Steem Monsters Sunday!: Gearing Up for Another Season End

About 24 hours remain for the end of another very competitive season! Despite some travel this last week, I have been able to play and rank up into Champions Division II with my eyes set on getting into Division I at the very least this Season. I am starting to write this as I prepare to get on another plane back home but am looking forward to grinding the last 24 hours of the Season for a chance to creep into a Top 50 spot again as the rewarded Beta Booster packs are becoming to be in more demand as there are now less than 30% of the original supply available. While I plan to purchase some before they are sold out, gaining some from just playing is very rewarding!

For those who are still relatively new in the ecosystem and the Splinterlands community, when Alpha Booster packs started to get to low relative levels, a large increase in purchases started to come into the market as many started to speculate the eventual value of these Booster packs. Those that speculated have been rewarded very handsomely in a number of ways. First, Alpha cards in general have increased in value more than other editions given their benefits of needing less cards for leveling up as well as providing more DEC tokens when used by playing the game. Second, the supply of Alpha cards have continued to diminish as players have continued to combine them into stronger cards for their collections. Lastly, Booster packs have now been tokenized on Steem Engine which has allowed them to be traded on the exchange which has provided actual value increased relative to their original $2 price per packs.

However, reaching Top 50 continues to be harder each Season as more players continue to be added to the community as well as many continue to improve their collections. In addition, the new rental market continues to grow which enables even more users to acquire strong cards for prices that make it well worth the costs given the rewards obtained by completing Daily Quests, winning tournaments, and Season ending Rewards. I was witness to this as the last two Seasons I have not been able to crack into the Top 50 despite a prior placement there. I recalled that the season leading up to that placement, I invested a good amount of resources into building a better team. Therefore, I had my mind set on doing the same this time despite the relatively high prices that continue to persist in the market.

I used more than half of the Steem I acquire earlier this week to make some targeted purchases leading into the end of the Season. I have been debating with myself where to allocate the resources as I still have a long way to go before maximizing the levels of most of the cards I play with. However, Summoners have remained my focus as they allow us to use more higher level cards. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that I need to work on Summoners before Monsters as I have a number of Monsters that are capped due to the level of Summoners I use and it seems like a missed opportunity. While my first choice would have been Prince Rennyn, the prices still seem to rich for me and I have a feeling that it continues to be over utilized and may be due to a change.

I went with cards needed to max out my Fire and Death Splinter Legendary Summoners as they have been the ones that I have typically seen as limiting the potential of the Monsters in those Splinters within my collection. I was able to use them for a couple of games and it does feel that it makes a big differences when using some key Monsters to lead the teams. Where I will probably look most forward to them will be when I get these Splinters for my Daily Quests which have been challenging in the past. I still am looking forward to acquiring more but this was a big purchase for me as I have been trying to get back to save my Steem for my stake lately.

Wrapping up this post ranked 69 with a couple of more hours available for me to play. It seems within my grasps but the reality is that achieving win streaks is becoming more difficult at these levels and the gaps between the runners up of the Top 50 are getting very tight as well. However, it has been fun playing and engaging with the community which is really what continues to bring me back for more and even investing more than I would have ever imagined into it as my Collection is quickly approaching the value of my Steem account. Maybe the way I will become an Orca is combining the two?
