What is Splinterlands? Apparently it is a digital card game. From my limited understanding you actually own the cards you buy or are rewarded with, on the Steem blockchain itself.

So I decided to give it a try. The Starter pack was $10 and I suppose that's the "buy-in" for the privilege of getting to play the game itself. It appeared my card collection was very limited.

It reminds me of a Magic the Gathering and Heartstone hybridized digital card game. Seems like a great alternative to Hearthstone, where I have personally dumped hundreds of dollars into "collectible cards" which I neither own or posess in a physical or digital form.

So anyway, I had no idea what I was doing, so I used Paypal (forgive me for not using crypto to pay!) to quickly utilize my debit card and dip my toes into these murky waters of which I had no understanding.

Usually, before making an investment of this kind, I will research everything I can about the game and see if it's worth my time, reading reviews, etc. However in this case, since it was on Steem, and is based on blockchain- I dove into the murky waters head first with no clue, so forgive my n00bishness.

I proceeded to receive my first quest.

So I went to "Battle Mode"

^ then clicked that button, still no idea wtf to expect. Is this like Magic? Is this like Hearthstone?

I quickly discovered it was neither.
So I picked the blue wizard, and filled in the cards something like this.

Then I entered a battle screen with an opponent from somewhere else on the planet, no idea who this person is, or why they are playing this game either.

I quickly figured out if I hit this button:

followed by a click of this button:

I could quickly win games (without knowing how) and in quick succession, allowing me to fulfill my very first quest and win the following card as a result:
