Merits for burning Gladiator Cards

In the minutes of the last Town Hall a lot of changes to Splinterlands were introduced. I would like to look at one change tht will be implemented on April 2nd 2024. Starting from that date, when burning Gladius cards you won't get DEC but MERIT. This has a rather big impact on the finances of the players I believe. Check out the video to learn more.

Yep, I wrote about it too I think last week, before I knew when it would be implemented from. Personally, I burned all my GF gladiator cards. Kept the regular ones to play with, they were higher in level many of them too.

I don't really understand what the objective is that they are pursuing with this change. Sometimes it seems that things change for the sake of change.

I think the main objective is to reduce the mint of DEC tokens and thereby fuel the flywheel.

Wow I didn't notice these changes! Thanks for sharing! I think for seasoned players like us, we are used to all this changes, but somehow I feel newer players might be confused with the ever changing formats in the game.

The changes are coming and I honestly don't know whether they will improve the game or the tokenomics...

While it doesn't affect me much, considering I didn't have the luck to get any Gold Foil Legendaries for my gladiator cards, it does leave quite a bitter taste in the mouth. Now that they can decide to just change the tokenomics for older cards, what trust is there left in the value of the cards we own? They could very well just decide the next day that all cards are not transferrable or sellable anymore.

I burned all my GF ones and didn't bother checking the others as the DEC value was too low. I think this was probably an unnecessary move by the team, I can't imagine it affects the flywheel that much as the league ranking prizes which are won just by bot players.

I think that this change is not good for new players in the game. Like you said team knows what they are doing but I doubt if this may bring reverse affect in splinterlands. Only time will tell.

I remember hearing about that and I think it does make sense. You spend merits to get the cards and if you have something you don't need, you should get back merits. About the DEC supply, I never really considered it but I remember hearing people burning the gold foil for DEC before
