That's a very good point. I'm playing in Silver l, but I don't have enough CP to reach Gold. Which I have never played !
Until you have a good deck to play in gold, I suggest to try to reach silver 1 at the end of the season. I think this will be the most profitable way.
I ended last season with Diamond 3, and new rewards are still being explored. I find day-to-day tasks much more difficult. thanks for sharing.

Yes it seems that everybody I play against is renting powerful summoners. That makes it much more difficult to collect these chests. Thanks for the tokens!

I think people who have managed their Energy Capture Rate(ECR) will find the rewards are consistent for season rewards. This means that they add on average 5 chest per day to the season total. The Daily focus is harder at first and gets easier the further they progress in the season/league. (3 chest, 4 chest, 5 chest) Yes luck of the draw for focus makes a big difference to some people.
In 3 days I am at 18 chests which was the amount of chest I received last season in Silver 1.
So far I have collected 8 champions chests. It's going very slowly because I managed to fall into gold 1. I believe towards the end of the season, as you said, it will get easier to do daily focus.
In most circumstances, I agree with your first point, meaning if you can only reach diamond, diamond 1 is the best league to be in at the end of the season.
But if you can reach champ, you should go for that, in my opinion, even if it's only CL3. Champ chests are much better than diamond chests. Matt commented in a Splinterlands show that they might need to make champ chest less rewarding if the difference compared to diamond is so high.
On the second point, even if you remain in the same league and don't advance, and don't deplete your ECR more than necessary, it's still worth playing during the first days. You still earn SP and FP. I earned 8 champ chests in almost two days in gold only from season rewards, plus 2 focus chests, while making enough mistakes. One of the champ chests gave me over 3000 DEC.
One other piece of advice would be to not target the focus mission, especially in the first part of the season when you aren't high enough, and to not use the same splinter continuously, especially if you don't have different developed summoners. Just advance to the higher league first (i.e. from gold to diamond), regardless of what you play.
I finished in Champion 3 and then at the beginning of the season I droped into gold 1. In my FP with about 10 games won, I only got 1 single chest. Well it was a good chest because I got 24K DEC in it lol.
It's maybe too early do draw conclusions but I think we will only see at the end of the season how things are going. If I manage to get to champion a couple of days before the end, then I will definitely be able to get some chests :-).
You are right to point out that playing too much focus missions can be bad. I believe it makes sense to ignore them and climb the leauges and then concentrate on focus missions in the second half of the season.
I am glad I made the decision to keep at Silver 1 last season, and not be tempted to rent up to Gold 3 end of season for the extra 4 chests (22 for Gold 3 vs 18 for Silver 1). If I had reached Gold 3, like you said, I would have to climb my way from through Silver 3. But I didn't analyse so much, I just wanted things easy so I chose Silver instead of Gold.
So far I have gotten 10 daily chests over 3 days, and my season chest counter is at 16. That said, Silver chests aren't that amazing but hopefully the quantity will make up for it. Would think I am doing ok so far. Hehe!
Maybe it's a bit early to draw too many conclusions but I reached champion 3 and now I struggle to win chests :-)
