Feb 18, 20: Walking, Curation Corner, Games, and Teaching Calculus
Woot! Busted another #DoubleDay! đȘđ
I suppose the early bird and all that...but frigginâ five in the morning shouldnât exist. đ Still beating the Sun up these days, which gives me plenty of time to muck about staring at my phone and pressing various buttons.
Did my usual morning stuff and then went over for Curation Corner on The Ramble. Today there wasnât a particular guest, but rather, an open community discussion regarding the recent Tron acquisition of Steemit.
Of course, weâre all pretty much in the same uncertain boat, just doing our best to piece together what seem to often be contradictory information, but the conversation was amazingly rational, civil, and intellectually interesting.
Thereâs a fundamental vulnerability in this chain (and DPOS) in general, that deep pockets can use large stake to hijack the top twenty witnesses and take over the chain. While this isnât a new issue, and other chains have faced it as well, the news has obviously brought it to the forefront, and I really think thatâs a good thing! Together we can work toward constructive solutions and strengthen the chain as a result!
There are lots of ideas being tossed around, and itâs fantastic to see. For the most part we seem to agree âhope for the best, prepare for the worst.â I think changing the witness vote structure (perhaps further limiting the number of votes and/or adding some account age or activity criteria) is one of the best Iâve heard so far as it directly addresses the vulnerability but doesnât compromise the integrity of stake.
Once that ended, the day was getting a little long in the tooth, so I was only able to get in a short âwalk.â (Under 5k doesnât count đ). No zombies today, mostly thinking about what I was going to teach.
Was cold, windy, and rainy for most of the day, so I didnât really even want to go out at all...but thatâs wussy talk, a little icky weather wonât hurt ya!
Not that it did a whole lot of good, but we did have a few breaks in the clouds.
Still falling in Holybread. Not sure if the people in front of me got lucky item drops or what, but despite my best efforts, Iâve been getting whooped. đĄ
I did get the three wins for the day, but as you can see, my win/loss ratio has been taking a hit!
Steemmonsters was only moderately frustrating today. đ I havenât made any major gains in the rankings, but still solid in Gold II, which Iâm happy with for the moment.
I saved up enough DEC to get a quest potion and completed it (Water splinter for the third day in a row!!!) in Gold II. I really thought that today was going to be the day, but I did get two cards. Used that 100 DEC to get another Rexx and got him to leveled 3. đ
In the evening I taught calculus. We started a new concept entirely: sequences. I was surprised that many students had seen epsilon proofs before (proving a limit), but it was still new to some. I didnât quite make it all the way through the material I had intended, so have to play a bit of catchup next class.
I added a new #DoubleDay category to my daily stats. đ It was a bit tedious to go back through and count up all the days Iâve had that were over twenty thousand, but now itâs done and will be easy to update.
