Though this game doesn't have the depth of something like Hearthstone, it is fun enough on it's own and I very much enjoyed this season.

Do you think Items and Spells in the Land expansion will improve the depth? I've not played Hearthstone to have a comparison.

@kiokizz - Hearthstone is almost exactly the same as Magic the Gathering, minus the lands which slow Magic down. It's depth comes from its hundreds of cards, more abilities, more spells. It is a true card game, so you shuffle the deck, draw a handful of random cards and play one of the cards, be it a monster or a spell, then next turn you draw another card and play again, and so on. As you can see, there is much more strategy with this style of play. Where as programming a bot for Splinterland is fairly trivial—which is why there are so many bots playing—programming a bot for Hearthstone would be significantly more difficult. It's a fun game—it's free to play, if you have the space on your computer or phone.

But at any rate, to answer your question, I'm not sure. Possibly it will bring some new strategy, and certainly another money sink that will make it harder for new players to advance, but with the current structure of the game, that of pre-picking a team to fight based on some random rules, I don't see the game getting a lot more depth. But then again, I could be wrong. We will find out!

Reminds me a bit of playing Yu-Gi-Oh. Never got into Magic myself. Thanks for the in-depth response 👍
