Battle Rule EARTHQUAKE can be challenging!: My Splinterlands Journey #9

in #spt10 months ago

It is challenging enough to assemble a Monster line-up to battle under a specific Rule. It is this challenge that keeps me wanting to play the game!

For me personally, it can be nerve-racking and frustrating when a specific Rule is coupled with the Rule Earthquake! I recall three times when I was not able to complete a line-up on time and lost the battle even before entering the battlefield because the rule sets given were a combination of Earthquake and another rule.

As I write this article, I want to let you know that I am here to share my journey in learning the game of Splinterlands. I do not pretend to be an expert to give anyone else advice on how to play and win the game. If I was that good at this game and had the ideal Monster and level cards for each Rule Set, then I'd be at the championship level by now!

The Rule Set for this battle I want to share with you today is Healed Out [All healing abilities are removed from Monsters] and Earthquake [Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round], Mana-27.

Okay, so here we go! Watch me battle!

Click on the photo below to bring you to the battle.

Now that you've seen the battle, let me explain my lineup, the order and why I used the cards as I did in this battle.

Here are my Monster Line Up in this battle:

General Strategy: Use only Monster that have the Flying ability. Use Monsters with high speeds. Use Monsters that can attack from the back positions.
Monster Cards Used Reason for Using the Card
Summoner: Daria Dragonscale, Level 3

Although I can use my Level 1 Zintar Mortaus for this battle to summon both the Death and Neutral Monsters, it is not leveled high enough to summon the full abilities of the Rare and Epic Monster cards that I wanted to use in this line-up.

I also wanted to use Manticore from the Dragon Team which can only be summoned by a Dragon Summoner.

If everything else was equal, I think that the best summoner for the Earthquake rule set would be that which adds health to all friendly Monsters, such as Earth Summoner Lyanna Natura and Life Summoner Mother Khala.

Phantom Soldier, Epic Death/Flying, Level 1 This card has the highest health of 8 in my Death Team that has the Flying ability. A great Monster for the first position, even at level 1 and no self-healing abilities or other cards allowed in the line up that can heal damage unto him, his flying ability can help evade Melee and Range attacks (which is true for all Monsters with flying abilities).
Dark Enchantress, Epic Death/Flying, Level 2 My first choice for the second position was Fallen Specter, but keeping in mind that the opponent may be fielding Monsters who attack, the second positon, I chose the Dark Enchantress primaily because she has more health than the Fallen Specter.
Fallen Specter, Legendary/Flying, Level 1 Although this Monster has ony a health of 1, his flying ability and high speed of 6 may compensate for it.
Manticore, Epic Dragon/Flying/Reach, Level 3 This Monster can attack from behind, high health, with a speed of 3 yet has a low Mana. I use this Monster as often as I use Daria Dragonscale that adds to Manticore's Melee.
Enchanted Pixie, Rare Neutral/Flying, Level 5 I wanted to use Death Elemental with higher health, speed and had the Snipe ability. But I went for the Flying ability of the Enchanted Pixie. I think that the Death Elemental would have hastened the defeat of the opponent's team if I used him, and the battle would have been won sooner.
Furious Chicken, Rare Neutral, Level 4 Perfect to fill up an open slot for battle line-up. At Level 4, this Chicken has 1 Melee attack to which Daria adds one more!

So... why don't you tell me if my strategy worked or not this time! [Like I got a comment from a good dude friend of mine that said... "Oh, you were just lucky you got to attack first", etc., etc..]

* * * * *

My chosen Splinter Team and lineup and whether it was deliberate or not or simply a result of luck, I celebrate at the end of all battles won and I say to myself: "Yay! My strategy worked!!!"

And that is just me having fun and getting in the game!!!

