"Splinterlands" + "Drug Wars" -- Power Strategy Tips #41

As I have now been playing "Splinterlands" (formerly called "Steem Monsters") and Drug Wars for several months, I've wanted to contribute something of ACTIONABLE value to my fellow players (and FUTURE players) - but NOT just fill my Steemit feed with daily images of quest reward - or battle - SPAM, (no offense to those doing so). Ultimately, Steemit is about ADDING VALUE to the social experience - that is the magic of blockchain social media technology. So, after some serious pondering, I decided that a weekly "Splinterlands + "Drugs Wars" player strategy diary" type series, with CONCISE and ACTIONABLE tips, would be of most value to my audience. Please let me know your thoughts (good and/or bad), and I hope that readers (now and into the future) will benefit from this series. If you gain a better understanding of blockchain, gaming, "blockchain gaming", marketing, and/or any other area of knowledge I end up exploring as this series naturally progresses, then I will have done my "good deed" (of providing value) for the week. Also, feel free to hit me up on the battlefield.

( 1 ) At the very end (last line) of the final daily player activity entry in the previous post (for the day of January 25th, 2020) I included the following information:

Grand Total Of Daily Earnings From All Days = $10.43 / 10 (days) = ~ $1.04 USD/day

Being able to calculate the information resulting in this line, and start including it in the weekly posts, is a major step forward, and a sign of achievement of my goal (for the past month or so) of "quantifying my daily earnings, and figuring out a monthly amount of DEC to convert to Steem to then buy ANOTHER cryptocurrency (not including my now weekly Tron purchase)). With an ACTUAL FIGURE ( of $1.04 USD/day for last week) I can now begin working the numbers (for example, $1.04/day x 30 days = $31.20 USD/month). Having this more "hard figure" now make it easier for me to decide how much of this monthy amount to allocate towards buying another crypto. Although my preference is to buy back some BTC each month, at the current value of Bitcoin ($8,346 USD (CoinGecko quote) - as of writing this sentence), even the FULL $31.20 would buy a mere 0.0038 Bitcoin - and HALF of the monthly Steem income of $31.20 USD would buy a mere 0.0019 Bitcoin. And EVEN IF Bitcoin goes "to the moon" I just don't feel like progress is being made buying such a small amount of BTC each month. So, based on these numbers, and ratios, I have decided that until/unless my monthly DEC/Steem earnings go up substantially, it's probably best to find a CHEAPER crypto to buy for the monthly purchase. One which makes immediate sense is Tron, since the price is so low (relative to Steem), and Tron is increasingly being integrated into the game (for instance, you can withdraw DEC right into your TronLink wallet and then convert DEC to Tron at https://trontrade.io , and I am already making weekly purchases of Tron. The price of Tron relative to Steem is like 1/10th ( ex. Tron equals 1 Steem), and so buying Tron with Steem will give me more of a sense of progress with each progressive purchase. The monthly purchase could be a nice, LARGER, "booster" purchase each month, compared to the weekly purchase (using the value of the SP earned from these posts). I will continue monitoring the news coming in about Tron. They are making some serious moves lately, and they have a thriving dApp system, which as I am learning, offers numerous ways to earn (and win) more crypto, and so I think the potential for hold and using Tron (by selling Steem/DEC for Tron) will be significant. My task this week will be to watch some of the very informative YouTube videos about the Tron dApps, like the following recent video that th "Dapp Center" YouTube channel is putting out:

TOP 10 TRON DAPPS GOING INTO 2020!

2 ) My original buy order for 2650 DEC worth of Tron (TRX) for ~ 0.059999 DEC/TRX did NOT fill within a few days of placing the order this week, and it appears that any time you place an order you pay fees (which are small, but a good reason to try NOT to cancel orders). So what I did was place an ADDITIONAL simultaneous order for the same amount of DEC (2650 DEC) but for the price of 0.044 DEC/TRX. I have monitored the status of these two orders throughout the week to see IF they go through, and if so, how long they take. If the orders aren't filled by the time I am ready to publish this (new weekly) post I will decide on a different strategy to complete the sell of DEC for TRX. Fingers crossed.

