RORing Thoughts:

Prelude

I first heard of bitcoin was back in 2013-2014,I kept seeing ads prompting me to buy some but, who would be dumb enough to buy into this scam? I'd wonder when such ads popped up.

Oh, I know, a looney friend of mine did. He would occasionally bring it up, I would just as quickly dismiss it. What a dumbass, I presumed.

Turns out, I'm the dumbass. I haven't talked to him in years, have 0 contacts of him but, I sure hope he kept them and is now lamboing. Maybe one day we'll meet again, kick it and discuss crypto, who knows. Sadly though, he's type to tell you I told you so, and repeatedly remind you! He won't let it rest. lol

Then 2017 came through, crap! It was regrets on regrets on regrets, I'm sure you know how the story goes. After the regrets and reflecting on my life's indecisions, I started researching bitcoin, blockchains and cryptos.

That initial research phase lasted a few weeks. Every time I read on them, I only got more confused. I would then take a break to clear my head and headaches, then get back to it once properly rested. Such brakes would take hours, days, sometimes weeks, but there was no rush. Not like even if I understood the jargon I would have been able to buy into a project, I was broke af. The heck was I thinkin?? 😂😂

Well, that's until on one fateful day in January 2018, while "researching," I fell across a steemit video by jerrybanfield if I'm not mistaken. Seemed too fishy to me. For I'm kind of an extreme sceptic you see, except when I'm naively optimistic.

So I researched more about the platform. The explanations weren't as convoluted as with other projects but still, the convolution was there.

A few hours went by and in the end, tired, I thought to myself you know what, fuck it! It's free, presumably social media like, an aspect I was already familiar with despite hating, I'm gonna be making hundreds of dollars per week, plus it's f*ckin free! No time for negativity or second guessing, I'm going in!

I got accepted a week later, and the rest is history!

... Ok @ange.nkuru, that's a cool story but what does that have to do with gaming?

Oh yeah, my bad, I got carried away, it won't happen again. So, as much as when researching I'd always end up at a loss of IQ, some aspects of the info stuck with me and would always come back to hunt me.

Certain themes kept coming up, and repetitive claims that certain sectors were about to be disrupted, annihilated when not bettered by blockchain. Such sectors to be bettered were, to name a few, real estate, gaming, etc.

Sure they were all exciting but the gaming industry really caught my attention. It seemed more attainable to me, not only financially wise, but specially since I'm an ex gamer, ish.

I didn't know how, when, or even if what they were suggesting was possible. I didn't understand much about markets, but I sure as hell knew the gaming market was huge, still expanding, and that gaming on blockchain was one to keep eye out for. Besides, I would soon be earning hundreds of dollars per week so sooner than later, I'd be kickin that industry's door down, ready to splurge.

Eventually though, I kind of forgot about it. Reality had set in, SID(Steem Induced Depression, it's actually a thing.) would kicking in, harder and harder with each passing day and payout.

Get to the point already! No one gives a rat's ass about your sob stories! Ishhh

Crap you're right, this shit's already getting too long for my payout anyways. Back to it now.

Where was I again? Oh yeah, steemmonsters. So steemmonsters came out, around may/june last year if I recall. At the time, steem's price was mooning compared to now so it was no issue getting a few packs every now and then. Speculation was in high gear across the board and being such a great team player I decided to partake.

Not many people, including I really knew what the game would be about, how we were going to earn etc, none of that. FOMO and giveaways were at their peak, followed by a suffocating angst and anticipation for the game's deployment. Months that angst lasted.

Admittedly, after some time waiting, I thought it was a bust. I was salty, stopped checking the ongoings and updates but, thank the chain gods I didnt cave in and sell the cards I already had. I mean, who could have guessed back then that we would have come this far, gains on top of gains, doing numbers at every turn.

No I'm not saying every blockchain game will be as profitable, that would be delusional. I'm just saying that even if we get just a few that do a fraction of what splinterlands has accomplished, things could get legendary, really fast.

So yeah, these days I regularly find myself investigating chained games whether on steem or elsewhere, though not necessarily buying, yet.

New Competition:

But what do we have here, 2 brand new games on the chain, in the next 2 weeks alone!

Steemknights:

First comes @steemknights on the 28th of this month. It will already be on android, and then IOS later this year. Check out their intro, their
trailer, and my referral link while you're at it.

From what I gathered it will be a rock, paper, scissors chess, that's pretty much it, I'll find out the rest when it's game time. Not really a big fan of the wager system but hey, gotta do what you gotta do, we'll see how it goes after a few games.

ROR(Road Of Rich):

The second to drop in 2 weeks, is @roadofrich. It's a game in which I have already invested a relatively significant amount, needless to say I'm hyped about it, can't wait to try it out!

It will be deployed on October 7th, maybe not in a location near you at first but, it will eventually. Best be on the lookout for this one.

These are interesting times we're living in for sure. Shit's just getting wilder and wilder and I haven't even talked about nextcolony, brosino, drugwars nor cacheverse.(Anyone know if they still offer 1 free item per sign up?) Interesting times we're living in indeed.

But:

As exciting as it's all getting, I wonder how long until the blockchain gaming industry meets the standard of the mainstream. Whether in gameplay, in graphics, control of movements, competitiveness, etc.

With a year and 8 months under my belt as a cryptofiend, I'm coming more and more to terms with the fact that mass adoption for anything crypto related, might take years if not decades. But darn it I want it and I want it now! The millenial in me just can't help it.

What do you think though? How long do you think until we meet the mainstream standards? 5, 10, 15? I'm well aware that developing on a blockchain is tricky and can get quickly expensive, on top of markets being irrational, making it harder to provide a timeline.

But what if institutional money started pouring in? Or maybe a big E-sports company was willing to take the risk on a particular chain, ideally steem? And if it did, would a competitor or plural, decide to follow suit on another chain? Surely that would kick the race into high gear. So how long then? 3 years? 5, 10?

Man so many thoughts roring inside my mind. Is it hope, faith, wishful thinking, I don't know. If you got any insights or thoughts on this, feel free to share, I would love to know.

Btw, any news on Chibera? I've seen some say they exit scammed, others that they encountered roadblocks, but are still working on their product and services.

Don't know which is true, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because to be honest, personally I think that was/is the most ambitious gaming project we've had so far. But then again, I was yet to invest in the game so what do I know?

PEACE!!

Great post!

I love the backstory. I love the gaming overview. I love stuffing enough references to justify the use of so many great Tribe tags, haha.

About @chibera: exit scammed might be a little bit too harsh (they only got $398 from the $250.000 they asked for), although if someone promises you all those things, you'd better beware.

True.

And I do agree with the second part of your comment too. Which is why I'd provide them funding through delegation to minimize the risks.

Cheers for passing by.
