Never underestimate Reward Cards

Today I saw a post on Torum were I was mentioned regarding Splinterlands rewards cards. As a fact, since I started to play the game a couple of years ago, I have kept all the rewards cards and upgraded them as much as possible.

In the history of the game, some of the most powerful cards were actually reward cards. I'm very happy that I kept these cards. I use them very often in the game and they have become pretty valuable over time.

Great talk about rewards cards. I am currently using my rewards cards to fund/buy CPU/NET/RAM in the Wax blockchain. I see plenty of write-ups about games on the wax blockchain and am working on getting a working account there. Really slow and lots of errors when you don't have enough CPU.

I have like 3000 WAX staked and it allows a nice experience. Without that, it can really be problematic to deal with the blockchain.

It’s part of what’s great about this game! Every card can be useful in some circumstances. The varied rules and such provide useful plays for nearly every card!

But you are absolutely right - rewards cards can often go a step beyond and have great utility in the game.

What’s your favorite rewards card from the current cards in print?

That's a very good question and as you say the different rulesets make most of the cards interesting. I actually use almost all the actual rewards cards in the game. If I had to chose among them, I would say I like best Djinn Oshannus. I find it very powerful.

Wow that's interesting. Unfortunately, it's all Gargoyas and Pelacors when I started playing the game a few months ago. Let's see how they will turn out in the future.

Make sure to keep your Pelacors. This cards is pretty useful, especially when developped completely. It's a very powerful tank.

I do think most of the common or rare cards now aren't really that great compared to previous seasons. However I do agree their price should go up if you give it time. Some of them only look useful after you level them up but I am not that confident of earning enough just through my rewards chest.

Hmmm, I disagree. :)

We can disagree but I only have lvl 1 versions to lvl 3 versions (if I got a gold card). At least I haven't really put in most of the cards there into my own lineup because they just don't seem that strong.

Well, at level 1 they aren't impressive, that's something we agree upon. But enough of the reward cards are pretty interesting at higher levels. I use them ALL the time in Diamond (or Gold when I start from there).

At first sight you might be right but after having some experience with these cards, there are some very powerful among the common and rare ones. For example I love Pelacor Conjurer. I have maxed it and it's a very powerful 2 mana tank!

That might be true for max leveled cards but it just doesn't stand out enough when they aren't leveled. Like Pelecor Mercenary, I prefer Flesh Golem over him for the most part because it would require lvl 5 or 6 to get self-heal.

I agree with you. I tend to look at things from a leveled perspective and there it makes a lot of sense to keep them and upgrade them.

Bad advice! :D I still have one reward card I'm interested in to max, and it's found rarely in the rewards lately, so the more people sell, the cheaper I'll get them if I decide to buy the rest.

Haha, I'm not the only one who is happy when people sell their cards too cheaply then :-)

I had this problem lately, @achim03. I try to keep all my reward cards as singles. Someone in the Splinterlands discord recommended to me, when I was beginning, and I had done so with some of those reward cards. However, after our other conversation the other day, I saw my Pelacor Mercenary, and I had like 17 cards of him. He was just sitting in there and I decided to combine only 14 into a level 3. What a difference of a card! I was not a big fan of that card in the past, but I can see now how it can become very powerful. It made a huge difference in my game! Thank you for that! However, the problem is that I don't get many of these cards in general to develop them. The majority are in singles and I had bough many just for level them up. Am I insane? Should I keep some of them as singles? Or it's much better to develop all of them in powerful ones? Thank you so much for these videos!

The Pelacor Mercenary is very powerful especially after level 6 because it comes with healing.

To answer your question, I would upgrade cards only if you play in a league where you can play upgraded cards and if you have the necessary summoners to play them. Since you upgraded some of your summoners, it makes a lot of sense to upgrade these cards as well. The better your cards, the better you will be in the game, and then the more rewards you will get... However, I wouldn't upgrade the cards above your summoner/league level because they wouldn't help your game play and maybe you could do something else with the single ones. Also I would recommend to only upgrade the cards, once you have the necessary number to get to the next level.

Great! I will do that! Since that time you said we shouldn't combine cards until the next level, I was following that rule. Let's hope I can get more of them! Fortunately, I have some of those rewards in gold foil, so I'm not touching the single ones. But others, I had even bought them to level them up! Thank you so much for you answer, @achim03!

The GF cards, I wouldn't combine them because they have naturally already a higher level as single cards :-)

I am also keeping all my reward cards and even buying some more. The new reward cards have been cheap most of the time - and some did drop a lot in price. At some point of time, they should go up. Question is more when, then if. Until then, I am really happy to get them and to collect more of them. And every now and then level them up to make them even stronger!

Thanks for this great video! Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
@andy-plays

The reward cards are definitely pretty cheap and I believe that they can get much more valuable down the road. If not at least they are great cards to use in the game.
