Really Starting To Get Into HIVE Gaming.

Looks like HIVE is going to make a gamer out of me. I started off playing Splinterlands. I think that was a couple years ago. @steevc got me started on Risingstar and I just started a Dcity account earlier in the week.

I started playing these games for fun, but I inadvertently realized that there is actually a bit of opportunity with these games. In this post I'd like to talk a little about these games and the opportunity they create.

Splinterlands has been a really fun game to play over the last couple years. It's basically an online card game like Magic The Gathering. At least that's what I've been told, I've never played Magic The Gathering so I wouldn't know first hand.

I took a short break for a few months but for the most part I've played close to daily over the course of a couple years. I do a daily quest to earn rewards and the rewards have really built up over time. In each quest you're able to earn game pieces and game currency.

I currently have over 209 cards most of them are level 4 and level 5 cards. My most powerful summoner is level 5. Unless you play the game that's all jibberish to you. In layman's terms I've earned over 200 cards and built a fairly decent deck. I also earn DEC which is in game currency that you can use to buy more cards and other in game extras... That's actually the part of this that's important and I'll explain more about this shortly. To summarize this you can earn a HIVE token that acts as in game currency called DEC in Splinterlands.

A few months back my friend @steevc introduced me to a game called RisingStar. I guess you could call it an RPG meets NFT card game. The theme of the game is you're a musician starting out as a lowly busker earning money as a street musician trying to climb your way through the ranks and become a super star. You can earn cards in the game and also buy them. With each finished mission you also earn Starbits which act as this games currency. So now we have one game paying in Starbits and the other game paying in DEC.

So now we have two games that we're earning cards and in game currency from. This brings me to the third game dCity. This is like a simm city type game. Like the other two games you can buy and earn game pieces or cards that help build a city. One card might be a hospital, another a police station, a beer factory etc. As you're city grows so does your population. The goal of the game is to balance all your citizens, with jobs, and municipalities like basic government. In this game you also earn SIMM which is the currency of the game. I'm going to dive more into this game in another post, because there are a lot of cool features that help you earn other tokens as well like WEED and BEER tokens.

I just started dCity about 3 days ago and I'm already earning 20 SIMM per day. I"m not planning on retiring anytime soon off these winnings but hey it's a start!

You can get started with RisingStar without having to buy anything. I think a Splinterlands starter pack costs $10 to get started and dCITY doesn't cost anything but you're going to have to buy some cards to get started.

I'm in crypto long term and my strategy towards these games has been long term. Basically I make a small investment into each game at the start then just keep reinvesting the earnings back into the games. Once the game is built up, you can choose to cash out your earnings or keep reinvesting into the game growing your future earnings. Sooner or later I'd like to look at the value of my Splinterlands deck. I'm guessing it's worth several hundred dollars and I haven't checked it because I don't want to be tempted to sell it.

Now once you get started you can invest as much or as little as you want in each game. Obviously the more you invest in the game the faster you will grow. Eventually, you can get these games to start earning crypto for you.

I think the other cool thing about this is that you can convert your in game currency like Starbits, SIMM and DEC into HIVE using a HIVE dex like LEOdex. You can also use token earnings from one game, convert them to HIVE and invest in other games currency or just invest in other games. For instance I took 25000 Starbits converted them into HIVE then purchased some stuff for my Dcity game.

If you research these games on Hive you can discover all kinds of strategies people are using to earn crypto with these games. This isn't a get rich quick scheme and
if you don't like gaming, this probably isn't for you. The amount you earn is minimal to the investment but over time it all adds up. I've seen a couple people with really prosperous dCity games. If you enjoy gaming, there is an opportunity here to get rewarded a little extra cryptocurrency over time. On top of that you're also building each game and all the game pieces actually have value. You can resell your Splinterlands, dCITY and RisingStar cards later if you want.

Gaming might be the killer use case for Hive! The games are thriving, even more than the social apps!

I've noticed that too and have thought the same thing. It certainly looks that way.

It's good to see more gaming options on Hive. Some are free to play, but they have to be careful to avoid being exploited. I've been following that with Rising Star. You have to be more strategic now instead of just clicking all day.

Splinterlands has a long-standing bug that means the summoners do not show up in battles if you use Linux. I still play most days to try and build up my deck.

I've not played Dcity yet, but I am not sure I want to get into any more games for now.

I could potentially sell the cards I have in the games for a nice amount, but I plan to hold onto most for a while. I am trying to sell one nice gold in Splinterlands as I wouldn't use it in battle and it could fund some upgrades.

You have to be really strategic with RisingStar lately. I haven't gotten pizza in days!

The Splinterland's summoner bug is also on Chromebook. I noticed that awhile ago. It seems the Brave browser fixes that though running on either Chromebook or Linux. Here's a screenshot from my Kubuntu laptop playing in Brave browser.

I used to just get blank boxes here.

Here's during game play. Notice I'm still stuck in the Bothole hell. I love that name though, cracks me up every time I see it! Damn Botholes!

dCity has been a lot of fun I could see it being a bigger initial investment to start with a decent strategy, but seems to consume the least amount of time of all of them. I generally check in once a night before bed just to see if there is any crime or the arrival of new citizens. I'm still working out a strategy for that game but it has been a lot of fun learning it so far.

I love my Splinterlands cards, I have a hard time selling any of them. I think I'll be pretty surprised when I finally look into what my deck is worth. For now I just want to keep on collecting and playing and not be tempted!

Cheers!

I'm running Brave on Ubuntu and still have that bug. I've been battling enminer bots a lot recently. I think they consolidated some accounts. Sometimes I beat them.

Welcome to the guild! I don't like selling cards either, but then I don't want to spend much on the game. I may save up tokens to get at least one plot of land though.
