Splinterlands - Update on my Alt Account

Things seem to have turned around a bit for my alt account. It started with the end of season rewards, where I pulled these:

Not only the Epic Manticore, but more importantly, it was mostly cards. Usable, useful cards that can help me win my daily quests. And if I ever get a dragon splinter quest, the Manticore will be a big help. Then a couple days later, I got another stroke of good luck. I got a gold card in my daily quest. It's not a very good gold, but it's gold nonetheless.

I immediately listed it on the market, and the next morning found myself with some extra DEC from the sale. My current thought is to see what my daily quest is, then use my accumulated DEC to beef up that splinter with affordable Common and maybe Rare cards. Today was my first day to test this plan, and I drew a Blue quest. I bought a Genie and a Windmaster, because they seemed cheap and useful. I'm not convinced in the value of the Windmaster at lower levels of play, but we'll see how it goes. I thought about buying a Crustacean, but decided it was too expensive right now. I need to save some DEC for the other splinters.

I also bought a Chicken, a Creeping Ooze, and a Gelatinous Cube in neutral cards. The Chicken and the Ooze were no-brainers because of the low mana cost and low DEC cost to purchase. The Cube was cheap to buy, but is only useful in certain situations: high mana, "No Melee" or "Target Practice" battles seem like ideal conditions to bust this card out.

The new cards definitely helped me finish my quest today, but it was still not easy. I'm now in a situation where I'm getting outcarded. Playing in Bronze, I'm facing monsters and summoners that are greater than my max level, so I have to rely on skill instead of overpowering anyone. But I'm trying to get as high as I can to get as many rewards as I can. I still don't see a path FW to higher summoners, however that should probably be my ultimate end goal.

Also, I was initially hesitant to purchase reward cards, as there's a chance I will get them in my daily rewards. Duplicate cards do me absolutely no good, since I only have, and will likely only ever have, level 1 summoners. All my monsters max out at level 1, so combining them is a waste. I eventually decided that the benefit of having the card outweighed the possible duplication. If I end up with multiple copies of the same card, I can always sell them on the market.
