what does land do? i dont understand the value. could you tell me what a plot will do fore me other then being a digital land? e.g with cards before there was a game, what will a land card do`?

Check this post. In short, there will be a gameplay change in the future: After both players choose their teams, when the teams are revealed you'll get the option to use items. That will add a lot of strategy to the game!
Items is a new planned feature: The only way to get items is to mint it with a land. Items will never be sold by Splinterlands team. They can only be made by players who purchased lands.
