The secret of @bji1203, the king of the Splinterlands. :)

in #splinterlands9 months ago (edited)

Hello Steemians, hello Splinterlands fans, today's post is dedicated to the most successful Steem Monsters player ever, worldwide (yes, I think I can write that without exaggerating), @bji1203.

@bji1203 is clearly outclassing all other players!

Below you see the current ranking list, which shows that the distance between him and the second ranked player is far bigger ('unreal' 656 rating points!) than the distance between the second and the tenth place (287 points):

Impressing is also his "max streak" of 26 consecutive games, and especially a winning percentage of 78 % (against the strongest available opponents)!

Always when a new edition of cards is being introduced his advantage is getting even bigger until the other players are able to adapt to the new conditions (and also copy his strategies).

Some said, his success was the result of avoiding certain opponents, playing against own alt accounts or owning Prince Julian ... but come onnn: he is simply by far the best player, and who doesn't accept that has either no idea about our Splinterlands game or is just jealous! :)

Example of his playing style

This battle from a recent Diamond League tournament shows, how naturally he integrates the new Untamed Edition cards into his game play:

Start position (unfortunately under a linux operating system the pictures of the summoners are still not shown!):

What is/are the reason(s) for his superiority?

Is he simply the fastest and most creative thinker among all Steem Monsters players? Possible, but in my opinion that wouldn't explain such a huge distance between him and the other top players.

Is he using a data base of all played games which suggests him the best teams based on the statistical results of these games? Possible, as well, but many other players are doing that, too, and again I don't think that's the main reason for his success.

I can only speculate (yes, I light-heartedly admit doing just that now), but for me it seems most likely that he has created his own Splinterlands simulation software in which he can play thousands of virtual games within minutes and enter the stats of every new card immediately, so that he has more statistical data available than everybody else, especially much more than the number of real games which have already been played.

As a chess player I know that even in times where certain famous grand masters like Emanuel Lasker, 'Bobby' Fischer or Garry Kasparov dominated the chess scene, the difference between them and their best opponents wasn't as big as the difference between @bji1203 and the rest seems to be in Splinterlands. Only since chess software started to conquer the chess world and overtook the strongest human players, we can observe such huge rating differences in chess: between inferior humans and superior software like AlphaZero ...

What do you think is the main reason for his success?
Would you like to say something yourself, @bji1203?

Anyway, whatever the reason is, his achievements on the battle field deserve my highest respect.

Sort:

I'm just glad I can beat him every once in a while, lol. Other can do so to, I remember hossainbd being first on the board a two or three seasons a go.

All that speculation does make me wonder: am I really the only player in top 50/top 100 that plays without scripts, spreadsheets, lists of some sort?

... am I really the only player in top 50/top 100 that plays without scripts, spreadsheets, lists of some sort?

No. :)

:0)

Bots and AI taking over.

Words of truth ...

In every case he is a great player and that he dominates the leaderboard in that way cannot come alone from his cards cause there are other players who have the same cards. I am also curious if it's intention and instinct or artificial intelligence, but I guess in the end it's both.

Another point what make me curious is if it will a player (or more) who will be able to beat him - not in a single fight - this can do many, but in a season - we will see, but I guess in this season he will keep his first place till season end ... in the next season the cards will be mixed again.

Nothing is cast in stone forever. I guess that the more popular Splinterlands is becoming the more creative concurrents will be testing new ideas to improve their playing skills.

Yes in the moment he has problems in the leaderboard, "only" at position 4 in the moment and 256 wins in 359 is very good but last season with 293 wins in 375 battles was much better win-rate.

The th-bots have adapted to the new cards now. :)

Ehre wem Ehre gebührt. Der Abstand ist aber schon fast kriminell!

Ja, das ist schon äußerst erstaunlich.

Awesome Splinterlands post! I sure do wish I knew how to code but I don't! I have to battle so hard to try and stay in the top 50, lol! An upvote is on the way from Steem Monsters!

Thanks a lot!!

How funny that my acct is used as an example in another post. :) Since it was a tourney, it wasn't me playing against bji. My account would lose most of the time since I don't have all the cards, but even if I did, I would still likely lose.

He does have all the cards, and plays both offense and defense. Just a good player overall! I have no clue on scripts and all that but a player has to be extremely good to get all these consecutive wins.

Since it was a tourney, it wasn't me playing against bji.

Don't worry, there is no need for justification. Everybody knows that you are a great player, and of course you are able to beat @bji1203 in single matches. :)

I know myself how it feels not to own some urgently needed cards in certain decisive situations. For example I am lacking four out of five two mana summoners at max level (and Prince Julian anyway), and concerning the five mana summoners I only own Prince Rennyn and The Peakrider at max level. Furthermore my fire and water splinters are rather weak ...

To choose your game (which you even didn't play yourself) was pure coincidence.

However, considering his over all performance, I think that currently @bji1203 is simply the best Splinterlands player.

I would have lost to him even if it was me playing! :)

I didn't even realize you don't have those cards. Your Peakrider is goldfoil though so definitely awesome for gf tourneys!

I feel the pain about the cards though. I made do in rank without any of the legendary summoners for the past seasons, but decided to treat myself to rennyn and val this year. Streak winning is important in making it in top 50 and it's simply hard to do that without all the cards. Not impossible, but definitely hard. There are some rules I know are auto-losses without having the cards.

I don't mind being randomly chosen. I just thought it funny since Matt selected a match between him and me in one of the post about development update. :)

Good luck with season end!

Yes, from the beginning I specialized on gold foil tournaments, however, nowadays there are quite some players with way more complete gold decks than mine.

You are just so popular ... be happy about it. ;-)

Good luck with season end!

Thanks, mine was bad, but congrats to your high final rank!
