What's your long term strategy in Splinterlands?

long term strategy.jpg

At the moment, I'm reading a small book by Brian Tracy called „Eat that Frog“. I found the following quote in this book very interesting:

Long Term thinking improves your short time decision making

In the crypto world in general, I think that the long term perspective is often missing and people make their decisions on impulse or based on their emotional state of the moment. It really helps to define some targets and objectives and then act according to them.

How can we set long term goals for Splinterlands?

In order to define any kind of goals for the game, we need to know – a) how the game will evolve and – b) what part we will take part in this development

To know how the game will evolve, it's important to read the roadmap of the game and know what lies before us. I see things like the land expansion but also the SPS plans as very important. There will be the end of the SPS airdrop at a certain time and a decreasing distribution of SPS tokens.

According to the town hall meetings, the team will try to keep giving use cases to SPS and vouchers and they may play an important role in everything that lies ahead in the game.

Having a long term goal will pay off

When you look at all the things that the game has in store for us, I believe it makes sense to have a long term strategy in place. Of course, you will probably need to define it for yourself but I would like to share my strategy with you.

SPS will matter most

I believe with everything that is lined out, SPS will matter more and more in the game. You will need to stake SPS on players in order to earn SPS in return. This will probably become the main source of income in the future. At the same time, you will need SPS to get vouchers which will also play an important role.

In terms of tokenomics, so far about 15% of all the total supply has already been printed in 6 months. In the remaining 59 months only 85% of the tokens will be distributed. The biggest change will enter in place in 6 months, when the airdrop will stop.

My objective is to collect all the SPS that I get and stake it. I will also try to put the accent on the SPS income that doesn't come from the airdrop because the airdrop's importance will be decreasing the more assets are out. Especially after the general sale starts, I believe that our airdrop income will sensible drop. Once the airdrop will be totally over, the biggest amount of SPS will be distributed through staking and ranked battles.

By increasing my SPS stake, I will be able to increase my rewards from staking.

Improving my deck

In order to increase my income from ranked battles, I need to keep my deck competitive. To do that I want to develop my cards as much as possible and I want to get fully developed summoners. I have two already and when I'm in diamond league, I play almost only these two. If I can develop summoners of other splinters to top level, this will be very helpful.

Also I plan to invest into the legendary summoners once they come out in chaos legion. In the last town hall, they assured that there would be a series of legendary summoners. I will want to try to upgrade them to the max. The more summoners you have in the game, the more you can adapt to the rule sets and at a high level this makes a difference.

Even though I'm not 100% sure about that yet, I believe it will be more efficient to buy the cards that I need directly from the market rather than to buy packs.

Investing and taking profits

Since I want to buy cards at a later time, I have so far sold all my vouchers and I have placed the money in tokens that gain value over time like CTPSB and AWESOME. I also invested some money in diesel pools. This money is now working for me and when I need it, I will have more funds available.

Of course, I could buy some of the cards already now but in my opinion the card prices are not yet at the bottom and I want to buy the cards as cheaply as possible. That's why I'm waiting to buy cards.

A safeguard against your own emotions

I believe that by having a long time strategy, I'm less inclined to fomo in certain situations. I have a game plan. Every strategical decision I need to take in the game is guided by this plan. It's a kind of safeguard against my own emotions and it definitely makes it easier to take decisions.

If you had to define some long term goals in the game, which are they?

Hold long on SPS and Chaos Legion packs. Maybe take some profits in the second part of the year if the crypto market starts rising again.

It's a good idea to wait with opening packs because the longer you wait, the more chances you will have to get all these airdropped cards in the packs!

I'll invest in 5/10 packs then I'll buy more SPS while the price is super low, if we talk about "long term" on Splinterlands I think people should focus on SPS ignoring the fudders

Ignoring all the fomo and fud is a very good approach and try to follow your own strategy to evolve in the game.

