Post Season Splinterlands - The Grind

Well, I really don't think that I am the only one. After a season, you will realise that your Tier will drop quite a significant amount. For me, I dropped from Silver 2 all the way to Bronze 1. I am very sure the natural response for all would be to, quickly climb back up to your original tier, and then you will suddenly realise something...

WHY IS IT SO DARN BLOODY HARD??? Yes, I don't think I am the only one here that is experiencing this only. For starters, I even dropped to Bronze 2 while attempting to climb back up! Everyone has the mentality of climbing back, due to the obvious reason of difference in Daily Quest rewards (which can be a really huge difference). The Daily Quest for Bronze 1 is 1 Chest, Silver 3 is 2 Chest, and Silver 2 is 3 Chest. Seems like just a chest right? But if you realise, by making it to Silver 2, your amount of chest opened is equivalent to 3 days of Bronze 1. So yes, it does make a huge difference actually.

And with this mentality, everyone strives to get back to their original tier, bringing out the problems. The lower tiers are flooded with insane players with crazy cards. For starters, I am seeing tons of Zaku, Llama + Kron combo and so on. It seems as though suddenly, everyone but me has tons of Legendary cards!

It took me literally 3 days to reach back to the original tier I was at, painstakingly. And even after a complete day of recovering, my ECR is at 32% only.

Though SPL is a play to earn, it definitely ain't as easy as just playing. The mechanics behind this game is so advanced, it really favours those who really try to think through what they are doing. Really fascinating game. If you have not tried it, do feel free to sign up with my referral link!

Hey @cryptopsycho21 ! Thank you for being active in my space here! Do follow if you find the materials useful.

Anyway, I presume you are at Silver as well, but drop back down to Bronze and now Bronze 3? If it is, I do have some tips for you. I followed these tips well and it got me back up. Do lemme know and I will be more than happy to share with you!

Much appreciated, my friend. Bronze 3 is the highest I can get to. So for the new season, I drop to novice.

Hi @cryptopsycho21 , hey I went to your space and saw that you are from Taiwan! Haha. Been such a long time since I last visited there, really miss my vacation there!

Anyway, I am not sure about Bronze 3, but I did spend some time in Bronze 2 and Bronze 1 the last 2-3 days. May I know what is your in game name? Cause I can't seem to see the deck of cards that you are using. Also, I realised that most of the enemies I face are all bots! So one good way is really to see the past lineups that they use before any battle. What I tend to do is, there is 3min for us to input the battles. I would use the first 30s - 1min to see what kind of user are they. For instance, if there is a Mylor Cowling summoner and we can use the Earth Splinter, even if the match conditions stated "Melee" I would tend to use Magic monsters and ranged monsters just to avoid the Mylor. Normally, the enemies regardless of bots and or humans, they would also have a habit and a preference. By glancing the past 5 matches that they play, we will be able to have a sense of what kind of monsters and strategy they are using. Fortunately, our level is still rather low meaning that the opponent do no have a lot of cards, meaning that the number of strategies that they have to use are very limited. So I do have a few that I really like. But at the same time when I am having a losing streak, I will glance at the opponent's past lineup and it really helps a lot!

Thanks. You’re advice is very sound. I have mostly ghost cards and a few good ones. My name is cryptopsycho021. Where were you in Taiwan?

Anyway I really enjoy the concept of splinterlands. I also invested a little to get the air drop. Do you do this?

How did You know you were battling bots? Is that allowed?

Sorry so many questions:)

Thats ok, please feel free to ask. I will try to answer them to the best of my ability and knowledge. In fact, I reached where I am right now because of a lot of help from different people, so will be more than happy if I can be of help.

Nope, I am from Singapore, so I do speak Chinese and "Tai Yu" as well. And I do have a couple of friends from Taiwan whom have helped me a lot when I was on exchange last time.

Nah, I am still a student so I cannot afford to put in more money into the game. However, I started around June/July this year so that really helped a bit in terms of the airdrop. To increase your airdrops, you have to hold assets. This can be DEC, the cards, or even SPT tokens which you can earn just from blogging! If you need help with that, feel free to let me know.

I am not sure, but I believe bots are allowed. Normally when you see the names, you can see that they are bots, Just play a little longer and you roughly would be able to figure out who are bots and who are not.

