"Splinterlands" + "Drug Wars" -- Power Strategy Tips #47

As I have now been playing "Splinterlands" and "Drug Wars" for over a year, I've wanted to contribute something of ACTIONABLE value to my fellow players (and FUTURE players) - but NOT just fill my Steemit feed with daily images of quest reward - or battle - SPAM (no offense to those doing so). Ultimately, Steemit/Hive is about ADDING VALUE to the social experience - that is the magic of blockchain social media technology. So, after some serious pondering, I decided that a weekly "Splinterlands + "Drugs Wars" player strategy diary" type series, with CONCISE and ACTIONABLE tips, would be of most value to my audience. Please let me know your thoughts (good and/or bad), and I hope that readers (now and into the future) will benefit from this series. If you gain a better understanding of blockchain, gaming, "blockchain gaming", marketing, psychology, forensics, philosophy, ethics, and/or any other area(s) of knowledge I end up exploring (voluntarily or involuntarily) as this series naturally progresses, then I will have done my "good deed" (of providing value) for the week. Also, feel free to hit me up on the battlefield.

[ DISCLAIMER: This has been another difficult two weeks for me, and so this update is a bit delayed. Been having back problems, as well as adjusting to this corona bioweapon -- Oops! I mean, "virus" - stuff. I have put some control mechanisms in place to help cope, and the fact that I finally got this post published is proof that those are working. Enjoy...

1 ) My progress on the #Splinterlands front has been consistent and substantial. The sheer number of battles I have been playing, PLUS the range of game rules, PLUS the range of abilities of my cards which I am experimenting with as I upgrade the most-used cards daily, is really starting to bear fruit. Now that I am doing the weekly "Steem power-down shopping sprees" to buy/upgrade the more expensive cards, I am focusing my smaller DAILY DEC shopping sprees on especially-needed non-gold cards, and more importantly, the cheaper gold cards (For example, cards like the "Wave Runner" (Gold - Level 3 - $0.33 USD - ~ 500 DEC), which can easily be purchased within my daily budget of between 500 - 1,500 DEC earnings (and a bit more when I win tournaments). The nice thing about the gold cards is that you need to buy LESS of them to upgrade to the higher levels (which is especially good for the cheaper ones) AND they pay an additional + 10% DEC bonus per won battle, so it's ALWAYS best to "go gold" whenever possible. Plus, the better your cards the more likely you can win tournaments, and winning JUST ONE gold tournament can pay off enough to buy a more mid-level $2.00 - 5.00 USD gold card, which then pays dividends. I have SEVERAL cheaper gold cards I am now working on upgrading in the next few weeks. Also, playing the lower level tournaments tends to be more challenging and rewarding, as the chance of placing (and winning some DEC) is higher relative to the overall strength of my decks, but I also get to practice experimenting with the strength and abilities of my cards at varying levels, which is a significant boon to overall skills, and thus long-term gain. Let's face it, winning is motivating, and winning 350 DEC for a four rounds of "honest pay for honest play" is better than going four rounds in a tournament which is way out of your league, getting pounded, and having nothing to show for it. Actually, some of the players in the lower-end tournaments have an advantage, because they are more skilled at playing the cards at the lower levels, and so sometimes I get my butt kicked in the lower tournaments also. It's hit or miss, but ultimately I am able to draw in a respectable amount of DEC winnings by simply playing as many tournaments as possible. Sometimes I get lucky in the higher-level tournaments (like the Gold tournaments) when someone forfeits a round which just allows me to squeeze into a place and win a sizable chunk of DEC change. In other words, sometimes it's just best to "show up".

Screenshot (2430).png

2 ) I indeed followed my new plan of using ALL of the weekly #Steemit (#Steem) power-down payout to buy Splinterlands cards. This week I got paid out ~ 194 Steem, which I immediately converted to DEC, and then went on a mega card-shopping spree at the end of that play day. While the usually daily DEC earning enable me to buy the cheaper cards, these weekly "power-down shopping sprees" allow me to pick up those more expensive cards I have wanted for a while. Also, as I monitor the overall situation with Steemit and Hive I am starting to think that it may be ideal to ALSO power-down my Hive tokens (which would be another 13 weeks of "power-down shopping sprees), because I am growing increasingly convinced that putting the Hive token value into Splinterlands cards will have a higher ROI going forward at this time ( compared to leaving it staked). I can always make weekly, or monthly, buys of Hive with the daily DEC income into the future, as well as continue posting on Steemit and Hive to earn more tokens (per post) to buy more cards, but for now it just seems like staking tokens in Hive is NOT the best strategy. I still have several more weeks to monitor the situation during the current #Steemit power-down. My gut tells me that I will likely power-down my Hive also - at least temporarily. Let's see what happens with Hive relative to Steem as the weeks progress. Steem may end up tanking completely, which may cause Hive to go up substantially, in which case I would even be able to buy MORE cards with the powered-down Hive.

