A Secured Dream

"It's astonishing to see Captain Morgan always come home with honor. I'm amazed by his kind nature and the respect they always poured on him. I think I have to go see him anytime he is back home," Abigail said to herself, as she was just too curious about things related to flight.

“Mum, when does Captain Morgan come home?” she asked.

“I think he comes home every four weeks. He came back two weeks ago, and his coming again in the next two weeks, her mom replied in surprise.

“Why did you ask?” Her mom replied after thinking deeply about her daughter's question.

“Mum! I just want to see him just for him to answer some questions that lift my mind, she replied.

“Can't I answer your questions?” Her mom replied.

“Not even my dad can answer those pale questions left in me," she responded.

Her mum walked straight to Abigail's Dad, her husband.

“Honey! Have you asked your daughter why she wants to see Captain Morgan?” Abigail's mom should not waste time before relating what the daughter said to her husband.

“I have not heard it from her before," Abigail's dad replied.

When Abigail was at home, her dad called out to her and asked her to spill out the reason she had been longing to see Captain Morgan.

“Dad, I have a passion for flight after seeing the way Captain has been honored in the community. I want to be like him, Abigail said.

“Not in my house will this dream of yours happen. Just cast out the thought of becoming something that would not profit you immediately. That's not what I have for you,” her dad replied.

“Dad, I can't do any other thing except my dream to take a flight and to be a pilot,” Abigail said.

After two weeks, Captain Morgan arrived. Abigail rushed to meet with him. The queue in his house was just too long. She rushed to where she could see Captain Morgan clearly and free her mind of the too many questions left in her. She tried, but could not have the opportunity to speak with him. Likewise, she left without seeing him.

Captain Morgan has to stay for three days before leaving. It's been two days now, and she has not had the opportunity to speak with him. Abigail has been going to Captain Morgan's house every day for the past three days but has been left handicapped without having the opportunity to see him.

She was supposed to go to school, but she decided to skip school and went to Captain Morgan's house with her uniform. She left home thinking she was going to the school but to Captain Morgan's abode. Not only that, but she got there and saw Captain Morgan dressed, ready to leave.

“Hello, Sir Morgan!!” She called out.

“Hi, may I help you?” He replied.

“I have been longing to see you but have not got the opportunity since your house has been flooded with countless people," Abigail said.

“But right now, I'm ready to leave for my office. We can see when I come back in two weeks, the captain said.

“No, sir, I must free up my mind just to talk to you,” Abigail said.

“But…’, before the Captain could say another word, Abigail kneeled, crying.

“What!!” The captain exclaimed.

“Get up, child.”

“Just say you will give me a listening ear, or else I will not stop crying, nor will I stop kneeling," Abigail said.

“Alright then, I want you to go to school and come back when you are back," the captain said.

Immediately, Abigail fled in excitement, running outside, but then one thought landed in her mind, which made her run back to the Captain. “But Captain, you are ready to leave; how would I see you?”

“You are truly determined, child. I will skip my journey for today until I'm done answering you," Captain again put a deep smile on Abigail's face.

The idea of seeing the Captain was just in Abigail's mind, even while in her class. She was just imagining how she would be seen flying an airplane in the air. She began to observe anything flying in the air, just as if she were the one flying.

“What's your name, and who are your parents?” Captain asked.

“I'm Abigail, and my parents are Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” Abigail replied.

“So, what can I do for you?” The captain asked.

“I have a passion for flying an airplane, or may I call it anything called a flight? I want you to explain everything about it to be sure of my path. Although my parents detest me for going for my dream,” Abigail said.

“They shouldn't deny you what you want to become in the future. Your future is your life, the Captain replied.

They both chatted for a long time, and the captain kept ignoring those who came to see him just to satisfy Abigail.

“Do you know there is a risk of flying up there?” The captain asked.

“There is nothing on earth without risk," Abigail replied.

“You are brave. You will take me to your parents," Captain said.

They both went to Abigail's house. The captain chatted with her parents for so long.

“But you know that my daughter is a female?” Abigail's dad asked.

“Women are not to be disqualified in any way. They are always on top when it comes to the aspect of flying. So, she has the passion, and let's give her what she wants, Captain advised.

“Alright,” Abigail's parents replied, while Abigail was happy to have heard his parents give their consent to her dream.

When she was done with secondary school, she went to meet with Captain Morgan. He started training her how to fly anything flyable by humans. It did not take her two days to learn, as she had to start by flying a jet. She flew it perfectly, even far better than those who had been there for years. She was immediately given a job while she was still going to aeronautical school just to acquire the certificate.

After a year, she started sending tangible money home to her parents. They were so happy and were proud of her. She went home during her break, and her compound was flooded with females trying to know how she made it through being a female.

“This was my dream, and now I have accomplished it in full.

In one sense the story is meaningful. Abigail is fearless and sets an example for others. In history, there had to be someone who went first. However, it is not believable that the young girl would be given a jet to fly almost right away and that she would know how to do this.

In writing stories there is something called 'suspension of disbelief'. This happens when the reader becomes so involved that they accept the premises the author presents. However, there has to be a bridge of credible details for this to happen. A young girl flying a jet after two days is not credible, and therefore does not lead to suspension of disbelief.

You began with a good idea. If you had developed it more, had shown the way Abigail worked her way up, the reader might have accepted the rest of the story.

Thank you for sharing this with us, @abigail04.

The concept is a good but it's as if it was rushed and some details were left out.
The idea of mastering flight in 2days seems odd

All I see here is a young girl that knows what she wants and is following her dreams. Nice story, who said girls can't be pilots)

I remember a cousin of mine that wanted to be a pilot
Assuming he read this, his thinking might have changed
What a brilliant story but is it possible to master flying a plan in 2days 😂😂

I love how Abigail's passion for flight led her to seek out Captain Morgan, and despite the initial challenges, she never gave up. One thing that stood out to me is how Captain Morgan saw the potential in Abigail and didn't hesitate to invest his time and knowledge in her. I also appreciate how Abigail's parents ultimately came around and supported her dream, despite their initial concerns.

Being a lady sometimes shoves us off some opportunities but I'm glad Abigail pushed through. She is a rare-gem.
