Splinterlands Battles: David vs Goliath Scenario?

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've posted. Today I bring you a couple of fights where the lv1 underdog wins the strong looking Gold Foil cards with lv 3s and 4s. (I don't know if people will recognise the meme on my cover image, I hope you guys do 👀 )

Chaos Legion has been an absolute banger in shifting the meta, I was able to win against a leveled Yodin Zaku team with some of the Chaos Legion cards, amazing :D

Both fights I'm showing today are with Kelya Frendul, the new 4 mana water summoner. (+1 bonus fight from ages ago xD)

Fight 1: vs Yodin Zaku

For this fight I opted to use Djinn Oshannus, Venari Wavesmith and Axemaster. They also happen to be my favorite cards in the Water Splinter :D So i guess the power of Friendship played a part too? 😝

Anyways, onto the match. Venari Wavesmith + Kelya Frendul gave my monsters 3 armor each. My Kelp Initiate tanked the attacks from Yodin Zaku's monsters via Armor and Dodge (with its 6 speed after Kelya Frendul's boost). I used Djinn Oshannus's natural bulk to tank the Blast damage. Meanwhile my Axemaster got to work and with the help of my other monsters, decimated Cerberus on Turn 1.

On round 2, my Kelp Initiate died, unfortunately :/ But Djinn Oshannus can function as a second tank, with his also insane 6 speed to dodge attacks.

In fact, he dodged so many attacks that by turn 4, he still had 6 health left.
By this time all the opponent's tanks have died, and their range monsters are incapacitated whenever they reach the first position, causing them to deal lesser damage overall as time passes. The range monsters also have low health, allowing my monsters to destroy them at this point.

His Gold Foil cards are shiny, but they cant outshine my monsters and strategy 🤣 (pun intended)

Fight 2 : vs Contessa L'ament

In this next fight, I'm up against Death's Contessa L'ament, and some more level 3 SHINY Gold Foil cards.

In this match I can only use cards with odd mana costs, so I cant use my Djinn Oshannus anymore D:

I saw in their previous matches they were reusing this same deck very often, so I decided to bring in Captain's Ghost to counter their Haunted Spirit and its Heal. Likewise, this set up utilises speed to (hopefully) dodge attacks. Thats why I also brought along a Creeping Ooze to widen the speed gap between us.

The strategy is overall successful, with my Serpent of Eld only taking minimal damage. Sadly my Axemaster will not do much this game, as its damage is halfed from 4 damage each turn to 2 damage each turn, because of Contessa L'ament's suummoner skill of -1 range attack. The good thing is that it can function as a meat shield to shield our monsters from Sneak, which its doing quite well.

We managed to kill a monster in round 1 using Blast, caused Affliction and prevent healing on the Haunted Spirit, and weaken it enough for us to kill it on turn 2.

In round 2 we managed to kill off most of their monsters, leaving only 2 ranged monsters. Unfortunately my Serpent of Eld will die to poison from Haunted Spider, but Captain's Ghost will be enough to finish them off.

The last fight is one from before Chaos Legion was released, when the base set had not changed yet. In this one the opponent has even stronger cards compared to the previous few matches:

I don't really remember my thought process for picking my monsters in this one, its been WAYY too long kekw

But yeah my Armor from Venari Wavesmith helped me tank hits from their sneak and opportunity monsters, allowing me to kill off their front tanks.

By round 5 I only had 2 half dead monsters left, but thankfully Serpent of Eld got off some lucky dodges and allowed us to turn the tide in our favor

The match ended off really close, I picked out the victory in the end.

Thats all the matches from me today, they rationale behind them is simple, get lucky dodges xD. But it shows that it IS possible for people like me with basic lv 1 cards to beat cards with higher levels. With Kelya Frendul ( the new Water Summoner), its easier to increase your speed of your monsters, which can be deadly when paired with already fast monsters like Serpent of Eld and Djinn Oshannus.
