Steem Monsters Sunday!: Leaderboards are a Good Place to Be!

The week got off to a quick start as Monday brought us the end of another Season of Steem Monsters or Splinterlands! The last 24 hours were pretty intense as many players continued to do their best to get into the Top 50 of the leaderboards for some free Beta Booster packs which continue to sell rather well. With the increase in card prices despite the fall in Steem prices, having more cards seems like a better deal than even Steem Power! (Researching my own status as of late for another post). At the end, Top 50 required over 5,000 ranked points which is a tough threshold given the continued competition at the end of Season.

However, I settled for next best option which was to get into Champions Division 1 for 150 Reward Edition cards! It is always great to open that many cards as my daughter does the honor. Nothing special to show but always happy to add more fuel for the collection which continues to allow me to accumulate maximum level cards for future battles and tournaments. I have start to get more than I need for some as well so I am still trying to decide what to do with those I really do not need. The Reward Edition cards are often more difficult to trade unless Epic or Legendary and the rental market isn’t too special either. I think that probably the best option is to burn them for some DEC which continues to add value for the ecosystem as a whole as well.

The momentum of playing during the end of the Season and accumulating DEC had me continue playing actively early on. In addition to completing Daily Quests, I started the push early to climb the leaderboards. I have normally had a difficult time early on the season to climb the leaderboards as I am normally playing for Daily Quests which some Splinters are not the best for. With some luck and the help of my relatively new Legendary Summoners, I have been able to complete the Daily Quests quite efficiently. I was very surprised to see my self as high as rank 37 so early in the season; although it did not last long as I now above 50 by a good margin. However, this may be a good season to make an extra effort to get into the Top 50!

The other leaderboards I have been watching closely are the Tournaments as I have continued to place well in some great tournaments. With the better collection I have been able to make, I have been able to climb some of these tournaments. With the help of some favorable matchups, I have been able to place in more than half of the tournaments that I enter. I have also seen even better results for the tournaments focused on Alpha Cards given that the strong part of my collection is from Alpha cards. In fact, this weekend I participated in two Alpha Card tournaments; placing 2nd in the first one.

Even though I was happy with a second place finish, just today I was able to finish 1st in another one of the Alpha tournaments! It is only the second time I have ever won a tournament so I was really excited; especially considering that I had to beat a number of well known players to get into the final and have a chance for being a champion! I was just arriving home from the long drive back so it was a bit tough to concentrate which made it even more encouraging to experience.

The game continues to evolve and I feel that it is rewarding its players for remaining active over time. As the player base continues to grow, those of us which have been early adopters which I believe even include those starting today will benefit in many ways; not only financially. With Beta Booster packs now below 25% of its supply left, I will be excited to see what the development team has in store for the community in the coming months as the Dapp continues to defy gravity as card values increase despite declines in cryptocurrency prices in general!