[UPDATE: One of the original orders (the second one for 0.044 mentioned above) went through within around 24 hours of placing it, and so I cancelled the second order, which also left 2,700 DEC in my TronLInk account, which I planned to use for the next week's purchase. In fact, on the day of publishing this post I got the payout for the previous week's post, with 14 Steem worth of SP, which equates to roughly 3,400 DEC (mainly because of the rise of the value in Steem in relation to DEC this past week). But since I only have 2,700 DEC remaining in my TronLink account, and am low on overall DEC liquidity (another good argument for keeping proper DEC liquidity), I decided to simply use the remaining 2,700 DEC in my TronLink account to buy Tron this week. I put in a "DEC for Tron" sell order for 2,700 DEC at the price of 0.03899 which will buy me 105.273 Tron, and will update the readers on whether or not that went through, along with my current Tron balance after the sell, in the next post of this series. I may include this information in each future post, along with some "current news" about Tron which reinforces my decision to spend the SP value of each payout of this series (converted to DEC and transferred to my TronLink wallet) to buy Tron. I believe, more and more, over time, that Tron is a solid long-term crypto investment.

[UPDATE #2] The new sell of 2,700 for Tron did indeed go through on the day of publishing this post, and my balance is now ~ 221 Tron after two weeks of buys using the SP payouts of the posts in this series. PLUS the price of Tron has made a significant increase this week, AND I am getting some airdropped Tron tokens every few days, which was part of the reason why I originally decided to specifically buy Tron with the DEC earnings.

3 ) My main fellow "Drug Wars" gang member who has been working on the daily "gang jobs" provided me some of his expertise in the form of the number of units he believed would be needed to successfully start doing the first level solo job, and the good news is that upon taking his advice (which was to use 100 "mama" units" and 75 "mercenary" units" I was able to complete the first job with the loss of only around 13 "mama" units. I then immediately did one upgrade of as many "defense" buildings as I could, as well as recruiting the number of "mama" units I lost PLUS an additional "cluster" of 25 "mama" units, in the hope that by progressively adding more units in a gradual/cautious manner, I would be able to do the maximum 9 jobs per day, AS WELL AS gradually work up the ranks to the higher level job. I have spent the week on this task of doing up to 9 jobs, of gradually increasing levels, and gradually upgrading my defense building levels in the hope that if/when I do get attacked the loss of battle units will be less, and I will be able to bounce back to doing the first level solo jobs as soon as possible, in order to keep the stream of resources from the daily jobs flowing in as smoothly/continuously as possible. The additional mega-boost of resources frm (now) TWO of the top gang members doing two or more gang jobs per day is greatly accelerating my ability to upgrade the defense units, and recruit new fighters, in order to move up to the higher level jobs, In fact, on the day of publishing this post I have worked up to the FOURTH job level, which pays out over over 1 million of each resource, which can then be used to upgrade everything.

Screenshot (1790).png

The most interesting thing is that, whereas two weeks ago I was just about ready to take "Drug Wars" out of the title of this series post, I am now back on track, and THRIVING in the game, and this is primarily due to the gang members helping me get back on track. I was also ready to ditch my Drug wars daily play and start focusing Prospectors instead. And while I have kept some BASIC activity going daily on Prospectors, what I have learned in the past two weeks is that the lack of a strong community (on Prospectors compared to Drug Wars), AND the lack of "easy" transfer of external crypto into the game (compared to Drug Wars, which requires a few clicks to withdraw DWD into @steem-engine, which can then be converted to DEC in a few clicks, and then used to buy cards, or buy Tron on TronTrade.io, etc.) have awoken me to the value of these features. And although I still have some reservations about the Drug Wars game (ex. general lack of "immersive" game-play, sub-par level of communication, lack of reach on wider social media, etc.) I think that, EVEN at this time, the game has value partially for game play and earning DWD, but ESPECIALLY as a "training ground" for blockchain gaming, as well as a fine marketing case study. So the mission has been accomplished of me "staying in the game" and keeping "Drug Wars" in the title of this post. I very much WANT to see Drug Wars improve and become a long-term viable game, and am willing to be flexible as admin makes additional upgrades to the game. As I have said from the very first post in this series (and in the intro section of each weekly post), this endeavor is ultimately about exploring the "blockchain gaming" space, and so ALL data (both "positive" and "negative") is valuable data toward that larger goal.