I agree with you. I've been stacking up more SPS each week and staking it all. Once SPS takes a larger role in the game, the time to buy it cheap will be over. Great long term planning!

It's possible that the price of SPS will still go down but in tokenomics terms, it will never be that easy to stake SPS again. What we manage to build up now will help us in the future and compound over time.

I agree that staking SPS is a good long-term strategy as you let the earnings compound.
I also have found that the cards I bought and levelled up have served me better than the cards I have bought in packs--but then again I am a low volume buyer.
Good article!

I believe that it can be quite interesting to buy cards directly from the market. You can survey their price and buy when they are cheapest. When you buy packs, you get a lot of cards that you don't need and have to resell. I personaly prefer to buy cards rather than packs.

I agree with you the only thing that saves me from bad decisions is my long-term goals and how seriously I take them.
Now that my better half is involved I have someone to keep me in check lol.
My Splinterlands long-term strategy is to level up two summoners and then level up my monsters in those splinters.
I notice I lose against cards that have a higher level than mine. We can pick the same cards but they will win because theirs are leveled up a bit.

Leveling up one summoner and one splinter at a time is definitely a great strategy that I'm still applying now. It takes time but it works :-)

I agree as this is the only logical way to grow in the game.

Since I am fairly new to the game my long term goal is to build up a good lvl 2 deck. I have built up SPS enough so that it will purchase 1 card pack per week. This will keep my deck growing along with chest during the season. I may purchase some summoners up to Silver max depending on pricing. Generally thinking epic and Legendary cards will dip after general sale begins. Getting a good selection of these should pay off in the long run.

It's a tough job to build your deck to level 2 but it's probably the best move you can make. I would maybe suggest to rather buy the cards from the market rather than to buy packs. But that's up to you :-)

I am buying most of my cards from the market but also buying 10 packs to have a small percent chance at the airdrops. My general buy point is 125 CP/$ to fill any available card up to max level 2(3221). Selected have to have cards will be bought between 60 and 125 CP/$.
Gold Foil Epics under $20 and GF Legendaries under $100. Filling 40K CP and possible 70K CP for Silver 1 league. Summoners under $3 to carry them higher.

I see you have a very well set strategy :-). That's great!

Long term, I just plan on building my deck, rentals and stacking that SPS. Either way, I don't plan on leaving anytime soon so I can wait till later to take profits.

That's the best strategy to take in my opinion. The quality of your deck and the amount of SPS stake will determine your future income from the game.

Similar to you, my long term goal is to accumulate more SPS and cards too. Also to complete daily quests consistently and hopefully get some good cards over the long term.

It's maybe doesn't look like the most exciting plan but it's in my opinion the most effective one. One step at a time to get further in the game.

SPS is the main objective and it has long term implications. I had to sell some unfortunately, but still I have a nice stake and keep growing it. I have an objective that might or might not happen regarding my deck. Anyway, I'll focus on CL a lot, which I didn't do as determined with the previous sets. Land is a major long term element that will change the game landscape. Being a tract owner, I'm pretty well positioned here.

Oh that must give you nice SPS airdrops :-). I bought only 4 plots of land and thought prices would drop even more. That was without counting on SPS lol.

Yes. I just checked, it's more than my collection. And there's the title and the totems too that contribute significantly to the airdrop points.

I agree having a long term plan in place helps reduce the emotional decisions. I believe the land expansion will play a major role in the future of Splinterlands along with SPS and Vouchers.

Having a long term plan prevents me from listening too much to the emotions of the moment. I believe I make better decisions like that.

You are doing a good job by having the strategy set up. Also, I like that you are taking profits on the way.

This game was for me the jackpot of last year and I think it will bring some more value the following months.

Splinterlands was definitely a very nice thing to happen to us. I managed to pass from 5K to 20K of hive power mainly thanks to it during the last year. Hopefully it will go on like that in 2022 :-).

Thanks for stopping by!
