Hooked on SPLINTERLANDS: Lessons Learned So Far - [steem] [blockchain] [games]

Making Gold League III Again

My journey into the SPLINTERLANDS started sometime in mid-November, so I am relatively new to the game. In fact I am completely new to the world of trading or playing cards, and only recently took the plunge after seeing @aggroed 's speech online at Steemfest recently. It was such an inspiring talk with such a positive message in regards to the future of Steem and blockchain games that it motivated me enough to become exploring this side of blockchain technology; online games.

Since playing I have learned that there are "Seasons" in the game. Each Season has 15 days in which you must battle your way up the ranks. At the end of each Season, depending on the rank or League you reach, you will be rewards with a certain amount of cards, but you will also be dropped in rank(league) in order to battle back up again at the start of the new season. Another perk about reaching higher ranks is that when you complete a quest, you are rewarded with more cards after completing each.

Novive Get 0, Bronze 5-9 Reward Cards, Gold League 22-30, Champion League 80-150

So the goal is to reach as high a league as you can battle your way into, but of course your opponents are there to make sure they get there first before you do. One simple and free trick that I am starting to understand, is that when a season ends, and every player gets "demoted" down, there are more players with higher Level cards to battle against. This season I did battle quite a bit, and at times it felt like I was spinning my wheels because I was constantly battling players with monsters at higher levels.

Then as the Season progressed, and those players with higher level monsters began climbing up into the higher leagues, I began to win more battles and also climb in the ranks. It also became easier to complete my quests as my quests came up. So I recommend for those of us that don't have very high leveled monsters or summoners, to wait it out a little after a season first starts up. Just try to complete your quests as they come up without forcing it, and then as the Season progresses along, you will start to battle others more on your level, and thus making it easier to climb the ranks of SPLINTERLANDS, with the eventual goal of one day making CHAMPION'S LEAGUE.

One can dream they say.

Oh and I also learned to correctly spell the name of my favorite SPLINTERLAND'S Summoner, ALRIC STORMBRINGER that I drew for the SPLINTERLANDS ART CONTEST WEEK 66. by @splinterlands .

Hello @slobberchops How are you? I did notice some players with similar sounding names so I figured there were some on here with multiple accounts. I am sure eventually we shall meet if I intend to reach higher leagues.

Now that I have your ear, I did also notice that you are selling some steemmonsters. My question is what makes one similar card worth more over the same card, and in some cases a whole lot more? Is it because they are like "genesis" type cards, and if so, how or where do you see that info?

Also, when combining cards for leveling up, is there something to look out for or pay attention too? I guess this would tie in with the previous question of there being some sort of digital pedigree to the cards.

thank you for your time, guidance and support.

My accounts all have very different names, so there you wont know who I am hehe.., and they are at different levels. Some in the silver league, I'm surprised I haven't seen you yet.

My question is what makes one similar card worth more over the same card, and in some cases a whole lot more? Is it because they are like "genesis" type cards, and if so, how or where do you see that info?

It's all about the strength of card and how useful it is. Beta's are still played a lot more than Untamed as there are more around and more levelled up.

Untamed take more combines to get your cards to the mid levels where a lot of players settle.

I'm not sure what you mean by #genesis# cards, I sell only cards that I have too many of and they are generally reward cards.

If you can give me some examples of a high seller vs a low.. I can probably help?

Ah that.., it's someone taking the piss! Your can put a used condom on ebay for $1000 too but it's never gonna sell!

Just reverse the filter and buy the cheapest!

hehehehe... ok that is what I do, set the price list high to low, go down to the lowest, and in some case I have bought up all the lowest priced ones until the next level price up, figuring that if I buy those up, they are now at least worth what is left at the lowest price. What do you think of this strategy?

as for "genesis" I believe in cryptokitties there something like that... so when combining or breeding cryptokitties, their digital pedigree matters.... I have never played that game but understand that it works something like that.

So there is nothing like that in Splinterlands?

I never played or collected those, they seemed too cute and a fad. I don't think there's anything similar in Splinterlands.

@aggroed talked to me about crafting a long time ago, it's not here yet but that may be something similar in the future.
