Why you should create a second Steemmonsters account

avatar

If you are among the fortunate who have recently joined Steemmonsters you may be wondering why many people play two accounts. I recently created an alt account myself and would like to explain why and when you should also take this step to avoid missing out on DEC or Steem (in other words: money).

Reason 1: Affiliate payments

I bought more than 300 boosters before realizing that I was wasting a huge amount of Steem in the process. Check out the “Affiliate Program” in your profile section.

You will find that you can earn 5% on all shop purchases made by affiliates. That is by people who signed up through your affiliate link.

What may not be that obvious at first: Signing up your alt account through this link will make it your main account’s referral. Every time you purchase packs through your alt account, your main account will receive an affiliate payment into its Steem wallet.

But you want the boosters you purchased in your main account, right? Not a problem. Simply use the transfer feature on the Mana Well page to send the packs there.

Then open the packs in your main account. Voilà, you just saved 5% on your booster pack purchase.

Apparently, this does not work when signing up initially for your first account. In that case you may use my affiliate link. Comment here afterwards and I will buy you cards from the market with the affiliate earnings I get from your starter pack purchase.

Reason 2: Gold League Level Caps

Once your cards reach a certain level (around the gold league level cap), it may be more profitable to play two level 6 summoners than combining them trying to reach level 7. This is especially true because you can only earn a limited amount of DEC each day that is restricted by your capturing rate. Once you get below 80-70% it suddenly gets a lot less attractive to continue playing. And do not forget about the daily quests and season rewards! Two decks finishing the season in Gold 3 will earn you substantially more reward cards than one deck finishing in Gold 2 or 1.

Reason 3: Gold Foil Cards

While you may choose to level up your cards despite the level cap advice, you will end up with useless assets once your gold foil card amount increases. From that point onward either your gold foil card or your normal foil card (depending on which has the higher level) will be lying around in your collection unused and not earning any profit.

Have you noticed all those gold foil only accounts you encounter in your daily battles? These exist because moving all your gold foils into an alt account will make maximum use of them. Due to foil bonuses your DEC earnings on that account will be a sight to look at!

For this strategy you should make sure to have at least four of the five main splinters or your alt will not be able to complete the daily quests. (If the missing one gets selected as quest, you can request a new one once per day.)

Reason 4: Waiting Time

What is the most annoying part about playing Steemmonsters? In my opinion it’s waiting. Waiting to get matched to an opponent and waiting for them to submit their cards. I kind of loath my own advice here, because by following it you will contribute to the problem. But on the other hand, it will be less annoying for yourself.

To avoid boring waiting periods, you could play two accounts in two different browsers on your computer and switch back and forth between them. While one is still looking for an opponent, you can assemble your team in the other one.

Conclusion

In my opinion buying a second starter pack is mandatory when reaching a certain level and wanting to max out on your earnings. Depending on what your strategy is for your alt/main relationship, you may transfer the starter cards to your main account and use them there. After all, there’s worse investments than five summoners and a couple of beta cards for 10 USD.
