. Therefore, the likelihood of getting Reward edition cards has been reduced which impacts the ability to quickly maximize card levels over time in addition to “farm” excess cards to sell or trade. While this concerns me as a Collector and Competitor which likes to maximize cards, it also makes me feel that getting cards is more special and adds more value given their scarcity. It also makes cards more valuable as they are seemingly more scarce. I am glad that I have continued to hold on to all cards for the future!

It was clear by my quests and rewards this Season that cards are more scarce as I feel like only 30% of loot chests had cards for me. Also, despite the fact that many loot chests are potions, I feel that Gold Foil cards as well as Legendary cards are much rarer to get. However, I was happy to see myself get a Gold Foil Epic of a new Reward card and a new Legendary as well this Season! I also found it interesting the fact that I got a reward of over 10k DEC for Season rewards as well! That can surely be added to my stack of DEC I have been holding as DEC also becomes more difficult to accumulate with the amount of activity surrounding Splinterlands these days!
