Steem Monsters Sunday!: Riding the Wave!

The end of the last season was intense as the final hours saw my rank drop to Champions Division III in search of an elusive Daily Quest with the Death Splinter which was painful. However, I was able to bounce back and creep into Champions Division I with some time to spare. At the time, I was ranked 70 with 50 being above 5,200 in points which really stopped me from playing as it would have been impossible to catch up. While somewhat disappointed, it just makes me realize how many more are joining the community to compete and actively engaging which will continue to add value to the game and the overall Steem ecosystem which is the long term goal.

Opening 150 Reward Edition Cards at the end of the season is always a highlight as the excitement of flipping Gold Foils and Legendary always is present. I think it was a great flip as I got one Ruler of the Seas Legendary card which gets me one step closer to achieving maximum level on it. In fact, I was able to get enough cards to level up a number of the Reward Edition Cards in my collection. With the exception of some of the Legendaries, my collection has been made from earning the cards as I have not bought any of them out right. I have also been able to achieve maximum level on a couple of the cards as well as being on my way to Level 9 on a few of the commons.

This has made me think some more about my Summoners as only my Life Splinter Summoner is maxed level given the cost to get them there where I am at. On average, it will cost me about $40 to get one to maximum level. This cost increases as I consider maximizing Epic or Legendary Summoners which continue to be much more expensive as they are rarer and in high demand given their strength in matches. I regret not buying them maxed when I originally got them but the thought at the time is that I would never have maxed level cards. However, as I have continued to earn and even buy cards, I now see myself owning a couple of maxed level cards that will never be used at their optimal potential due to not have the Summoner maxed. An interesting meta to consider for us seeking to optimize our collections for competitive play!

Given the increases in values, I am now considering for the first time to actually sell some cards to take advantage of the market. I have a number of assets in my collection that are either duplicate or not optimal to use that can fetch a good price relative to when I acquired them as most were from opening packs when the Alpha and Beta Booster packs had started. I even have a Gold Foil Lord of Darkness Beta (and Alpha) that I can sell for a good amount. However, just like with my Steem, I am really protective of my card and collection! It worked well for my bitcoin wallet as I held largely through the ups and downs in the market because I believe in it; the same goes for these assets as well as some of these cards are only becoming more scarce while demand increases given the mechanics behind it all.

A fun alternative has been being very active on the Rental market. I have been watching the rental card market from @peakmonsters very carefully and the demand of card purchases is flowing into rentals as well. I have been learning to gauge demand in pricing and adjusting my offers which have gone well as about 15% of my offers have been taken. I just learned a bit more on how to strategically use the escrow amount given the cool downs after a broken contract which should help my return as well. I have expanded my offering to more cards I have in my Beta collection so I hope to eventually improve the percentage of my offers being accepted in the market.

Splinterlands continues to make the engagement in the community and game very dynamic as there is now always things to do with it. Whether it being ranking up the ladder, participating in tournaments, completing daily quests, buying and trading cards or just browsing the markets and now forums; there is so much to do in the community that I believe more are being attracted to the potential it has to continue to grow as development continues. Imagine when the mobile app is available and how much more we can do while mobile! The future is definitely exciting!
