Splinterlands - R.O.I. project Week 4 results and final conclusions

avatar

Four weeks have passed, so a full month of Splinterlands gaming and analysing results. Time to reach some conclusions!

If you have just now seen these posts, you can check the first post here for the details, but my ideia is to answer a simple question:

How profitable is Splinterlands?

Of course the answer will vary a lot, depending among other factors, how much have you invested in play time and money. Nevertheless, I've explained my starting point in that first post:

How much have I invested up to this point?

I participated on the two kickstarters, although with a small amount, and invested a little more in packs. The total sum can be rounded to 250$, with a small error margin. So this will be my reference, while calculating the ROI.

How good is my deck?

Since I started playing in the Alpha stage, a good part of my cards are alpha. Most of the time I play on diamond league, although my deck is far from being maxed.

  • All my rare summoners are level 6, alpha edition
  • Only one maxed summoner, Daria
  • A few maxed cards, most of them reward ones

I have the advantage of the DEC bonus of the alphas, and the DEC bonus from my guild (gogo #roaringtwenties!!)

Conclusions from the fourth week!

Another week with season rewards! And this week was special. I was battling on my last day, and suddenly this pops up:

9scgh8.jpg

Reached Champion II for the first time ever! And honestly didn't even though that would be a possibility, given most of my deck isn't maxed; hence the surprise with I looked at the screen. And that meant 40 more chests to open in this final week!

Total battles this week: 137 / 67 wins = 48.9 % win ratio

Less time to play this week, so a lot less battles. And slighly lower win ratio, but given I've reached a higher league, losing more matches seems natural.

  • DEC won in the fourth week (battles + daily quest rewards + season rewards): 4783

  • Value obtained from reward cards (since the value can change daily, I've used the value the cards had at the day they were won): 6.99 USD / 9849 DEC (cards burn value)

As in the second week, the season rewards gave a good boost to the value from reward cards. Only one orb this week, but a lucky one: one epic and two golden cards!

So, how does it translate in terms of ROI?

Initial investment: 250 USD

Using Splinterlands exchange rate, 1000 DEC = 1 usd:

4783 DEC won = 4.78 USD
Cards value burn rate = 9849 DEC = 9.85 USD

ORB market price: 5.27 USD

Total = 19.9 USD

Weekly ROI: 7.9%

Total ROI: 63.3%

As I've stated in the first week,

Given the daily price variability of the value of cards and DEC in the markets, I've opted to do the math with the fixed Splinterlands DEC exchange rate, and using the cards DEC burn value as well. This will allow me to make a better comparison between the weeks I'll be keeping this going.

Final thoughts

How amazing is a 63.3% ROI in only one month?? True, I was incredibly lucky with the gold foil legendary card on the second week. But for the sake of a more thorough approach, let's imagine that card hadn't dropped:

  • ROI on the first week: 3.37%
  • ROI on the second week: 47.6% (removing the lucky orb value): 4.04%
  • ROI on the third week: 4.4%
  • ROI on the fourth week: 7.9%

That would give us a median week ROI of 4.93%, and roughly a 20% monthly ROI!!

A 20% monthly ROI for having fun is even higher than what I had antecipated! And again, I still believe I'm doing the math in the worst scenario, and that the game is even more profitable.
Apart from the cards and rewards, there's more ways to earn! Tournaments are one of them, and now with anytime tournaments launching in just a few days, it will be even more asy to participate. And let's not forget the rewards you get posting about the game!

A 20% monthly ROI is already pretty good; join it with post rewards, tournament prizes, and those random lucky drops worth dozens of dollars, and what do you have? A fun, addictive, and PROFITABLE game!!!

If someone makes a similar project, feel free to tag me, would be great to know the experiences and ROI's of different players and investments.

See you on the battlefield!

Totally agree, I have been playing since the seed germinator TRON promotion, my dragons are a power house.

My dragon summoners are the only ones maxed, and it's one of my favourite splinters. Still missing a few dragons to make it a competitive team thow... work in progress! ;)

I have never calculated it this much, nor invested. Just got a starter pack and few cards at the start. The rest I won or bought for the Dec's I earned. I started very late and I am still pissed off at myself for it. Still... I got my initial investment back long time ago! And now it is all fun :)

better late than never! And the good thing is that all the dec earned and cards can be reinvested to further improve your collection, and get more and more rewards. If you need any help/tips in the game just let me know!
Ps. thanks for the support! ;)

True true... but when I think of all the packs that were given at the starts for finishing quests... and then just single cards (when I joined)... ehh :p
And I could have played so many mosths longer :D

My pleasure :)
