How does the new reward system affect the markets ?

About seven days ago a big change was introduced into Splinterlands with the new rewards system. In this video, I try to analyze how these changes have affected the card markets. It's probably a bit early to draw some conclusions but I believe it's still interesting to see how the whole market dynamics have changed.

Great to see those data points. The rentals are a little bit dissapointing to start. I focused a lot on CP at the start because the yearly ROI in rentals were great. Now I have to adjust my strategy. It seems that good/OP cards have high rental prices as well as good summoners. I think that bots will find a new way to play and earn profitable after a few seasons and make the rentals go up eventually.

Second, I was also disappointed in the rewards during the start of the new season. But I was in Silver earning Diamond chests and using to rentals. Now I am renting for a certain amount of DEC and earning 6/7 daily chests which makes the rentals profitable in a daily sense and not even counting the end of season chests.

Third, I fell in love with the strategic gameplay of splinterlands (in combination with the play & earn and blockchain experience). I've noticed that the level of gameplay has increased. You are playing the best decks and you beat opponents by using a better strategy and outplaying them. The game is just so much more fun. I used to just spam my 5 daily wins for the chests not caring how much I lost. No every lose feels bad and I adjust my play and become a better player.

All in all I think this is a big step forward for the game.

Thanks a lot for your great comment and for sharing your experience with the new reward system!

I think we will all need to revise our strategies for the game, especially when it comes to rentals. Also I agree that the play level has increased quite a lot. I have the feeling that my opponents have become quite stronger :-).

So useful information. I got 5 rewards yesterday, but now my ecr is low, so I'm just going to let it recover. I have 29 season rewards so far, a lot more than before. So it's improving !

With the new system, I have some difficulties to let my ECR come back up. It's addictive to play and I have to stop when it drops below 60%. Otherwise recovery becomes too long.

I have seen something similar. My rental income has kind of collapsed and pursuing the CP strategy didn't work out that well for me. On the other hand, my collection value has gone up in price so I think the cost of each card is going up.

I think that usefull card will become more and more in demand since you kind of need them to win games. The whole rental strategy definitely has to be updated :-)

The rental market for GOOD, strong cards will now be way more competitive. Everyone want to win games now, so "meta" cards will have a way higher demand than before.

Exactly, the good powerful cards will be very much in demand. The level in the game will generally go up I believe, especially at higher levels where rewards are bigger. I think it's quite a positive evolution :-)

Card prices used to be based very much on card power, as most rentals were for end of season rewards.

Winning battles is now very important as it gives a higher rating, uses your ecr effectively and winstreaks give a nice bonus to the points you get for winning a ranked battle.

I expect rental prices to go up strong in the first days of the next season as people scramble to get back in the league they peaked in during the last season.

It just doesn’t work very well to earn gold league chests in silver league

Since at the beginning of a season you drop in leagues, wherever you are, you will have to fight to get back up. During the first days, the focus chests will be difficult to win but at the end of the season it will look a bit different.

True, I noticed I started with only 2k points per win, now it’s often 12k+

Especially the rating is important in the formula for the amount of points you get. More important than other factors, so winning is especially important at the start of the season.

Next season I will certainly rent some good summoners to go up in the ranking more quickly and I will focus more on winning then playing my focus splinters

I don't think I could say it better than @blockchainboyroy. His thoughts accurately reflect mine and what I perceive to be the current state of the game. It seems amazingly easy to max chests in bronze. I think bot farms will figure out how to make that work for them and we'll see rentals return (or even increase). I hope it doesn't get out of hand, but only time will tell. Splinterlands is an amazingly complex market. One of the things that attracted me to the game along with the gameplay. I think the rewamp of the reward system will make the demand for good cards grow steadily. Winning now matters and people need the best cards to get a high win rate. I believe that it will map out quite interestingly.

Interesting info.

Yeah the rentals are so bad this time. The past few seasons I have made an average of 2000+ DEC every day from rentals. Every day this season, though, it has been below 400. Not only are my cards renting out for much much lower, but many aren't even renting even when I have the lowest price on the market. I sure do hope this recovers next season!

But anyway, we don't know how this will play out yet. So I'm just watching for now. We'll see more after next season starts.

As for the rewards... they haven't been good for me yet. I finished in Diamond last season so I have diamond chests. Yet I have been stuck in Gold III so far, meaning I can barely earn any chests. What I have been getting has been low DEC bundles or potions... very frustrating...

Yes I believe it's pretty difficult to collect diamond chests when stuck in gold. Especially if you finished in diamond 3, it takes almost the whole season until you are back in diamond and get significative RP.

Hmmmm I have a long list of thoughts on this but I think it's still early days. Initially I thought it would be more difficult, but I think it was better because I could play more when I had more time and let the ECR recover when I have less time, as compared to having to complete the daily quest last time. Also I also am able to accumulate more chests on average compared to last time.

The only issue I have is everyone around me is getting crazy amounts of DEC but after 8 days and 42 Silver chests, the highest DEC from a single chest that I have gotten is 44 DEC. I mean I don't expect to get >5k DEC because the multiplier is lower for Silver, but my friends in Silver are able to get a few hundred consistently and one even got 5k DEC. Not sure when my luck will turn.

I got into champion 3 last season and I'm struggeling to collect chests because I'm in diamond now. Fortunately I was kind of lucky with the chests. One day I won only one single chest but there were 24K DEC in it lol.

Hmm, I must be on an "unlucky streak". People talk about legendary cards in gold chests and I haven't got one yet in champ chests. You talk about 24k and 5k DEC, and my best DEC reward was something like 3k.

Rewards aside... When I saw how low the rental market went during the first two-three days of the new season I got a little worried. But now it's back to a decent level, but certainly not higher than the season before the changes, EOS excluded.

Well I played about 1.5 hours and managed to get 1 single champion chest. My frustration lifted when I got 24K DEC from it lol.

I think rental market will be fundementally altered from now on. Good cards and summoners will be in demand I believe.

I think this season and possibly the next one will be mostly an adjusting period. After that, we will see exactly what the effects on the rental market will be.