Screenshot (1789).png

4 ) Although in the last post I mentioned that I had essentially given up on the terrible, tortuous ~ 0.10 BTC loss I experience in the recent ordeal with BitcoinVideoCasino.com, by some sort of "divine intervention" I ended up getting back in touch with one of my #Steemit buddies who had gone "Missing In Action" for a few months (for valid reasons), and it turns out that he works for a reputable cloud computing company in New York City. Their firm commonly deals with issues, such as the one I have recently had, with (what I allege to be) fraudulent online operations. In exchange for me getting my buddy back up-to-speed with the changes to "Splinterlands", AND leasing him a "Lucky Golden Chicken" (Furious Chicken - Gold - Level 2), since he went on hiatus a few months ago, he was nice enough to do some research for me (using the resources available to him, and his experience, at his cybersecurity company) to help me begin the process of researching and taking some proper legal action against the BitcoinVideoCasino.com operation. The reason for this is that in my gut I knew something was not right with this operation, and just couldn't let it go without SOME SORT of proper, legal, follow-up. Well, with some advanced tactics, we discovered this week that the hosting company of this operation is being CLOAKED by Cloudflare, so as likely to prevent DOS attacks, but probably also to hide their operation as much as possible. Let's face it, the harder it is to discover who they are, and where they're operating from, the more likely disgruntled players like me will give up trying to take some sort of legitimate action, and just suck up the loss. With a "abuse request" to Cloudflare we were provided with the name of the hosting service which hosts the casino's web site, but it was hidden under several layers of "decoy". Lo and behold, it turns out that hosting service is some sort of a re-seller associated with Amazon Web Services, and this may be the key to being able to take some sort of effective action. My buddy has laid out a detailed "plan of attack" for composing a proper "abuse report" with the hosting service ( which is serioustubes.network ), and my ultimate goal is to then contact Amazon Web Service to provide my evidence. It also turns out that, right in line with my assumption, the hosting service is INDEED based on China (Hong Kong more specifically). My friend argues that "the buck stops in Japan", but he doesn't have the experience doing business in Asia to know that "nothing is as it appears" when you are dealing with "The Chinese". Just look at what's happening right now with the #coronavirus for some convincing evidence of that. So I have also decided that, just due to all of the aggravation this operation has cause MYSELF, and the many other disgruntled players out there who have complained about the very same things I have (and lost a significant amount of their Bitcoin), I will attempt to put pressure on Amazon to get the hosting service to pressure the casino to pay me out 1.0 Bitcoin (one Bitcoin) for all of my troubles. Yup, I know that sounds a bit extreme, but I think it is justified in the grand scheme of things. The 1.0 Bitcoin is a sort of arbitrary "good luck" figure, justified by my disdain for scammers, and my intention is to immediately (and voluntarily) send my buddy in the cybersecurity company 25% of this amount (so 0.25 Bitcoin for him) to incentivise him to assist, and also so that he can (hopefully) buy a 500 (+50 free) promo batch of Untamed cards, plus the necessary potions, if we are successful. The point is that at this point, INSTEAD of just giving up on this terrible event (and taking one in the proverbial "behind", I now have some actionable options to perform to at least put some final closure on this terrible episode. If I am successful then the "crypto gods" will have come through. If not, than at least I have done my best in attempting to take legal action against a "shady" company which is operating in the shadows. This is also an effort to protect OTHER people from having this terrible experience into the future. Fingers crossed. I will provide further updates as the process moves along, until it is done - with or without success.

5 ) Okay. As I did in the previous posts in this series, the highly-detailed "diary" of my daily #steemmonsters / #splinterlands activity is laid out in the last part of this post, for those of you who are inclined to follow, more closely, what I am doing. It occurred to me that this "diary" section is JUST THAT - a highly detailed record of my daily activity in the game, with some JUICY "play-by-play" analysis notes, and commentary, on what works, what doesn't, how I am allocating the DEC earnings from the game, and some suggestions for further tweaking and experimentation. So, with this in mind, I hope some/any of you will enjoy this information. If not, you are under no pressure to read it fully, and are free to SKIM, or even IGNORE, any parts, or ALL parts, completely - at your discretion. I lay this out because it also HELPS ME to document my progress in the game over time, and may help some people NOW, and into the perpetual future...

Daily Quest Reward Cards
Note : The first choice of today's quest was "win one battle in any splinter". However, many of the battles seem to have changed so that the first round is single elimination. I tried one tournament in the evening and LOST that first battles, and so since the next tournament would be several hours later I decided that it would be too risky to keep this quest, and took the risk of (hopefully) cancelling the quest and NOT getting the "life" quest. Lo and behold, upon canceling the quest the "life" quest came up. That makes sense, though, since I ALWAYS cancel "life" quests, because I nuked my life deck so that it has laid fallow and relatively unused. Actually, this is a blessing in disguise as it is forcing me to reconsider slowly building my life deck back up from scratch, and using it (to get up-to-speed with a basic level of skills with the cards). I won one life battle today, but since I DO NOT want to descend into the abyss of 10-20 lost battles in a row, I have decided to play 2-3 non-life battles, and then one "life" battle throughout the next 24 hours, with the hope that I will eventually win five life battles to complete the quest, and/or at least earn roughly the regular amount of DEC from won battles (minus the losses from most of the "life" battles. In the longer term, I will also start slowly buying up some "life" splinter Untamed cards, since I am already continuing to get those in the daily packs, and so this makes sense.