Now I went to check your cards. Quite curious when you started the game do they lend you some stock cards? Like stock summoners and all? Cause I cannot see them. If you have those stock cards, I might be able to share a bit of strategies with you for some easy wins.

Honestly, your cards are slightly scattered. You have an insanely strong Mylor Summoner, so whenever there are "Melee" only conditions, please use that it will very likely ensure your victory. I saw your level 3 Gold Foil Pelacor Deceiver, but I am afraid just that monster alone wont be able to help you much. You might want to try focusing on your earth Splinter, your Mylor is very strong.

Also if you are interested, there are other games as well that can help you earn. Now I am playing Rising Star. So this game is free to play, and you only need to click buttons once every 5min or so depending on missions. The in game currency you earn from that game can be used for Splinterlands. What I do is I will earn and sell the Starbits (their in game currency) and use the profits to buy DEC, which allows me to buy monsters in Splinterlands. So if you wish, it can help you grow faster in Splinterlands as well. I have attached a link to the game below. It works on Hive as well, you can explore if you are interested

Thank you again. I will keep in touch. Since I stake SPS I do have early voucher to buy a card. If you’re interested I’ll send it to you. Just give me your game name. I really appreciate your time and advice.

I’ll also try the other game. I’m out of my Office until Monday, so I’ll probably try the game then.

Thanks.

Hi @cryptopsycho21 , thank you for the generosity! But no worries, you keep the vouchers! In fact, you should get one of the Chaos Legion Packs if you can. You never know, if you open up a really good monster you will be soaring through your tier with relative ease. And even if you do not intend to buy the packs with your vouchers, by chance do you have Hive Engine? Sign in with your Hive Account, and you can sell your vouchers! As of today, the voucher stands at around USD$19. So if you do not intend to use it, maybe you can sell it? In fact, many of them actually sell the vouchers before buying the packs directly there as well, as it is much cheaper! Just in case you do not have any Hive Engine, here is the link to it!

I signed up for Rising star from your link. There wasn't anywhere to write your name, so I'm guessing that it's all linked through the hive. I had another question for you about powering up. I noticed that at the beginning of the month, Ecency has a power-up special. What does powering up mean? It is only for Ecency or for Hive, too. Thanks.

Hey thanks for using the link. Yea I believe it should be linked!

I wish I can help you with the 2nd question, but I too am quite unsure. But what I know is this. If you look at your wallet, there would be Hive (which they sometimes refer to as liquid Hive) as well HBD. Now this month will be the first month that I am taking part in the Hive Power Up Special too! So we can both explore this together! All I know is my mentors are doing it, so there is absolutely no doubt this would be a bad idea. What I am doing is I am trying to convert my HBD to liquid Hive, in preparation for the 1st of next month where the event starts.

Now powering up gives you more Resource Credits (RC), which allows you to post more things on your page. Now for me I am quite active here, so I really need the RC. Nevertheless, RC also provides many other help. I know it also gives you more voting power. So tell you what, though I am not sure, but let us explore this together on 1st Dec! Let's see what will it bring us, and let us share what we learnt ok? =)

I’m in the same boat with you. Loss after loss after loss. It’s really getting me pissed. Good that people are playing but infuriating to constantly lose because people rent maxed cards.

Hey welcome to my space my dear mentor! hahaha. Yes, it sure is infuriating. What's worse is that at my levels, its mostly filled with bots so it gets more irritating. Nevertheless, I presume your drop in tier will still keep you at a high level! So very likely different set of problems we are facing!

I am having exams now, and this game is suppose to help me unwind. It is making me more agitated! Hahahahaha

yo @cmplxty and @rayius ...i was trying to post in the gild chat today but it wasn't working. I was watching steveR82's vid and he mentioned that the game isn't worth playing if the DEC capture rate is less than 85%. Do either of you know the mechanics of why that would be?

Yeah the guild chat is funky sometimes! I personally don't like to play the game when my DEC capture rate is below 75% since it means I'm earning less DEC than I should however I offset that when it comes to daily quests. One requirement I have is I need to finish my quest. If I don't then I play until I do, and whatever my capture rate falls to I let it be.

