Hello everyone, good evening everyone from @steemmonsters, @battlegames and @steem-ace

I made this story to participate in the SteemMonsters short story contest. Hope you like it. Its name is:

Cocatrice - The Queen of Pitaya Dragons

It is said that long ago, when there were only volcanoes and huge plains, dragons reigned in the midst of fire and smoke, just because they had to reign. There were dragons of countless types of fire, those of ice, that began to appear as the temperature began to drop at the poles, earth and water. All a matter of adaptations and natural selection, it is not yet known who the primordial dragon was, perhaps there were none… but this is history for another tale.

Their routine didn't vary much. To reign. Try to take another's kingdom. Give up and form a more peaceful society. But. Changes were on their way… probably everyone has heard the phrase “you can't eat watermelon seed but a watermelon will grow in your belly”, and probably lived long enough to risk eating a watermelon seed and seeing that this is unfounded . In humans. This phrase began in the time of dragons, for a very simple reason. The watermelons that existed in their time were different, had extreme survival characteristics. If a dragon ate a watermelon with seeds… well, the consequences would be unpredictable.

It was mating season, and a couple of earth dragons were thinking of having young, especially with the encouragement of the leading dragon at the time ... so far, no problem. The problem was that the lady dragon of the land had eaten a fruit salad before. And swallowed a watermelon seed, which was half hidden, so could not see it to take it. Little did the unwary fathers of the earth know that a completely new species was about to emerge…

The mother dragon's gestation was common, though perhaps with an over-desire for vegetables, but without many differences. When the time came for the new born baby dragon, she retreated to a secluded corner. To respect the mother dragon's privacy and memory, the situation will not be described, so we will go straight to the postpartum part. Looking at the baby dragon, the dragon mother already had a bad feeling. He was not any shade of brown common to them, but a hyper-delicate pale green, with shades of pink on the thorns of his back. He took the young dragon baby running for the dragon father to see and they called a dragon expert to find out what might have happened.

It was a difficult time for parents to hear that no one knew what was wrong with the young baby dragon. So they decided to let it go and see what happened. They named it Pitaya, which meant “scale” on their tongue, precisely because of the strange pink scales with which it was born. She grew fast, with an incredible agility that surpassed that of the rest of the earth's dragons and a shade of green that allowed her to camouflage herself in the plants in the hide and seek games. Even so, it was not well accepted by the rest of the dragons of the earth and decided to leave the kingdom.

She explored the world, met several different species of dragons, but none like her. And talking to an old water dragon, he warned her of a possible attack or kidnapping of the fire dragons that might want to use her for unacceptable or enjoyable experiments. They, after all, loved to move with fire. And it was time for her to learn to defend herself if she wanted to continue exploring the world.

She learned. With several masters of various species. Always changing locations, always going to explore the unknown.

At some point, after millennia of study and training, she came to the conclusion that it should be of another kind. One new. And so he would not submit to any of the kingdoms, would create his own. Of course it would be lonely at first, but do what.

While searching for a piece of the huge plain that was the world that was far from the water, but not so much, and where they grew a little strange plants that stored water, which the dragons of the earth called cacti, he met a young dragon of the earth that had come out. of the kingdom to explore. It was the first dragon who had really looked at her as an equal, so Pitaya, who thought herself a well-caught dragon girl, began to take an interest in him. Also to keep young Pitaya's privacy, let's skip sections of the story to the moment the young dragon boy proposed to her. Which was pretty simple, since there was no one else in her kingdom.

When it came time to decide to have puppies, Pitaya was afraid that he might raise another new species, but even so, he risked, fortunately, or just because of dominant genes, all of Pitaya's sons and the Young Dragon lord were born green. One less born brown, just like a common dragon. Now Queen Pitaya's kingdom really began.
After a few more millennia and new couples formed with different species of dragons who went on exploring the world and ended up in the kingdom of Pitaya, various varieties of dragons were born… but by that point Pitaya had already decided what to call his species.

The Dragons Plant.

With various kinds of colors, styles, but still possessing the characteristics of Pitaya, his kingdom was being populated, and expanded. And she reigned for a long, long time. Until the end of the dragon age, which migrated to the moon and adjacent planets, to vary the environment. Those who did not migrate became mountains. To wait until the next dragon age came back. Pitaya, as a good queen, was one of those who stayed. Its seeds and roots spreading across a patch of western plains, and spawning a cactus that bore beautiful fruit, some red, some yellow and some white, but all with the beautiful rose of the Dragon Queen, and the kiwi seeds she had eaten. before turning mountain.

And that is why, until today there is a fruit called Pitaya, the dragon fruit, named after the Queen of Dragons Plant that reigned for so long, and serves as a reminder to wait for the next dragon age and Pitaya to return. .