3 x "Parasitic Growth" (non-gold - 501 DEC -- 30 cards left to buy before reaching Level 6 and unlocking "parasitic" ability)

"Giant Scorpion" (Gold - Level 3 - $0.48 USD - 500 DEC) + 60 DEC
Total = 1,060 DEC

Notes : Whoo-hoo! two JUICY gold cards in this morning's pack - including one of my favorite "Albatross" gold cards. This is surely enough to take a significant amount of the edge off of the struggle to complete yesterday's "life" quest (which I may have to bail out of). [UPDATE] I did NOT have to bail out of the "life" quest.

Daily Quest Reward Cards (from yesterday's "life" quest)
keepers - 195 DEC
nonkeepers - 165 DEC

Notes: This "life" quest was expectedly HELLISH. However, I did gain some good experience by merely playing the "life" cards, and getting a better sense of which cards I like most, so that I can start upgrading those with some of the daily DEC I am earning. I also tried, as much as possible, to use some of my neutral cards, which are naturally at a higher level, with more ability, to sort of "support" the lower-level "life" cards, until I can level some of those up. Although there were several periods throughout the past 24 hours where I got into a "rut" (losing several "life" battles in a row), I ended up falling back to a strategy of "win a streak of battles with non-"life" cards, and then try to win ONE "life" battle, and then go back to non-"life" . Also, whenever I win a battle because the other player aborts I then use that "free win" as an opportunity to play a "life" battle to hopefully grab an extra quick one to count towards the quest. I was growing increasingly concerned, as it got later in the day, that the system would not provide me a new quest upon completing the "life" quest (if it took too long - something which has happened in the past a few times), so I was pleasantly surprised to see that upon finishing the "life" quest a new "water" quest (my favorite) immediately came up (instead of a message saying "wait 24 (or less) hours before next quest". Even better is the fact that it is water, which is my strongest deck, and which I have a lot of gold cards with which to make up for the extra DEC I lost due to lost battles and lowered capture rate today.

Payout from previous week's post (link below) - 3,333 DEC

Notes: I used this 3,312 DEC (out of the 3,333 DEC payout) to buy 30 x "Brilliant Legendary" ( 1,152 DEC ) PLUS 30 X "Brilliant Alchemy (Gold)" (1,440 DEC) + 1 x "+5 reward cards" ( 720 DEC) = potions, because I was running very low on each of these. As much as I would have preferred to go on a card shopping spree with the 3,333 DEC, the potions are actually MORE IMPORTANT in the longer-term, since hitting JUST ONE "super card" as a result of applying "maximum potion power" is much more valuable than being able to go on a one-time shopping spree. Plus, I will have DEC from tomorrow's earnings with which to "go shopping"

ROUGH average of the two week's worth of updates = $0.63 + $1.04 / 2 = $0.83 USD

Notes: By calculating the daily earnings over a longer period of time it will be easier for me to decide on which cryptocurrency to use for the monthly buy, as well as how much to spend. Since the "average daily DEC earnings" amount was almost HALF of what it was last week (that is, just calculating the core earnings) this makes me lean further towards choosing Tron (TRX) as the crypto to invest the monthly earnings into, since the price is around 1/10th of Steem, and so I can buy a decent amount of TRX with this rather small amount (probably a few USD per month) of Steem. I will continue recording and calculating these earnings, and now also focus on putting a quantity to the value of the reward cards earned each day, which will bring the "average daily DEC earnings" figure up a bit (in terms of actual earnings - even though much of those earnings will be locked into the value of the cards currently held.)

I hope you find some/any of these tips useful in increasing your understanding and/or skill level in the SteemMonsters (Splinterlands) and/or Drug Wars, and/or "Prospectors, and/or any other game(s) - and the " blockchain gaming " industry as whole - which I end up exploring as this series evolves. More JUICY tips to come with each weekly update, as I dig deeper into this whole REVOLUTIONARY PHENOMENON, and become more experienced and successful in the game(s).