Screenshot (2519).png

3 ) I've realized, this past week, that I am literally at the point where the amount of time and energy I am spending on the active daily game battling, PLUS the research and writing for the weekly posts in this series, PLUS my other two series, has forced me to naturally limit the amount of #Splinterlands game-related posts I can consume each week. Luckily, the sheer QUANTITY and QUALITY of game-related posts has increased, as well as the organization of those posts. One such weekly series post which really helps consolidate game-related content is the official "Splinterlands Weekly Curation Challenge" posts, put out by the official @splinterlands account. These posts save a lot of time and energy finding that handful of power-posts to consume each week to continue staying informed about the important happenings in the game, as well as picking up some strategy tips for myself, and to work indirectly into the posts in this series. Just working through these weekly posts provides ENOUGH content for the week, and then I also browse the "trending" #splinterlands page to see if something jumps out at me, as well as consuming all of the official update posts by the official @splinterlands account. I think this is ENOUGH to keep me "informed enough" while also taking into account my time/energy limitations at this time. Here's the most recent "Splinterlands Weekly Curation Challenge" post by the official team:

4 ) Drug Wars made the significant upgrade to the game by adding their new "Los Angeles" server this week, for the sake of allowing newbies a fairer chance of getting rolling with the game, and to allow new territory for expansion of existing players. One good decision they made it to enable players to send funds from the old server to the new server. If you remember, this is one of my main complaints about the "Prospectors" game (and why I haven't logged into that game in over a month). One of the KEY ELEMENTS to these crypto games is "crypto liquidity". If you can't get funding in and out of these games then it is often too difficult to "get over the hump" and getting rolling enough with a specific game to stay motivated. I have started buying five more "occupation troops" units (since they have bumped the maximum number of allowable bases from 5 to 10, and put one or two of those on the "Detroit" map, and plan to use the other 2-3 to set up some bases in the new Los Angeles base, primarily as a way to experiment with the new server, and getting funds over there. After all, one of the main purposes of this series is EXPERIMENTATION, so it is worth the time and energy to do that - especially since I have already proven the general viability of the #DrugWars game, as far as daily earning of DWD, and then converting those Drug Wars Dollars to DEC to give a nice little weekly boost to my #Splinterlands card-shopping effort. At least on first glance, the new updgrades to Drug Wars look promising. Let's see if they hold up to my testing protocol.

5 ) Okay. As I did in the last post in this series, the highly-detailed "diary" of my daily #steemmonsters / #splinterlands activity is laid out in the last part of this post, for those of you who are inclined to follow, more closely, what I am doing. It occurred to me that this "diary" section is JUST THAT - a highly detailed record of my daily activity in the game, with some JUICY "play-by-play" analysis notes, and commentary, on what works, what doesn't, and some suggestions for further tweaking and experimentation. So, with this in mind, I hope some/any of you will enjoy this information. If not, you are under no pressure to read it fully, and are free to SKIM, or even IGNORE, any parts, or ALL parts, completely - at your discretion. I lay this out because it also HELPS ME to document my progress in the game over time, and may help some people NOW, and into the perpetual future...

Whew! These posts are growing dense - but that's okay. Take what resonates with you,and leave the rest. I hope you find some/any of these tips useful in increasing your understanding and/or skill level in the SteemMonsters (Splinterlands) and/or Drug Wars, and/or "Prospectors, and/or any other game(s) - and the " blockchain gaming " industry as whole - which I end up exploring as this series evolves. More JUICY tips to come with each weekly update, as I dig deeper into this whole REVOLUTIONARY PHENOMENON, and become more experienced and successful in the game(s).

See you on the battlefield...
