Splinterlands: NEVER FORGET the Furious Chicken!

Often it can be all too easy to forget to add that 0 mana Furious Chicken to the lineup. Usually, it is used as a one hit (or two hit if there is armour) sacrificial damage sponge to take the hit instead of some other actually useful card. It is pretty damn rare that it actually makes a significant contribution to the fight!

However, in this particular battle... it was the winning card! This little guy is surrounded by hefty big hitters in the 6-8 mana cost range... and so I really wasn't expecting him to do more than take the hit of a possible sneak attack. This battle was just too funny to not share with the world... and as a bonus, it was the battle that got me up into the Diamond 2 tier for the first time in my #splinterlands life!

It really is the equivalent of stepping on a banana peel and face-planting into a pile of cash! No style, no skill... just stupid luck!

The Match

So, a relatively decent 30 mana battle with the Aim True and No Healing Conditions. For me, I had a daily quest to complete with the Dragon Splinter, and I ended up opting for the Water Splinter as my side kick to the Dragons. In hindsight, it was a bit of a weird choice... I really should have gone for the Life or Earth Splinter as they would synergise better with my +1 Melee Attack summoner. Who knows what I was thinking...

Interestingly enough, my opponent also chose the Water Splinter... with one of the new summoners. not really sure what he does!

No Healing means that it is an easy choice for the lead position. Lord Arianthus... it's cheesy, but having a passive aggressive shield really does work! In the second position is the Manticore, it has Reach and Thorns making it a nice second position, especially if the front line tank goes down.

In the 3rd and 4th spots, I have the Dragon Jumper (a card I was lucky to pick up early on in the Untamed packs) and the Feasting Seaweed. I'm going for maximum internal disruption with these two guys, my summoner is a Melee bonus skill so I don't want too many Ranged or Magic monsters in my line up.

Finally, I have the stellar Blue card The Lord of the Seas. This is such a killer card with the Blast skill and the Swiftness and Silence buff and debuff. Every time I deploy a Magic Splinter team, this is a sure fire inclusion!

Oh yes, I almost forgot... the Furious Chicken. I have space and I no more mana. If nothing else, he will take a hit so that my Lord of the Seas can survive another round!

The first round doesn't go that great for me. I have lots of reflection back to the Lord of the Seas, and he finishes out the round stunned as well. The Lord Arianthus is unlikely to survive the next round either. Not good.

The second round sees us both lose our front line tanks. However, it also sees me finish with a stunned Manticore and a Lord of the Seas ready to drop in the following round. My Opportunity monsters are still hitting strong though and making a nice mess of the squishier parts of the enemy lineup.

Round Three looks to be a dead loss for me. I don't think I can take down the Prismatic Energy in time, and then it will be game over for me.

Round Five... yep, I'm down to a Furious Chicken vs two much stronger monsters. BUT WAIT! Furious Chicken takes DOWN the Prismatic Energy! Meaning that the Cyclops is stuffed... he is a ranged card and can't attack the little Chicken who just slowly pecks him to death!

Wrap Up

Well... there you have it... it doesn't happen often that the Furious Chicken is the killing blow of the game... usually, the contribution that this card makes to a team is by taking a hit meant for someone else. But in this epic down to the wire game... well, the Furious Chicken was a lucky last minute addition!

Don't Forget Your Chicken!

The Untamed Water summoners gives -1 magic to the opponent's team.

I tried so hard to learn to always add that chicken, and now I often mess up in the No Neutrals quest. I'm often excited to see I've won, and then have to go check why the battle didn't count for the quest. Always that damn chicken ;0)