I kept getting crushed last night so I played way longer than I should have, considering my DEC capture rate fell far below 75%.

I don't think it would mean not playing when it's below 85% if you still have a daily quest to do but I balance my gaming with other duties. If someone is a diehard Splinterlands-as-a-job player yeah sure, it's not worth as much playing below 85% but for normal people, anything above 70% is acceptable to me.

Hi @sagesigma! Wah, I must share that I am so deeply honoured that you quoted me alongside an experienced player like @cmplxty , you seriously made my day! Hahahha. Ok do pardon me for being a tat too geeky. I am an Economics student, so yea you kind of expected it! Haha. Actually, my goal for this game is the profitability on top of the leisure aspect. That being the case, similar to @cmplxty I do have some rules.

  1. The potential ROI for the Daily Chest is way too high. So no matter what it takes, I will try to reach the highest tier possible and get the highest amount of Chest possible. 1 Legend or GF card is equivalent to the DEC from hundreds of matches

  2. I tend to apply delayed gratification. So this is how it goes, if I can reach my highest tier, I will only play the matches when my ECR is 95%-99%. At all times, it should ideally be in this range. Figured out that the effort spent (both time and mental capacity required) for one match is the same regardless of the ECR. However, if waiting 10hrs means that the DEC I can earn from a match is 15DEC instead of 10DEC, I would gladly do so. How I view it is that at the end of the day, I still play the same number of matches, just that it is at a later time of the day. So typically, I will only play around 5 times each time, before I go for a break/work/study and so on.

This way, I get to maximise the amount of DEC earned in what I felt to be the most efficient way. I guess if your break/work/study will be in intervals of hours, then probably you can afford to play more matches each time so your ideal ECR will be probably 90%-99%. For me my intervals are shorter so I will ideally keep it in the band of 95%-99%

You're getting better at the game Ray, that's for sure! I think you're a smart guy so it's good that you're delving into the game as much as you are. I think these are good calculations and ideas for what you do to maximize your DEC rewards. Sadly, trying to achieve higher leagues is one of the banes of playing lol. Always looking to aim higher!

I realized I forgot to respond back about HBD, sorry!

For HBD, it's a second internal currency of Hive so that the price of the Hive token can't plummet so far from being the only reward. The HBD token takes a bunch of the blow as well, so it's really a great mechanism.

It's best for now to convert the HBD to Hive. If you are using PeakD you can easily convert it by clicking the drop down arrow next to it and click "Convert to Hive"

image.png

I don't have any liquid HBD right now so I just used the screenshot from my liquid Hive. The principle works the same though! You can convert it to hive and it will average the price of Hive over 3 days versus the price of HBD and give you a percentage of Hive based on the HBD you convert. Right now since we are so close to 1$ Hive, you will get about 1:1 of HBD > Hive. The lower the price of Hive goes, the more Hive you get when you convert HBD is the theory. For example when Hive was .75 1 HBD could get you 1.25 Hive theoretically.

Converting HBD to Hive takes 3 days so it's not instant but it's good so you can get some liquid Hive to spend or power up. Transferring the HBD to savings is also a great idea, I see you've got quite a bit in there now which is great! Keep that in there for sure. The interest on the HBD is awesome and definitely an important part of the incentive to keep HBD long term and not hurt the price of Hive too much.

Thanks @cmplxty , I haven't been called smart for eons! Hahahhaa.

I see! I guess probably I will start to convert the HBD to Hive, and wait for 9 more days for the next Power Up time! Hope I don't mess up as that will be the first time I power up! Hahaha.

I am actually trying to weight the pros and cons, as the HBD in savings actually do give a small portion of APR

Yeah the way I think of HBD is that I store half the HBD I earn from post rewards in my savings and the other half I convert to liquid hive. It’s a good balance because we can always use the additional hive to power up but we can also use the interest from the savings account!

Just my concept, you can figure out what works best for you!

hey thats a good idea! probably when my exams are over, will run some data simulations on the figures, to see which gives a higher ROI! Hahaha

Yeah it’s a good idea for sure. Having more hive power is increasingly important so that’s why I opt to do at least half. I’ve been cashing out some rewards on Splinterlands so I’ve been able to supplement the additional hive with that. Hoping to power up 3-400 hive for December!