Other things to consider. It does two melee damage at the end of the round. Some armour will absorb that if it doesn't have flying, life splinter is good here, also consider monster that either self heal or shield. Shield will reduce the damage to only 1 per round, and self heal is powerful. Even putting a self heal melee is powerful in 2nd position if your goal is to out last. LORD A as a take with sea monster or flesh golem in 2nd can be really hard to beat before flying takes them out. If you don't have one, consider scavenger as a replacement, as others die, it gains life to offset the 2 damage
Good luck

D'oh! I was gonna say THE SAME THING! 😂😂😂🤣🤣

Awesome suggestion. The rule set in the above battle was HEALED OUT/Earthquake, so I couldn't use cards that can heal damage to other monsters or self-heal. My first default was to use the Splinter with the most number of flying abilities, added those from the Neutral Splinter, then positioned them accordingly. The reason is: My card levels are all low, I though the best way to battle is to remove the possibility of being killed by the earthquake, so I can just focus on lining up the Monsters according to their abilities.
So much to learn!!!! Thanks for your input! I appreciate your comment, @senstless! Take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

This is an epic post @silversaver888. I have to admit I just scrolled through and kind of glanced at it. I have tried a couple times to understand steem monsters but my brain does not compute. 😁

Yeah it seems like the Life splinter is good with Earthquake if you don't have a lot of flying monsters. Tyrus Paladium gives +1 Armor so the armor takes the first round of damage. 🛡️

Either way great match!

Ahhh, yes!!! Thanks!!!
Happy New Year, my friend @stealthtrader, and take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

I think your strategy is one of two that are the most feasable. One is yours and the other which I often have to use is high armor stats. The nonhealing handicap really is a pain with earthquake I agree. You are doing awesome my stacking sis and learning super fast as with all things!! Thanks for sharing!!

You know me. I got into this game without really knowing what to do!!! After losing so much in Earthquake and seeing that opponents' cards are not affected by the earthquake, then that is when I notice that the flying ability protects the monsters from the earthquake. Well.... it doesn't say that anywhere!
So when this rule came around, I chose the splinter with the most number of cards with the flying ability and lined them all up, hehehe.
And like... I hate to be asking questions too much because I am sure everyone else figured it out! It is the story of my life, my stacking brother... I am always asking for help and assistance in one thing or another. I guess it is the one thing that keeps me very humble. I know that I am where I am in life by the thousands of people who cared enough to answer my questions.
Take care, my stacking brother @dwingsworld. 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

Asking questions is never a bad thing my stacking sis! Its the only way we grow and learn and even if it seems silly it still helps us realize their is so much out there.

Manticore only attacks when in second position. Having it in the middle of your deck means it was wasted. You picked the right cards but in the wrong combination (possibly)

Switch the Manticore to second spot so you would have benefitted from its attack and put your Dark Enchantress in last position. The Pixie has very low health so by swapping Manticore and Enchantress to new positions it adds extra attack and strengthens up your tail (keep furious chicken in the last slot as cannon fodder).

I love to read your posts, you obviously have developed a love for the game and enjoy writ3about it as much as I do. @splinterlands weekly contests are fun and cool to enter, let's see what they hit for us next Monday.

Oh gosh... thanks for reminding me about Manticore! I wish I could think as fast as you, dude! I also wanted to protect him from Monsters that attack second positions, and there are quite a number of them that do, and I why. The first position is attacked by the tank and almost all other opponent cards, and then specific cards are dedicated to killing the second and the last positions. On several occasions, having a strong melee Monster positioned in the back/middle position has won battles for me. But did you notice in this battle... the Dark Enchantress (attacked the most number of times) and the Enchanted Pixie (both which you thought were weakly positioned) were the cards that gave the final blows to the line-up of opponent other words, these two weak cards actually won the battle for me, while the other cards acted as support to them. It is funny how that turned out, right?
Have a wonderful day, dude!!! Take care 🥰🌺🤙 !tip

I feel your pain!
I've also run out of time attempting to build a team following the rule sets.

I totally think your lineup was great. Your focus on flying monsters is what helped (compared to the other guy). But no healing either!?! WHY?!?!

Great post! And great formatting! It's possible I've said this before... but having a pleasant format makes consuming content SO MUCH EASIER and more enjoyable.

Loved that you used a table too!
