The big bad Ogre

This big guys is the week's guest in the share your battle contest!

Yep, he looks huge. He looks mean too. And to be true... It's probably one of the cards I least use! 😁

Why?

  • Slow, starting with 1 speed and only 3 at max level
  • Big mana cost, 9!

He does have some things in his favour, thow:

  • Big health, starting at 10 in base level
  • Demoralise ability from level 1, always handy to reduce opponent's melee damage

These attributes only make him useful in very specific situations, in my opinion; given the high mana cost and the availability of other cards in the fire splinter, I haven't even upgraded this card on my account. Nevertheless, even at level 1 it can be useful in the lower leagues. I used it in a battle on my alt account, where his skills and stats were a good match for the rulesets.

Rulesets:

  • Equaliser
  • Reverse speed

With equaliser, the high health of the Moltern Ogre would be a bonus, since all my monsters will have same base health (the same for opposite team, but... YOLO :)

Reverse speed does wonders here, since the Ogre is slow; so one of the firsts to attack!

My lineup:

  • Molten Ogre as tank: High mana, fast (in this ruleset), demoralising opponent's melee attacks
  • Chicken to act as a damage absorver while...
  • Zalran, with his life leech, builds health to work as another high health "tank"

From here, I used low mana monsters, to fit as many as possible:

  • Kobld miner, low mana and sneak attack
  • Fire beetle, sniper
  • Imp bowman, only 1 attack at the base level, but a perfect fit for the 2 mana left.

The Cornealus with heal at the last position totally eliminated my kobold miner's action. But the Ogre did its part:

The opponent's tank was taken out, and only at the beginning of the third round did the Ogre fell.

And by the time Zalran reached the first position, it had a decent health already; plus, the leech ability works almost as a heal, which gave even more time to the other damage dealers.

It was a close call, but at the 14th round:

Only Cornealus remained in the opposite team, and he could only heal! So, slowly, the battle was won. You can check the whole battle here!

How's your experience with this mosnter? I don't see this Ogre that much on the other teams, so is it a card that does need some love? Or only useful in very specific settings?

See you on the battlefield!

I guess it's more useful with a slow ruleset.

i only use him in 99 mana cap and either super sneak, melee mayhem, or opportunity rulesets...and even then i usually go a different route lol (like earth if it's available)
