Splinterlands New Reward System

I've not been terribly impressed with the new reward system, but I think it's probably a necessary step, and good for the long term health of the game. Reward cards were being burned through too quickly. If, and this is the big question having over the future of the game, they can find a way to make the jump past the crypto audience and find footing in the general public, this was unsustainable.

As you'll see from the screenshots below, it has dramatically reduced the amount of reward cards that are being issued. In theory, this should make reward cards more valuable, but also harder to level up. At the same time, the amount of DEC being issued has increased, which, of course will drive down the price of DEC, assuming the same number of players. So it all comes back to getting more players. These moves are clearly designed to make the game successful in a world where the player base is greatly expanded. I hope that can achieve their goals.

With all that in mind, let's see what my rewards have looked like lately. It started out pretty normal, with just one card being replaced by some potion charges.

But since then I haven't been getting very many reward cards at all.

The good thing about this system is that potion charges will now last a lot longer, since I'm opening less cards. The extra DEC is also a benefit to me, since I've been using earned DEC to buy more cards, so now it should take less time to earn enough for a pack. So in the short term, the changes have hurt me a bit. Less reward cards means I can't level up the cards, which makes me less successful in the game. But I really think these changes were necessary if we get the massive influx of new players they're trying for.
