If Not For The Bicycle

“Thief, thief, thief… Please, someone should help me pursue that young man. He has stolen my bicycle", Adebo yelled.

Rick Han
Adebo is just 14 years old and is still in junior secondary school. His father bought him a new bicycle as a gift for coming first for the first time during his stay in school.

“I'm off to the market," his mom told him as Adebo began to create some attitude, showing his interest in following his mom.

“Mum, I want to follow you to the market," he said.

“You have to stay at home until I'm back. You know the market is just a stone's throw from the house," his mom said, trying to persuade him to stay, but he wouldn't listen.

“Mum, I will ride on my new bicycle to the market.” Adebo was happy, but still needed an answer from his mom.

“Alright, but you have to do as I say while on our way,” his mom replied as Adebo jumped, almost touching the ceiling in an excited state.

“Yes, mom," he said.

“Honey, please take care; we will be back soon," his mom told his dad.

“I was thinking Adebo should stay at home.” When he heard his dad speak, he became sad, and his face was just like someone who had been defeated in a battle.

“No, Dad, I have to go with Mom," he replied.

“Honey, let him be. I will take care of him on our way”, his mom responded as joy was about to overtake his face but waiting for his dad's response.

“If you say so, remember that the market is not your home and that you used to jump from pillar to post. So, you have to follow your mom without taking your eyes off hers. OK? His dad said this as he jumped once again in excitement.

Adebo got ready and followed his mom to the market, riding on his bicycle slowly. As they got to the market, his mom was about to enter a tight place, and so she told Adebo to stay in a shop. She also informed the woman in charge to help her out by keeping an eye on Adebo. It was not up to 5 minutes; his mom came back but could not see Adebo in the position she left him in.

“Madam, where is my boy?” She asked the woman.

“He was sitting right here. You know I can't fully concentrate on him as I have a market to sell,” the woman replied.

Meanwhile, Adebo’s mom was holding her bag filled with a tangible amount of money. Immediately, a young boy drew closer to her and flung her bag away from her. He began to run, and he was running so fast. Adebo's mom was running after the boy shouting, “Tief, thief, thief.”

One other boy who was standing across the roadside had to run after the boy just to help Adebo's mom get his bag back. He saw a bicycle parked by the roadside. Immediately, he climbed it and began to chase the thief. This time, it was outside the market. The thief was still running as the other boy was chasing after him with the bicycle.

Adebo turned from where he was and began to chase the boy who had taken his bicycle. He was shouting so loudly without stopping. “My bicycle is gone. My new bicycle is gone. What should I tell my mom and dad about what happened to my bicycle?” As he was crying profusely, he saw his mom standing but sweating profusely.

“Mum, why are you sweating? Are you looking for me?” He asked.

“Where have you been? I have been searching for you before this boy came by and snatched my bag from me, his mom said.

“Anyway, thank God I have seen you. The bag can go, his mom added.

Immediately after he heard his mom say her bag had been stolen, he got the courage to speak up to her about his missing bicycle.

“Mum, even my bicycle had been stolen by a boy. He climbed on it and drove it away in a hurry.

As he was talking, his mom was busy watching the road, just to see if the boy who had chased the thief was coming.

“Mum, why are you silent?” Adebo said.

“I'm just waiting for this boy who was chasing the thief. I just hope the thief gets caught, his mom said.

After five minutes of standing, she saw the boy who had chased the thief coming with his bag, and the thief was caught alongside. Some other people held the thief as the boy rolled the bicycle. As they approached, Adebo immediately said, “Mum, this is my bicycle. Hey you, why did you steal my bicycle?”

“I did not steal it; I only used it to help this woman right here chase the thief who had snatched her bag from her," the boy said. “She is my mom," Adebo said.

“Wow, what a coincidence!” the boy responded.

“Thanks a lot. You have saved me today. God shall reward you bountifully”, Adebo's mom began to pour out praises to the boy who had helped her bring his stolen bag back.

The thief was handed over to a standing policeman.

The boy was handsomely rewarded by Adebo's mom.

“If not for your bicycle, I would have lost a lot of money today," Adebo's mom said to Adebo.

“It means I have saved the day, Mom," he replied to his mom.

“Yes, child, you have," his mom replied

Adebo!
He should have stayed at home. His presence at the market caused a lot distraction to his mom. Thankfully, the thief was caught and they didn't not lose anything.

How wonderful! The bicycle was the vehicle to solve all the problems and catch the thief. We all need a super powerful bicycle. Greetings

This story starts out simple, but gets very complex with lots of action and many things happening at once! The plot is very clever, with it appearing to Adebo that his bike has been stolen, even though it has only been borrowed by a boy to catch the thief who stole Adebo's mother's purse.

One thing you might want to fix is the opening scene with Adebo rolling on the floor crying about the bike. When the scene happens later in the story, that is not what he does. Here it says he chased after the boy who took the bike:

Adebo turned from where he was and began to chase the boy who had taken his bicycle.

A story with a teaching of learning to be obedient, although in the end everything went well, they would have saved those difficulties if Adebo had listened from the beginning the voice of his parents, although they pleased him he did not do his part and it was a bad experience, hopefully Adebo will learn to obey, although it is difficult to think so because in the end he believed that thanks to him and his bike everything went well. Good job, greetings

Wonderful write-up, if not for the bicycle. Thanks to the young boy who helped Adebo's mom get her bag back.

It was a very exciting story and it was good that everything ended well thanks to the child's help. Adebo really got out of the mess he got into with his bike.
Good story.
